What was your experience with Star Wars Galaxies?

pre combat upgrade it's the greatest mmo ever. We had entire player cities with cantinas, harvesting, houses etc. could change profession at anytime, the entire economy was players running businesses

Game was a mess from the start, but it was an enjoyable mess, a "slow life" game modeled after games like Ultima Online. Having Jedi at all was an original sin to begin with and the CU fucked over everyone.
They desperately tried to copy WoW's style down to the colorful icons and class roles, it did not work.

Me and everyone I know said fuck it and bought World of Warcraft.

I worked so fucking hard to get a Jedi when the game released. Finally unlocked it by grinding professions - used holocons that would tell you your first 3 (I think, it's been awhile) and then you had to just grind out the 4th.

I unlocked Jedi and realized pretty soon afterward that the class was lame and definitely wasn't worth the grind.

Then I looked on ebay and saw that Jedi accounts were going for $1500 each, so I sold my account ASAP.

No regrets doing it, either.

I played it, it was very cool and basically an online life simulator in the Star Wars universe with crazy ambition. I think I was a pistoleer.

Things need to be put into context, it was heavily flawed. But I would rather play a game like SWG or UO over a long period of time than WOW.

Now I regret not playing this.

A lot of time hanging out buffing adventurers in the cantinas as my male Mon Calamari. Living off of tips from the ones who went out to do the killing, while I lived a quiet life as an entertainer having fun jamming to music...

I never got super serious into the game, but I had fun doing that stuff...while it ran at like 10 frames per second because it ran so poorly in general.

It didn't pull me away from Final Fantasy XI completely, but it was the only other MMORPG I played that I thought had so much potential. People were making their own cities, with their own homes on the actual worlds. It was so cool. There were no Jedis running around because it was such a difficult task to achieve, which is what becoming a Jedi SHOULD BE.

Pre CU it was fun as hell. I played with Goonsquad on Lowca so there was always something to do, usually some sort of emergent "fun" or random chaos.

I played it on launch for maybe 3 months before dropping it. I was trying to find a game to replace Ultima Online at the time and thought SWG would do it because Raph Koster was the lead designer on UO but it just wasn't it.

I was more of a FF11 and WoW guy (with a brief stint in EQ1). But the only thing I heard was from everyone who played SW Galaxies that the game was better before everyone was able to get the Jedi job.

I played it at launch when it was a total mess. I level architect and made several of the first guild houses on the server I was on. I traded one guy a guild house for the best combat gear & droid that were available at the time and could solo everything.

There was also a way to have someone sign over their allotment of game world land over to you so I had like hundreds of ground harvesters gathering resources. It was cheaper to let them degrade and break than to repair them, so it was kind of hilarious to see miles of ground pounders pluming smoke and fire as far as could render.

Sometimes you would log in and on the character screen your character would be bald & naked. It was quite the sight. After running out of things to do a couple weeks in, I sold my account for $400 and bought a new video card lol

Pre CU it was the best star wars simulator, combat sucked but crafting and socializing was great. My Mon Calamari Blacksmith/Rifleman had a weaponsmith shop on Tatooine, I made the best rifles on the server ! Had "contracts" with other prospector players who had access to the best ore/minerals, which would increase the final production quality.
I think it was great. And then there was jedi nonsense and they tried to make it a completely different game. Sad.
