Fake EDIT: Hmm, lot of Jpeg artefacts... might just re-upload these later.

So i just started playing again today.

Have not played since launch really.

I have no idea whats happening. I'm only lvl 9 and I found out about the temporal lock boxes. So i rushed and spent dilitium i had some how obtained on 11 of them. Only to be told i now need to spend real money on zen to get keys to open them?

Shady tactic.

Anyway can someone go over everything with me.

What's this dilithium / lobi stuff? Any major changes that I should know about?

Heh, so...

Lockboxes: awarded as loot, can't be opened without a Master Key. Don't spend Dilithium on them, as you can buy them for pennies from the Exchange.

Master Keys: can be bought for 125 Zen or about 1.2m to 1.5m Energy Credits on the Exchange. Again, you can just save up Energy Credits for them instead of spending real money if you don't want to get the old credit card out.

Lobi: is granted with the open of every lockbox with a master key. There is a store on Drozona Station (in Eta Eridani sector block) which grants rare items, ships and costume unlocks in exchange for them. Most items can be sold and bought on the Exchange with Energy Credits if you really want.

Can I get an invite to the GAF fleet? Erik@SpudBud

Done.

Today was the day that most people got their Breen Chel Warship by participating daily since the start of Q's Winter Wonderland winter event, if you won that race everytime, you got enough Q autographs to win this new ship.

Here are some pics of my ship, the U.S.S. Isis (get it...ice... Breen?)

The Breen invasion of Earth...part 2!

The Energy Dissapator weapon is a destructible projectile that does not fully render a ship powerless but does it on a chance and disables subsystems... I figured a weapon like from the show would be overpowered so they had to nerf it like this, oh well.

There's a costume sale until the 13th, so if you have some spare Zen lying around, each costume is 440 after the discount. A pity they didn't include the costume slots as part of the sale, but I suppose 250 for two account-wide slots isn't terrible.

Man, I played too many hours over the past days and went up 10 levels pretty easily. What is there to do for the fleet? Are there missions or something that I can do to help? Or is better to do all that stuff once you get to 50? I'm lvl.25

Also unrelated, I have like 5 passengers. Are they useful or can I threw them out the airlock?

You can earn fleet marks or Dilithium to contribute to fleet projects if you like?

Passengers (i.e. Colonists) can be used in some DOFF assignments. Generally you'll get about 100 Dilithium per colonist you put in.

Cool, thanks.

Also, Ensign Pojn is ugly as sin. (nice Foundry level btw).

If I haven't done any of the featured episodes, how long would it take me to finish all of them? I would like to try to finish all of them before the replay period is up.

Also I just came back to the game after almost a year. I've forgotten completely how to play. Can any experienced players here please offer some hotkey help or other helpful advice? I'm just feeling completely lost in both space and ground combat.

If you're just doing them all on one character, you may still have time. Depending on how well you do, each individual mission can usually be finished in around half an hour, with some perhaps taking up to an hour. You can try doing just one featured episode a day so you don't feel burnt out.

As far as combat, you might have to be a bit more specific. With space combat, the main thing you want to remember is that you'll want to pick a specific energy type and stick with it, because the energy-specific consoles will always provide a greater bonus than the general weapon bonus consoles. Assuming you already have them, keep Brace For Impact and Evasive Maneuvers as your most easy to hit hotkeys. I'm not so hot with ground combat so I couldn't really give much advice for that.

If you're not already in another fleet, give us your username here and we can invite you to GAFleet.

Ah thanks so much for the info. Pretty much im looking for some hotkey suggestions and rotations for a cruiser. So far all Ive heard is to bind space bar to fire weapons.

At some point in the past I knew how to play because I got to rear admiral. But now I barely remember how to move.

Also im in the guild already. My character's name is Jommi.

Some people actually micromanage their weapons, but I just set them all to auto-fire. Right click the weapons on your HUD and they'll become outlined in green. Once set to auto-fire, you still need to hit space or click one of the weapons to fire on your target, but they'll keep on firing as long as the target is within their arc until the target or you are destroyed, or you click somewhere off the target. Naturally, you have to be careful with that in situations where you just want to beat something down to near death, but need to time the kill with other things, such as in the Infected STF.

For most cruisers, you're going to have to rely on broadside damage rather than actually pointing your ship at anything, so you're going to want mostly beam arrays. An Excelsior Retrofit is maneuverable enough to get away with two dual beam banks up front. From what I've read, you'll also want to limit the amount of arrays you have firing at once, as once you have more than 6 firing simultaneously (which you can easily do if you equip 8 on a cruiser and do a broadside) your DPS goes down due to power drain. Usually you can just throw a fore and aft torpedo launcher of some type on, and rotate your ship just slightly to fire one of them, then back so all of your beams are back on target.

In addendum to my previous post about my Vesta class ship, I decided to splurge on the whole 3 piece set for the Vesta class ships, and have the whole experimental space set with all sorts of neat flashy sciencey abilities.

Ohhh...pretty

Thar she is.. my brand new Caitian Carrier - The U.S.S. PANGAEA

I have been dragging my feet for awhile saying that I was going to purchase the Caitian Carrier but never have since it first came out... I finally committed for real cuz I have had a taste of Carrier like abilities via the Vesta ships. This is a true Carrier, that can launch two Hangar Bays worth of ships... it's fucking huge in size, weight, girth, and slow. You think the Odyssey is slow? Get outta here! But this thing is simply beautiful... it catches the light so well... so many different space sets make this thing gleen in different ways. I am partial to the default look of the ship, acccented by the Aegis accents.

It takes time to learn to get used to the subtleties of using a science ship, a slow turning ship, a non firepower focused ship. It is not for everyone but luckily I have been experimenting with it before I thought I could take this on.

You have to ease into this kind of ship, instead of jumping from an Escort to this.

So I started playing again - logged into my only character only for it to spend 10 minutes going through quest rewards and stuff. Then I realised I'd completely forgotten how to play!

So I've started a new character - already made it to Lieutenant Commander :)

Let us know if you need an invite to the fleet for your new character.

And then $25 to get the good versions, no doubt.

Welp, here she is... my long awaited acquisition of a Jem'Hadar vessel... the Heavy Dreadnought Carrier, I have dubbed "The Order of Things".

Time to test this bad boy out...

I've also had a chance to upgrade all my Jem'Hadar gear, the ground set and the space set to MKXII versions. Good times, I've waited for this moment for 3 years!

Anyone play the 3rd anniversary feature episode yet? I really want to but have been incapacitated with a fucking tooth infection. People are saying its the best story mission in the game, and of course Denise Crosby's voice work is a bonus.

Also, wonder whether this teaser means playable Romulan faction coming soon?http://sto.perfectworld.com/sto_may2013

Mouse-over the Romulan text...

Yeah I've done the mission on my Klingon and Fed characters. The mission is pretty short but I enjoyed it. I found Tasha Yar annoying but I never liked the character in TNG.

Felt like Star Trek to me, unlike so many of the other Featured Eps

I never got the Tasha love myself but it's nice to hear real people from the show lending their talent to the games once and awhile

The new Ambassador ship is really a meh prize compared to the Odyssey and Bortas from last year imo

It would be good for new comers to get this, but not those who have had all sorts of fancy new gadget ships at Vice Admiral for a long time

I've just started playing this again after about a year off and hit level 50 yesterday. Any chance of an invite to the fleet?

What's a good site for hosting these days? Photobucket keeps shrinking everything or introducing horrendous artifacting. Anyway, here's a random shot I took in orbit of New Romulus.

On another subject, we have been getting many new fleet members lately (in great part due to Saultenian, who is as yet not a poster here, but hopefully shall be so in the future), so I thought it would be helpful to type up a promotion schedule so we can stick to it going forward. Obviously since fleet provisions require provisioning projects and are a scarce resource, newly joined members will not have access to them until their first promotion, to avoid the potential for fleet leeches who join only to get what they can and leave. Promotions will be based on combined (starbase and embassy) lifetime fleet credits as displayed in the fleet leaderboard.

0-49,999 fleet credits = Commander (new members, no privileges)
50,000-99,999 fleet credits = Captain (provisioned stores and invite powers become available)
100,000-199,999 fleet credits = Commodore (no new privileges)
200,000-499,999 fleet credits = Rear Admiral (can set fleet MotD, officer chat)
500,000 and up fleet credits = Vice Admiral (can promote and demote lower levels)
Admiral rank reserved for decision by Admiral of the Fleet
Admiral of the Fleet = There can be only one, and at the moment it's Walshicus.

There are of course some members who may fall outside of these guidelines. They were probably grandfathered in by virtue of being members long before these guidelines were decided upon.

I've finally acquired two major uprades to my weapon arsenal

I have the entire Adapted Omega weapon set (cutting beam+omega torp+assim console) and 2/3rds of the Romulan Singularity set (zero point console+hyper plasma torp). I have been experimenting with these sets all day trying to come up with the most deadliest things.

Tonight I experimented with getting rid of all my energy weapons and go nothing but pure kinetic damage... all torpedoes (omega torp, hyper plasma torp, plasma torp, hargh'peng torp, breen cluster torp, plasma torp), and the cutting beam (which is kinetic damage based anyways). It's very interesting to say the least.

I am doing this all on my Fleet Defiant Retrofit, with all plasma torp tac consoles from very rare mk xi, to rare mk xi.

Plus all my other reputation abilities were geared towards offense, I am cleaning house in ways I never coulda imagined. I think I saw Borg cubes trying to get away from me cuz it was afraid lol

The soon-to-be-released Andorian-designed ship. Based on what's been hinted at by developers, I suspect those are port and starboard dual beam banks or something on the side of the hull. Until now, ships have only had fore and aft weapon slots...
