Someone posted a great newbie guide: http://www.reddit.com/r/starbound/comments/1s5zok/the_newbies_guide_to_starbound/
Some minor gameplay spoilers in here:
I would just add that everyone should craft a pick right away. Digging with the default tool is much slower.
I bought it, but never played it. Not really sure why, just never felt like installing it.
oh hey look it's terraria but with a hub or something.
i'm sorry, this just seems lazy.
Can you dig in the worlds and find dungeons and shit?

"You have no idea"
Same dev, same type of world. Yup, it's pretty fucking similar to Terraria! The space ship is the hub btw, that's my interpretation of it.

Are we talking about Terraria on space? Is this game worth it?
Not?Not the same dev.

That's a fair, albeit simplistic description. It's still a work in progress (some aspects are still rough/not implemented etc), but great fun already. If you liked Terraria, you'll like Starbound.
Any pro tips you guys have for finding silver would be more than welcome, can't progress at all now without it.

Wow, you really should play it, one of my favorite games of the past few years. Starbound is basically Terraria on steroids with a different theme. In other words, it's fucking awesome.
First boss keeps on despawning before getting the chance to kill it, any suggestions?
Block it in with blocks? At least until they patch in the fix later tonight.

osx i take it?
I want a screenshot of the gaf server. Something to set a goal towards creating myself.
How long have you let it sit at the Chucklefish logo? My initial load on my admin account only took 15 seconds or so, but on my gimped account (roommates) it sat at the Chucklefish splash for over a minute ('not responding') before loading the main menu.Nope, windows.

spent a lot on presents for people.
Don't you think it's time to spent a little on a present for yourself? I'd say you'd earned it.
Watched the giant bomb quick look.
This looks awesome, definitely gonna buy it after finals are over.
ugh
Can someone sell me on why I should buy this game in a quick paragraph?
My friend from back home and I have been desperately searching for a good multiplayer game to no avail (we are both gamers who idiotically bought Macbook Pros). If we generally enjoy ARPGs, MOBAs, and MMORPGs, is it likely we would dig this game?
Sorry if this is unanswerable, I would just like to hear directly from some GAFfers before making my purchase.
