Star Wars Galaxies (So how dead is it)

I read up on all the crazy changes they did to the game recently. From what I gather they totally changed the game play. Now its like an mmo-fps? I know manabyte plays it I was wondering how it turned out. I loved neocron in its day. And im getting bored of World of Raidcraft.

Any impressions?

My brother was this game's biggest whore. It was like a plague and I'm glad he finally quit. After the new revamp he lost all will to play. He was one of those people who mastered like all of the professions and became one of the few Jedis in the server he was even a council member. Anyway, now he's using his Star Wars whore power elsewhere, currently KotOR 2.

I don't know, he keeps saying this annoying line "I paid for an RPG, not a FPS" whatever that means. He keeps whining on TS that he didn't get all that he deserved and that his Jedi got fucked over or something. I think it's moreso just the problem of people who have been playing for a long time.

I just recently played it again since I still have a subscription. I've only played a little but it seems like they stripped it down. Removed the professions. Basically it seemed like a shell of its former self. I liked the old star wars better too bad I never really had too much time to play.

I have some friends who played back when it first came out, but quit a long time ago, bascially because the game took so long to deliver some of the things they said would be in from the start.

Basically, it seems like they have screwed over their core audience several times through out the lifespan of the game with a lot of the changes they've made. The new ones are suppose to make the game more accessible and action oriented, plus it's become a lot easier to become a Jedi now then it was before.

They also waited until everyone bought the new expansion to reveal the huge revamp. And they even said they've been working on it for a year. That's pretty damn bad.

It seems like they said "Hey, thanks for subscribing for years. We're now going to make the game PLAYABLE."

Pretty much. I understand why the people who had performed the prodigious feat of cognitive dissonance required to convince themselves SWG was actually good would be upset by the changes, but I played the new version for an hour and got my character further than I had playing the original for four days. It's still rough, but it's far more user friendly and does feel more like Star Wars and less like a spreadsheet with a wookiee-based GUI.

Anyone who has spend years and effort in creating a god-like character (Jedi) that very few people can achieve it´s going to be pissed about the new way, it´s just the natural order of things (it would happen the same with any aspect of life).

I tried the trial with the new changes (its totally free and doesn't require a CC to try it) having never played SWG before and found it very very repetive. The actiony combat is an interesting idea, but it feels like it was shoehorned into an engine that wasn't designed around it, so it feels really really wierd.
