Star Wars: The Clone Wars (and Rebels!) Appreciation Thread

so i stopped watching clone wars after season 2, schoolwork and thinking that it wasnt good enough to keep up with it is what kept me away from it. after watching the last trailer for the Force Awakens and saw small promo of rebels season 2 at the end made me want to get back clone wars and jump into rebels. i finished clone wars two weeks ago and caught up to rebels last night. First up clone wars is really good after season 3. not counting all the jar jar and droids episodes i love the interaction and growth of all the characters. My favorite arc was with the clones dealing with a jedi that is slowly turning to the dark side. I just wish there was one more episode after that or like five minutes dedicated to what happens after. My only complaint for clone wars is that sometime the dialogue is a little cheesy for me but i think im nitpicking. Now Rebels is a show that i really like and i think it might end up being better than clone wars. I for one like Ezra and dont find him annoying at all, although my favorite character is that droid that i forget his name. and a small complaint with this show is not enough original music. It bothers when i hear a favorite theme of mine every five minutes or so. If you're going to use a popular star wars theme I say stick to one per episode.

Caught an episode of Rebels the other day on Disney XD(?) and I was pleasantly surprised. My daughter was also enjoying it, so I'm definitly going to watch it more often. Is it possible to watch the show through Netflix?

Yeah it is on Netflix

Yeah it is on Netflix

Cool, my girl went crazy over the green Twi'lek pilot :)

Best character in the show, hands down.

No lies, between her and Ashoka there is a debate the strong females are in the toons.

Hera and the jedi dude has the weirdest chemist. Can't figure if they are really good friends. Or if there wasn't a war going on they would be fucking like rabbits.

Just finished Rebel's season 1.

VADER! AHSOKA! I'm really interested in seeing their dynamic seeing how close they were in TCW.

I believe the actress herself has said that Kanan and Hera once were more physically romantically involved but its simmered down and it's more like a "mom and dad" love than a "boyfriend and girlfriend" love now.

The book A New Dawn details their first meeting and half of Kanan's character in that book revolves around how much he wants to get in her pants.

Wonder if we are gonna get a vader vs Ashoka .

they wouldn't set up that they knew about each other if they weren't going to do that down the line

damn shame, I like Ahsoka. Gonna be rough seeing her get murdered.

Rebels is good, but far too kid friendly for SW, even the darker parts, they could do so much more with it, to show how the empire is slowly destroying the peoples lives.

But at least not Jar Jar Binks kid friendly :-

Yeah, it's shitty going from Clone Wars straight to Rebels. Pretty sure not a single person has gotten killed with a light saber so far. Light sabers are just shields so far rather than weapons. The show barely has any action, really. A lot of times the Clone Wars did action better than the movies while Rebels does no action.

Grint and Aresko wish they could agree.

Oh yeah, those guys. That's sadly the most violent thing that has happened in the show so far. That happened multiple times per episode in TCW.

Rebels just makes me want a real season 7.

I'm making my way through CW slower than I thought I would. Just finished the storyline in season 1 where they defend the little village of Welsh monkey cat people whose chief doesn't want to fight. It was an okay arc, I guess. I liked the Kurosawa vibes.

The arc before that where Dooku, Obi Wan and Anakin get captured by the space pirates was pretty shitty, I thought. It's like if in the middle of WW2, General Eisenhower, General Pershing and Adolf Hitler all got kidnapped by some biker nobodies, and then managed to escape and return to the war like nothing happened. Gimme a break.

The weakest episodes are by far in season 1.

Just finished the first season. The Ryloth arc was good, and the finale with Cad Bane was too. I've already been spoiled that Cham is
Hera's father
. Pretty cool connection. Not that I know her very well yet.

Also cool to see that one sniper chick who was watching the Boonta Eve pod race. I can't remember her name, but I remember that she was supposed to be some big deal in the EU when TPM came out. I guess Clone Wars will be her only canon material now, though. I wonder if she knew that the Jedi she and her crew captured was the former child racing star. I suppose probably so.

Whoa...didn't know about this thread. I watched 5 episodes of Rebels before I found out there were 6 season of Clone Wars. Took about 2 months and finished them all. It's really too bad that the series was cut short. It's pretty damn good. I'm amazed by the sheer quality of it. Of course, there are some stinkers here and there, but I'd rate the whole series pretty highly.

Now that I'm done with Clone Wars, I can continue on my Rebels watch.

Does the dialog/acting get better? Watching the first three episodes of the clone wars and Its really rough...not looking forward to it. Maybe this isn't for me.

The show really exiles when you start seeing arcs that last multiple episodes. Most of the one offs aren't that great especially in season 1.

Posted this in the Machete thread but thought I'd crosspost it somewhere more relevant:

If there was one single few-episode arc from The Clone Wars that you were allowed to include in a Star Wars movie watch party, which would you choose? Anakin-centric preferably but that's a guideline, not a rule.

Season 1 is very uneven.

Season 2 is much better.

Season 3 is much better than Season 2.

And so on, with Season 5 being the peak.

Unquestionably.

I was so disappointed when the movie came out and he didn't live up to that portrayal.

Wasn't it because he had his chest crushed in one of the last episodes? It's one of the reasons I was surprised that they made the entire series non-canon (since Anakin's scar and Grievous' health problems seem to have come from Tartanovsky)

The last 4 episode arc. Explaining the force in great detail and becoming a force ghost, etc. Actually making sense of the Clone War deception as well.

I pretend that TCW was an alternate universe Star wars because Anakin is nothing like what we saw in the movies. Anakin isn't a jerk. He actually seems pretty sane/boring. And he has a padawan? Sure, okay. Other than that its not a bad show and definitely gets better in the last half of the series.

I do the opposite and pretend that the 3 movies are in an alternate universe.

Nothing like we saw in the movies, not a jerk, sane...these sounds like arguments for The Clone Wars. The prequels were the alternate universe, TCW is the real deal.

Right now I'm thinking Mortis followed the the last 3 or 4 episodes of s6.

Yup.
Anakin is actually a pretty darn likeable dude most of the time.

My wish is that the Clone Wars crew got a second movie and basically did a more focused RotS.
I think the Obi-wan v Anakin duel and Padme's death with their Clone Wars versions would have been legitimately sad.

Just wanted to bump this up a bit. I'm halfway through S4 of TCW and am really impressed with how good it is. It's remarkable how much better these characters are than in the PT, even Jar Jar. Also I'm glad that there are seemingly so many other people in the Ahsoka fan club; she's an amazing character.

Pretty soon I'll have to track down a method for watching Rebels. As someone without cable will I just have to buy it through iTunes or something similar?

Definitely an awesome character, up there with and maybe even above Obi-Wan.

I watched the film and the first 3 or 4 episodes and said nah. I've heard it gets better so I might look up a guide and try again one day.
Yeah started off badly but quickly jumped from there and was a continuous progression after that.

I'm revisiting Clone Wars thanks to Netflix, forgot how bad the first season was but it starts getting so much better from season two onwards... From what I've seen of Rebels so far, it looks like it could be a lot of fun but will wait for it to pop up on Netflix so I can binge on it (don't think it's on Netflix AUS yet).

So in the middle of season 2 right now, but I finally set aside time and reluctantly watched the movie and tuned into the show on Netflix. I'm really enjoying it and I think the VAs they're getting for the side Jedi are fantastic. Finished the Geonosis arc, with the first episode in it being one of the best. The characterizations are great so far, even if Grevious is still a chump (though they keep hinting his backstory and because of that he remains the most interesting to me). It's just funny how it connects to the mainline films with the characters being so different and keeping in the back of my mind that 95% of these characters bite it in III. Hoping to finish season 2 today, and I wanted to say that whoever came up with the idea of giving Anakin a Padawan of his own was brilliant if only because Ashoka is enjoyable on her own. The relationships between the Jedi themselves and the Clones they're building are good. Then seeing how both Cody and Rex are almost extensions of Obi-Wan and Anakin, respectively, make their working relationships fun as well. Bringing the Clones to the forefront is obvious but they could've ignored them all the same and I applaud the show for giving them screen time, as so far, the Jedi-less, Clone-centric episodes are some of the strongest.

Anyways, hoping to get all the way through to wherever Rebels is currently. I put the show off for the longest time, and while I still am iffy on the sometimes stiff-looking CG and art style, I'm having a blast in the vein of a Saturday morning cartoon.

You can thank Dave Filoni for that.

I rewatched the movie the other day and it's really not as bad as I remembered. The first half, all the way through the actual finding of Rotta, is even fairly enjoyable. Not great, but certainly not a bad start. Then it just gets really boring.

So I finally decided to give Rebels a shot recently. I watched the first three episodes but for the most part I'm not really feeling it. Does it get better or should I expect more of what I've seen in the first three episodes?

It gets better, although I think most of us would agree that it never hits the highs that TCW did.
Like I mentioned in other thread. TCW is my favourite thing in star wars universe. So its a little unfair to compare rebels to it. Heck force awakens was dissapointing to me after clone wars last few episodes

Ahsoka Tano is one of my favorite characters in Star Wars canon. I'd love to see her show up in one of the movies, spinoff or no.

This piece is a couple years old and has been posted before but it is one I return to on occasion. I find this part particularly poignant:

When the Jedi Council offers to allow Ahsoka back into the Jedi Order, there is no mea culpa, no recognition that the Jedi failed Barriss where Anakin succeeded with Ahsoka. She is not told that she is a valued and valuable member of the Order or that they need her to inspire the next generation of Jedi. They simply told her that her trial must have been orchestrated by the Force for her own interior growth. It’s a powerful signal of the Order’s stagnation and refusal to self-reflect. Anakin and Ahsoka are by no means perfect, but they could have infused the Jedi Order with a new spark of life and perhaps rewritten some of the rules that allowed the Order to be so blindsided by Palpatine. The Jedi needed more people like Ahsoka and Anakin, people who are thoughtful and aware and always trying to do the right thing. Instead they cast Ahsoka aside and treat Anakin as mere tool of war rather than as a complete person.

And perhaps with Ahsoka by his side, Anakin could have found the strength to reform the Jedi. When she tells him that she is going to leave the Jedi Order, she surprises him by telling him that she knows that he’s thought about leaving the Order as well. Ahsoka gets him in a way that no other Jedi—not even Obi Wan—does, and she sees not just the good in him, but also his struggles. The Jedi didn’t pay attention to Barriss’ frustrations and largely ignore Anakin’s divided heart until it is much, much too late.Count Dooku and Anakin aren’t Palpatine’s only accomplices in the death of the Republic and the rise of the Empire. The Jedi Order is complicit as well, by valuing protocol and tradition over truth and justice, and by ignoring what the experiences of its individual members say about the institution as a whole. Through Ahsoka, Clone Wars acknowledges the failure of the Jedi Order in a way that the prequel movies fail to highlight.

I think the first 2 seasons of Clone Wars gets a bad rap. The biggest issue is that production values are not that high. I was watching it today and really like a lot of the episodes.

The Lego Star Wars 3 game with the Clone Wars is excellent. I have no clue why it is idling at a 65% rating when it is far better than the previous games as equivalent to modern Lego games.

This is by far my favorite Star Wars. I love this show even more than the movies, including The Force Awakens.

Favorite characters are Ashoka Tano, Obi Wan, and Cad Bane.

Probably because of the terrible quasi-RTS battle levels.
