So like....what happened? lol Doesn't look like a dog fight happening anywhere

The new TIE fighters have this red streak/section, wondering if there's an functional reason for that, or if it's just aesthetic. One thing about the new ones is that
there's room for a pilot on both sides (lego set reveals this)
, I wonder if there were TIE models in the OT that had this, think not.

he would've killed them, as the younglings they are.

Good question! And one the trailer didn't answer. It's almost like they made a trailer that doesn't tell people everything, and one that beckons them to the theater to find out.

Funny you two bring up RoTS and spoilery trailers. Someone posting the Episode I trailer above me made me go back and watch all of the prequel trailers.

That Episode III trailer gives away EVERYTHING. Now in all fairness, it being the last prequel meant that we knew ultimately where it had to end before even going into it, but we didn't have to know how they got there. Literally every major plot point gets shown in that trailer. You don't even have to watch the movie, you can just pop that two minute trailer on and you'll be good.

This is a CGI shot and the camera work is still so frickin cool.

I bet any money JJ makes the descent silent, eh did that so often in the Star Trek movies, from high audio to complete silence in space.

I like the effect tbh

I would say my favorite part of the trailer is seeing all those modern effects. It looks amazing. I can't wait to see to this movie.

I really liked the shots of that bumbling red robot in that Tibetan looking place that that they showed.

Amazing.

Have to say, people talk about Phantom Menace having good trailers.. but how people managed to stay hyped even after seeing Jar Jar.. I don't know.

Yeah, is it only me that thinks The Phantom Menace trailer looks shit?

Never hyped me up originally and it looks even worse now.

That robot looked like an aperture robot or something. Star Wars is Half Life 3 confirmed!

It's really the first time we are getting what I would call a visually convincing Star Wars

The originals were great for the time but those effects aren't fooling anyone, and the prequel CGI is just too dodgy because the technology wasn't quite ready

The mix of practical effects combined with state of the art CG is really paying off for Ep 7

The robot is practical, not CGI btw

Wow, really? That's pretty cool.

Yeah i listend to the rebel force radio trailer breakdown, they have a guy who has worked on Lucasarts films before and has been around Pinewood during filming, knows people there, he says he saw footage of it.

Now it could be "supplemented" but he said it was a smaller person controlling it

The initial trailer does indeed have Jar Jar antics in it. But that's the first hint of new Star Wars after 16 years, so people pass over it, they were too excited (and also trailers being super exciting was still relatively new even in 1999).
In the best TPM trailer, the number 2 (not to be confused with the number 2 that represents the film's quality) one, there is literally about one shot of Anakin and Jar Jar in the whole thing. That trailer frames the movie as a siege/war movie where they're attempting to liberate an occupied world.

Technically the film's plot really is that, but yeah, TPM is not a siege/war movie.

Yeah, TPM trailer hasn't aged well at all. Certain things are just "off". The awkward handshake between Anakin and Obi Wan, the bad CGI, Jar Jar, etc. really stick out to me now.

I think at the time I didn't really care because I didn't believe that you could make a terrible Star Wars movie. I was wrong. I was so very wrong.

Interesting the guys on RFR and IGN also thought the voice at the end was not Lupita but Leia

Im not sure, I still think its Lupitas

heh, it's true. They even show you glimpses of Order fucking 66.

Good thing the trailers for TFA have been all hype, no spoilers. I mean - obviously the trailer itself is a spoiler for the movie, but if you haven't read the leaked script (and I haven't), then you'd have no idea about the film's plot. And that's a great thing.

My point was to enhance your point, its both awesome and practical

I was both agreeing with you and hoping to make it sound cooler :o

I love both CGI and Practical. I am looking forward to the movie regardless of the effects. I am very very excited myself about seeing the movie. I apologize if I seemed a little harsh.

As for the Robot, if that Robot is mostly Practical, I have to say that Practical effects have really advanced. Now that would be impressive.

I love the surprise honestly, everyone was so sure BB8 was CGI, nope, when I saw that red Robot I thought CGI and was told different, its incredible to me the lengths they are going to, theres no need to go to the extra effort but they are doing it because, frankly, it will hold up better and does fool the eyes.

Lupitas character will be interesting being ALL CGI, would like to see it in motion, I know the performance will be great at least.
