Star Wars: The Clone Wars (and Rebels!) Appreciation Thread

From what I remember, the Vong story was supposed to be something influenced by The X-Files, like the Vong showed up in the Outer Rim and abducted someone.

Embo was the best character introduced in the show. Hoping he shows up in Rebels for the hell of it.

Also what was everyone's fave Clone Wars episode? Even though Season 1 was weak Lair of Grievous has always been my fave.

The second season for Rebels has been great so far.

I'm really glad that Rex has come back, and the showdown between the AT-TE and the two remaining AT-AT's was epic. Vader is really well portrayed in this show as well, I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with him and Ahsoka but there's only one way it can end. :(

Any episodes that focused on the clones were my favorite. It was great to get that insight and the prequels would have been a lot more powerful if they could have included some of that side (even if it was just one clone character).

I think it's the last episode of the Mandalore arc in Season 5 for me. Shocking and character-devastating for Obi-wan, especially if you have been watching the series (or at least the Mandalore-centric episodes up to that point). Plus there's one of the best lightsaber fights in the series at the end. I would go deeper into the reasons but I don't want to leave spoilers for those who haven't seen it.

Those who have know exactly what I'm talking about and why the episode is so damn good. Some absolutely beautiful cinematography as well. The shot where Obi-Wan is just looking at the battle unfolding really sticks in my mind.

That Devastating twist: WARNING: HUGE SERIES LONG SPOILERS

Okay, so I talked some shit Rebels earlier in this thread but I just watched the first 40 minute episode of Season 2 and holy damn. I guess you guys aren't actually crazy. Gotta say, though, savage-ass Vader maybe constituted half of my enjoyment of that episode. So legit.

It has stepped up in quality a lot. I was not a fan of Season 1 overall but Season 2 has started off pretty great. The Clone Wars link certainly plays a part in it so hopefully they can continue to improve without total reliance on oh yeah remember the clone wars angle

I went into it with a lot of scrutiny, and yeah, the gulf in quality is pretty remarkable. I haven't seen the subsequent episodes but I know they bring back some of the clones. Basically seems like the series has turned into a bridge from the Clone Wars to the OT. I still think some of the cast is pretty lame (mandalore lady, faux-Chewie, Ezra), but now that they've padded it with Ahsoka, the clones, and muthafuckin Darth Vader, it's way more palatable. They just need to do right by these new characters.

I've read that season 1 isn't really that great, but I'll plug through it in the expectation (from reading reports online) that it gets much better.
There's a fair amount of garbage is Season 1 but episode 5 is where the show starts letting its potential shine through.

Speaking of Ahsoka,
has there been any word about the reason for her change in appearance between Clone Wars and Rebels? Namely her face and head-tail markings. Do the markings just change with age? Did she alter her appearance to stay incongnito? Or were the showrunners just unhappy with her original design and used the new series as an excuse to give her a redesign?

The new series has a different style from TCW and
she's older
, I think that's all it is.

Loved TCW. I just finished Rebels and I don't like it nearly as much. I really don't care for Ezra.

Let's keep in mind that the total number of Rebels episodes currently out doesn't even equate to a full season of TCW. A lot of people hated Ahsoka when she first appeared, but look at her now. Might be a stretch saying this now, but who's to say that Ezra wouldn't rise to a similar status by the time this entire series is done?

I think Ezra gets better after the first episode.

Then again, I have a much higher tolerance for kid-appeal characters than most of the people on this forum. Like I actually enjoy Zeb. The only character I don't really like out of the Ghost crew is Sabine, and that's more because she hasn't gotten as much characterization as the others yet.

The best part is that he has a unique fight style that works for him.

the scariest that character has been since Empire Strikes Back, really

just stomping everyone with ease

I just watched the Utapau Arc. Really enjoyed it. It was surprising to see
the Kyber Crystal being used in this story. I really liked how Yoda talks about it's uses in the old time as the power source for use in super weapons. Really liked Obi Wan and Anakin discussion about Ashoka. I am curious about the Yavin Code though. Never heard of it until I saw this episode
Too bad this will never be fully animated. This arc had lot of great moments, and the humor was well done.

Next up the Bad Batch Arc!

Vong appearing wouldn't have mattered, the NJO and all that crap was still going to be wiped out by the new movies anyways. The Vong idea wasn't bad, it's just the NJO was such a shit show of a series

I heard that the Vong appearing in the show was actually different from the NJO Vong. I might be wrong about this though..

They should just totally retcon the Vong into having invaded Chiss space and having been promptly rekt without the galaxy at large even being aware.

Are Chiss even canon at this point? I know Dooku had a Chiss apprentice in some EU stuff but I think that's all non-canon legacy now.

The Clone Wars is the sole redeeming factor of the Prequel Trilogy. It's very good, better than any of the movies.
Anakin Skywalker is actually a nuanced, and developed character in this series. How the heck did George Lucas fail so miserably in the movies but do it right in this series?

It's great

I'm on the last Season, but glad to know that Rebels has actually picked the mantle that The Clone Wars left behind.

Chiss were in the Star Wars Commander mobile game, so they are canon.

Just finished s05e16 and my jaw is still on the floor, what a goddamned crazy episode I can't believe this ever ended

Loved
seeing Black Sun a few eps back, brought me back to playing Shadows of the Empire as a kid. Captain Gregor was a badass. The Maul vs Pre Viszla fight was great, Satine's death was terribly sad, Kenobi opening the door only to see all hell breaking loose with Mandalorians fighting all over the place was great, and everything after Palpatine calling for his shuttle was AMAZING. Once I heard that, I knew shit was going to go down but I definitely did not expect that epic ass whooping. Sidious is infinitely more badass after this episode

Finished s05, all I can say is what an amazing show. It's absolute Star Wars perfection

That's my favourite part too. Actually having a portrayal of Anakin where he's always trying to do the right thing but you can see that he's barely holding it together sometimes was something the era desperately needed.

The show also did wonders for the clones, and on very rare occasions the battle droids.

Getting towards the end of season 1 of CW. I've definitely come around on the art style, and am definitely into the clone's development as individuals.

There's only one thing I hate. As if the Jar Jar / Padme episodes weren't bad enough already the guy they brought on to replace Ahmed Best is even more annoying than the real thing.

That's only for a while, Best returns as Jar Jar later on.

I just started watching this while I exercise. I mean just started as in I just finished the movie and only that so far. Despite the bad ratings, I actually kind of liked the movie. I mean sure it's not like the main series, but I thought it was cool anyway. I never thought it would reach one of the Episode movies as far as how good it was. Anyway, I'm pleasantly surprised by that. I also really fucking loved the art style in it, honestly. Not sure if the show keeps up the quality of the movie, but I'm invested now.

Kind of hoping to get into a big Star Wars kick now. Going to try and watch all the movies, watch a bunch of this and perhaps play KOTOR 1/2 before/just after Episode VII.

If you liked the movie, you'll love the series. I found the movie pretty bad but the show's consistently good to great.

The show actually improves in quality in a big way. The later seasons look amazing. Watch the recommended episodes in the OP and you'll be all set. Go ahead and watch the honorable mentions too since those are all good episodes.

I'll probably try and watch them all. I don't really like the idea of missing some stuff, even if it isn't the greatest. We'll see, though.

I started watching Clone Wars a few weeks back, and I've been going through it in chronological order. I'm only in season 2 so far and I honestly love it. The personality given to each clone and the stronger bond already formed between Anakin and Obi-Wan than established in the films feels so much more natural.

Knowing that it gets better and better has me so excited.

Oh yeah, watch them all if you can. I enjoyed all the episodes, even the Jar Jar and droid episodes.

Keep in mind that some of the episodes go out of chronological order: http://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-the-clone-wars-chronological-episodeorder. It didn't really matter too much to me, but I've seen some people complain about that.

Okay, I just started CW. I've never seen it beyond the odd episode here and there. Question: why does Obi Wan seem to know Ventress already in the movie? Was it because at the time it was meant to be a continuation of Genndy's series? It's just odd that they seem to act like he knows her and the viewer should too.

Same thing with Rex, it almost feels like we're supposed to already be familiar with him. Although with him it sticks out less because he requires less explanation anyway.

Its just like how everyone was familiar with Grievous and Cody in ep 3.

The series starts after a timeskip from Attack of The Clones. All characters get their backstory revealed at some point.

So, I am watching the the first season, and I can't believe I am saying this, but Jar Jar is 100 times more likable than the movies. in fact, I have actually laughed at his antics for a few times.

Sure, him being a representative is still 100% stupid, but the show has actually shown him being smart. I don't know, maybe because it is animation so his "stooge-ness" don't feel out of place (unlike the movies).

Okay, I'm watching. Just a few episodes in on season 1 now. The Malevolence arc was pretty good and I liked the Rookies episode. I've just now watched the episode where Anakin has to use that shitty gold R3 that screws everything up. So far I'm liking the show pretty well.

All the animations are stiff, but the artwork and textures and angles are fantastic at times. Sometimes the composition is really striking.

Does Grevious ever stop taking a string of L's? So far every episode has been him getting his ass kicked.

Oh, are the white and blue parts of Ashoka's head her actual skin, or is it wrapped in cloth or something? Is it just tails like a Twilek kinda? I know there was another Jedi in TPM that was her type of alien, but I never knew then either.

To answer your questions.

The animation gets severely upgraded after season 3 when George's perfectionism kicked and he started pumping a million per episide.

Grievous takes some really cool wins. Specially in the lair of grievous and nightsisters arc. But he takes the single most humilliating L in Star Wars history. You'll know it when you see it

Ahsoka's head is a hybrid of horns at the top and soft tentacles going down. And yes Shaak Ti is from the same species as Ahsoka. She also appears in the Show.

Recently finished Clone Wars and started Rebels.

Does Rebels get better like Clone Wars? I'm on episode 6 so far and each episode are just one offs and they feel very kid friendly, maybe a bit too kid friendly for my tastes.

I also miss the great action of Clone Wars, six episodes in and there has been only a handful of fight scenes and almost no one using their light saber to fight.

Rebels is a bit more kid friendly at times. But trust me when I say It eventualky becomes Clone Wars Season 7

Currently at Clone Wars season 4, while I loved most of the previous seasons is it just me or is the first disc of this season a bit meh?

season 2 spoilers.

I have heard that Asoka and some of the Clones show up later so hopefully they become a big part of the show at that point. The show so far isn't awful but it kind of reminds me of season 1 TCW rather than the later seasons.

I'm going to continue watching it, though. I wanna find out about Asoka and the Clones more than I do whatever is going on with these new characters.
