Star Wars: Rogue One Story Trailer

I always wondered if that was actually supposed to be the Force (outside of being able to perfectly time his movements I mean) or if it was just "fuck it, I'm like 60% robot".

I don't see him risking his dominant hand that way. He doesn't get scratched anyway.

Wow, honestly surprised at how many people are saying this looks better than TFA. I mean, it does but I thought everyone was in a romantic relationship with that movie...hated it. Rogue One on the other hand looks super good, and I'm really excited to see the villains whoop some ass.

It's the Force.

However, if you go by the old EU, it's because of the special properties of The Glove of Darth Vader, which was built so sturdily that it survived the Death Star II explosion, was sucked into a wormhole, and was later retrieved by a crazy mutant pretending to be Palpatine's three-eyed secret clone son based on what he was told by a fake Prophet of the Dark Side.

I just have no hype for this. There's nothing really wrong with the trailer (the music is probably overlt grim for a trailer), it's just doing absolutely nothing for me that's grabbing my interest.
I'll go see it on release, I just wish I could be excited for this. As much as I am a fan of Star Wars, I think my interest is only in the OT and its characters/stories. TFA gave new characters that I like, but outside of the main saga, i can't muster a single giveafuck.

To rebel.

From a visual standpoint,it just looks a lot better. That shot at the beginning with the city and Imperial vehicles flying overhead look more lively than any of the settlements seen in TFA.

Reading the Tarkin book, the Geonosians are extinct.
I remember that, but they took part in the initial phases of construction on the Death Star. They might get at least a mention (assuming it needs to be brought up, maybe in a briefing for Jyn or something).

That was Vader against a powerful opponent.

Against cannon fodder?

This is closer to what you can expect. (Rebels season 2 spoilers)

And that's against two lightsaber users. If Kanan and Ezra were non-force wielders using iron pipes as weapons they'd be chopped liver in that scene. So normal rebel foot soldiers would stand no chance. I still find it very doubtful they would have him kill off the entire Rogue One cast though.

Oh god my hype levels can barely be contained.

I still have slight concerns they'll overdo Vader, but I think he can be a little more active than the OT and still feel like Vader.

EDIT: Okay I just checked out those Rebels clips, I hadn;t got that far in the series, I could be okay with Vader being like that. Especially the sone with Ezera. I think I just hate the comic version of Vader.

I'm losing faith in this movie, I hope I'm wrong. The visuals are stunning, but as a trailer it doesn't give me the same "wow" that TFA did.

I'm basically gonna expect this kinda ass-handing by Vader.

(except the whole Zack Snyder flippy shit of course)

Though, as other mentioned, I would still very much like him to be dented in some way at least.

You can tell this is a show designed for "All ages"

Cause in reality Vader would have killed the living shit out of everyone there
What killd it is that he just tosses one of them away after countering an attack.

What should've happened is that Kanan would be straight up decapitated.

I actually have that book.

That was not a good book.

lol

Vader was actually going easy on the Rebels cast; he wanted them to run so he could follow them to their fleet.

Then he showed up in his TIE Advanced and single-handedly crushed them.

So basically, imagine that scene except he kills everyone. I'm not sure if we'll get a scene like that in Rogue One, but I can easily imagine it.

He was just playing with them that entire skirmish. The real goal was to allow them to escape on the Imperial shuttle back to their fleet, as it had a tracking device implanted on it. He later decimates their forces in his TIE Advanced.

Outside of the dialogue, I think this looks solid. Obviously my expectations from blockbusters these days are at rock bottom, but this could end up being a fun film. The humor they tried to inject isn't working for me though.

A lot of it seems like it will work better in context rather than in brief clips for a trailer.

Yeah I know but I dunno, I just felt like there would've been some non-essential personnel in his eyes that would've been done away with.

Ok this makes more sense. Because I was like, no way in hell Vader would just let them off the hook like that, he woulda just wrecked them.

I don't like how Vader was retconned into spacegod. In ANH he just came across as a robothug walking around banging people up, we never got a sense that he was superpowered in the old movies at all and I don't think that was ever the intention at the time

Speaking of Rebels, have they spoken at all what the long-term plans are for that series? Specifically, how far in the timeline they want it to go? Are we eventually going to get to a point where the series starts getting close to this and we start getting direct connections? Or is it supposed to be contained to a specific window in the gap between trilogies?

ANH Vader and ESB Vader are very different portrayals. It's kinda weird going from ANH's cocky asshole to ESB's intimidating manipulator.

Even their costumes got a dramatic change. ANH Vader looks like a battered ostentatious antique, fitting his status as a relic of the old wars. ESB Vader looks shiny and elegant.

You have correctly identified the joke

lol.

I was sitting here, puzzling over the thought process.

"Hey, that guy made a joke by deploying a well-timed reference to something with which everyone in this thread is familiar. I think I should post a gif of it just in case."

Right but we only ever got the sense that he was a weirdo in a robot suit who had some magic powers. He never came across as invincible or as a super powerful x-man or anything.

If he shows up and comes off like this I'll just roll my eyes. That's not how he was at all in the original trilogy. He never did that once. He just walked around the rebel base on hoth with his storm troopers. He didn't blink all over killing everyone. He didn't really do anything and he couldn't stop the MF from escaping.

They basically got lucky. I don't think it would have mattered to Vader if he had succeeded in decapitating Ezra with his own saber or killed Sabine with the deflected bolts.

I don't expect them to go too far; there has to be at least some transition period between the Rebel Alliance shown in the series and that seen in Rogue One/A New Hope.

Loving the look of this! Some of the dialogue does sound a bit awkward, but I often find that the way they cut dialogue for trailers causes that effect, so I'm not too worried about it.

Based on the Celebration panel, they say we will begin seeing more of the Alliance that we know of from the movies so I'd expect some crossover potentially with Rogue One at least. Don't really recall what their endgame plans are though.

"We would be honored if you would join us."

I agree Darth Vader shouldn't be blinking all over the place like an anime villain, but he absolutely should walk all over anyone who's not a Jedi.
