'Star Wars': Jon Favreau's TV Series Details Revealed

Could this mean Pedro Pascal(Oberyn Martell from A Game of Thrones) is playing as Boba Fett?

Disney forthcoming streaming service won't launch until late 2019, but details surrounding one of its most highly anticipated TV series have emerged.

Jon Favreau, who is set to write and executive produce an original, live-action scripted Star Wars TV series, on Wednesday revealed that his new show will be called The Mandalorian.

"After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic," Favreau shared in a post on his Instagram account.

Disney is developing multiple live-action Star Wars TV series for its upcoming streaming service, which is designed to rival Netflix. The platform will be the exclusive home for Marvel feature films and original series as well as Pixar and other Lucasfilm properties. So far, only Favreau's involvement in one of the Star Wars TV series has been revealed. Wednesday's announcement offers a closer look at just where the new Star Wars TV series fits in with the franchise.

For his part, Favreau is no stranger to the Star Wars universe. The actor-director played roles in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

not too keen on the synopsis....but I do like Jon Favreau.

I'd totally welcome Thrawn in this series. He is the most nuanced villain in SW...as far as I can see (I don't follow the comics, novels, and shows, I just watched bits and pieces of Rebels and was pleasantly surprised by Thrawn)

While it doesn't sound bad based on that synopsis

Late 2019. So this is going to start right around the same time episode 9 hits?

God it's going to be non stop star wars for an entire year

I like Pedro Pascal, but he should nope.gif on this if he has any sense because anything that bridges the OT to the Abrams/Johnson catastrophy is just a prequel to mediocrity. There's gotta be a better vehicle for his talents (post Narcos presumably) than adverts to sell landfill surely?

giving it the benefit of a doubt. i'm down for a bingeable, high budget star wars show, and favreau attached dampens any skepticism.

So Boba Fett has been ruled out. Suit looks good though.

. It will tell the story of a new hero who will rise within the Star Wars universe. Lucasfilm also released the first official still from production, which can be found below.

Favreau, who will serve as the executive producer on the project, will write the series. Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) will direct the first episode, while additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).

Filoni, along with Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson, will also serve as producers on the series alongside Favreau, and Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer.

Casting for the series has not yet been revealed, however, it’s thought that actor Pedro Pascal may be up for a lead role in the series. Now that production is underway, perhaps official casting news can’t be too far off.

The Mandalorian will arrive on the Disney streaming service sometime in 2019.

It will be a woman lead and if you dont like it you are an incel russian bot

My guess is the Mandalorian will wear a helmet all season, almost never speak and use a voice altering thing and then the season ending twist will be its Emilia Clarkes daughter and the she got the suit from here

jesus fucking christ they can't think of a single new thing. ofc it's an "entirely new character" that still wears the Boba Fett armor.

Premise sounds interesting enough. I'll definitely give it a chance but it's hard to get really excited for anything Star Wars related at the moment.

Fan rumors pointed out that was Boba Fett from Solo.

... ho hum. Looks like Boba Fett but isn't.... great. Whoever is making these dick splash decisions should get a new career. Disney can literally do anything, they've got a massive fanbase and look at how they've screwed up so far.

Still, it would be nice if it was actually good. Favreau is our last hope.

That looks great. I hope we get a trailer before this year ends.
