Star Wars: The Clone Wars (and Rebels!) Appreciation Thread

Watched the first 2 Rebels episodes. Enjoyed it, somehow feels more SW-ish than CW, but damn did the Wookies look crappy compared to the ones in Clone Wars lol.

Overall I'm okay with the animation style but Ezra looks out of place, especially his ugly tentacle hair.
Also not really a fan of Zeb. Cheap wookie wannabe

I know it's a popular opinion, but Ezra = Aladdin. They are far too similar in character design, all the way down to their street rat background. I think Ezra even refers to himself as a street rat specifically, or maybe someone else does, but I'm pretty sure it was mentioned on the show.

I'm about 8 episodes in, and this is coming straight off of Clone Wars. So far I think it's just ok. It's fun, but the art style sucks and it's a shame how kiddy they decided to go with it. Hopefully things get a bit more real just like CW did in its later seasons. I'm gonna stick with it though, even if just for the guest appearances of familiar characters. I don't think I'll like it as much as I enjoyed CW though. I mean, CW actually made me retroactively appreciate episodes 2 and 3 more. That's really saying something.

And what's up with Ezra and Zeb constantly, and I do mean constantly, punching, pushing, and bumping each other? It's kinda weird. Like how Eddie Brock and Peter Parker always called each other "bro" in the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. Just kind of weird directorial choices that take me out of the moment.

I tried to get into Clone Wars but I just don't like the troopers. The episode with the traitor trooper was one of the last episodes I watched. The way they have him, then he escapes, then they have him and he escapes again just annoyed me. The show is obviously made for a younger Saturday morning audience.

I do want to give Rebels a shot, I have Netflix and amazon prime...but could not find it on either last time I looked.

I don't believe Rebels is streaming anywhere yet. And if you thought CW was skewed for a younger audience, then expect Rebels to be targeted at toddlers. Not necessarily anything wrong with that, but I feel like there's no tension and nothing is at stake. Clearly they're trying to stick it to the Empire, but as of episode 7, everything is still fun and games. Hopefully they'll ramp up the drama in the coming episodes or in season 2.

Skip the next 2 stupid Naboo Episodes and watch the Ryloth Arc.

If you still don't like it then I don't know... the Clones were the best part of the show. The clones, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka :p

And I'm not really sure who their target audience was. There's often something kid friendly and the next minute it gets all political and then there's torture, stabbings and beheadings.

Sounds good, I'll give it another shot.

Did I miss something or got Ahsoka really suddenly her second Lightsaber and her less revealing outfit offscreen in the heroes on both sides episode? Or did Netflix fuck something up?
Edit: And Ono is back?!? He died in the second season. Something is definitly wrong.

The show wasn't created in chronological order. It jumps around sometimes, and you sometimes just kind of have to figure out vaguely when stuff takes place.

Yes, it's dumb.

Her model (and extra lightsaber) change happen off-screen due to a sudden budget increase.

Also, you're watching the show in release order. The show is chronologically out of order, which is why I always recommend people to watch it in story order. http://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-the-clone-wars-chronological-episodeorder?repeat=w3tc

Yeah, but it doesnt fit even then. Ahsoka didnt used a second light saber before Ono died. It just doesnt fit.

Yeah the release order is really stupid and confusing. I knew about it and thought it wouldn't be so bad. Also didn't want to switch Blu-Rays all the time. Well it was bad.

So in Season 1 Ziro escapes, in Season 2 he is still in prison, in Season 3 he is still on run and the Jedi are hunting him....

what?

Ahsoka's outfit change and switch to a dual wield indicates the time skip. There is a year between Hunt for Ziro and Heroes on Both Sides.

Yea, it makes no sense.

I remember when clone wars started, I said to myself: "great, we're going to find out how Anakin gets his eye scar. In clone wars, in one episode he doesn't the next episode he does.

WTF! That's a pretty important little detail to gloss over.

I didnt noticed this until now... And it kinda kills my joy because its way more fun to see in the right order.

why did they do this?

Edit: At least its right chronological from now on...

You're asking this about a franchise in which the middle chapter was written first?

In all seriousness, the stories were mostly Lucas' ideas so the idea that he would want to double back and tell stories out of order isn't all that surprising. But now that you are past the time skip, that will largely end and everything happens chronologically from here on out.

So I started the Nightsisters arc and am currently at the episode where Savage gets his Sith training.
I really loved how the one scene where Doku thaught him how to levitate objects it mirrors the scene on Dagobah where Yoda tries to teach Luke how to levitate the X-Wing, just in the dark side way through pain, anger and hatred.

Man, this show is so good.

Edit: The Mortis Arc. Wow.

Edit 2: ehhhh...
The son... He looks like the Sith Inquisitor... Coincident or done on purpose?which would shed a new light on the Snoke = Inquisitor theory

The more I have watched the Clone Wars the more disappointed I am from Rebels. Where is Darth Vader?

It's expensive to get James Earl Jones and you can't have Vader constantly on the show or else he has to lose so that the heroes can survive due to plot armor. It would undermine his character.

He's only going to be there for big events, like Tarkin.

Vader being around all the time isn't that reasonable, because he pretty much has to win. The more he's around the more dumb the reasons for the characters surviving have to be.

The reason Rebels is disappointing compared to Clone Wars is because by and large the Rebels characters are garbage and the returning Clone Wars characters are thus the most interesting...but simultaneously the least focused on. They've done little to fix that in ~30 episodes. Also the show is primarily episodic instead of multi-episode arcs...which means nothing gets a chance to develop.

So I've been going through Clone Wars

Its like it gives a reason for the prequels to exist. So good.

Shame Rebels is not.

Totally agree. The only reason I'm watching Rebels is for Ahsoka and Vader. The new crew is alright but not a fan of Ezra or Kanan. I only really like Sabine cuz she's a mini mandalorian.

Shit there
Chewie

Poor guy seems to be in trouble all the time

Man, and finally some movie themed music. Hope that stays.

I must be the only one who watched all the clone wars and overall didn't like it too much at all except for some stellar episodes.

Dissed Rebels when it came out but towards the end of season 1 and now in season 2, everything seems to have ramped up, story, visuals, stakes. It's so good, and I'm really enjoying and looking forward to every episode. Definitely feels more mature to me as well. Reminds me how much I love star wars.

I started TCW not too long ago and I'm at the beginning of S5. Fave episode so far has been "Bounty Hunters."

Main question: do they explain why the
one lightsaber that the Deathwatch leader has is the power of the void or some shit
?

It doesn't have a special power, it's just a very old design

Relatively rare/unique crystal gained from Mandalorians ransacking an ancient jedi temple. Basically it's black for the same reason, the lightersabers are red, purple etc.

Just got to season 3, and I love it. Well, most of it. It's obviously a lot better than the prequels but the connection is still there like a splinter in the eye. I really like the portrayal of Anakin but he's also extremely different from how Hayden played him. It's jarring. Ahsoka is great though, so cute haha. And Obiwan's vo is amazing!

I think that's it. Though the real reason is it just looks cool.

I see I see. Bothers me a bit that they emphasize that Sith carry red sabers when it doesn't actually change anything. Although since the crystals are found via special trial...I dunno. Force lore seems weird.

Just finished TCW. Fucking radical (although like I said, Force lore).

The old lore was Sith with their perversion of the force did not use natural crystals but synthetic ones which is why they are red.

I gotcha. I never delved into any of the EU stuff before now. When I was a young'n, I recall reading the Young Apprentice books, which followed Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. Those were aight.

I love the visuals and themes of the Krell-Arc.

What an asshole the guy is.

But this really wants me to have a Star Wars movie set in the Clone Wars with some kind of Apocalypse Now theme.
