Not gonna lie, space travel in this game is a huge bummer. It's just: open videogame menu - hold X to fast travel - fade black loading screen - landing animation (zero interactivity) - another load screen and suddenly you're on the surface of a new planet.

Zero immersion and the whole process feels archaic. They really couldn't make the starmap a display in the pilot cabin that you can interact with while you're in the chair?

I might sound weird but everything in this game is so videogame-y. Menu this, submenu that, loading screen, loading screen, navigate three menu screens to equip a helmet, good lord.
The menus are very messy in that regard. So many layers of the map and having to remember to hold the exit button otherwise you're in for spamming it.

You should of told him "To fuck your wife" so this way you'd get fired and get more time to play. ;)
Tell his boss to fuck his wife or the the posters wife? If you're talking about the posters wife that' not exactly an insult 😅
Was there any doubt? Quarter of a million people on Steam playing the $100 version. #2 and #4 on Xbox top paid even before the general game pass release.

This game is going to do good business.
Enormous sales potential, and over a long time as well. I'm trying to get home to have a go but some muppet has blocked my car in 😤

Keep in mind that for 99$ you also get access to the first DLC once is out...So if the DLC is more than 30$, this could be a good price, if you invest in advance.

I can upgrade to the Premium Edition before the expansion release for that same price, on Xbox the upgrade just happens to be more expensive because it's Play Anywhere.

This is the hard sci-fi RPG I’ve always wanted. It’s 2001 meets a realistic Buck Rogers. The soundtrack is amazing. Been playing with Atmos for headphones and just getting lost in it.
Put that in the game description "it's 2001 meets a realistic Buck Rogers" 😃 I'd buy that for a dollar.

Holding tab to see all lootable objects in BG3 has spoiled me. But man, are the interior designs dense, and they reward you for searching every nook and cranny.

Enjoying what little I've played so far. Biggest complaint is how much you notice the engine, especially in 2023. It plays well, and looks good for the most part. But it just feels old as hell. They can't possibly use this engine for the next game, I wonder if people will get sick of it this go around.

I read somewhere that it's a lot like Outer Worlds. I think I agree with that. It's bigger in scope and quality/polish but it feels very similar. Not a bad thing, but it's not a No Man's Sky replacement or even competitor. The "space" games like Elite, NMS and Star Citizen shouldn't feel threatened by this game. It's not doing the same stuff.

As to the game itself, yeah I'm having a good time with it so far. It's a Bethesda game. Same formula in a new setting.

Feels like a stupid question, but is there any way I can play this on my Steam Deck via Game Pass while I’m away at the moment (I bought early access without checking my travel dates)? It doesn’t seem to be on XCloud for some reason (which is working surprisingly well on the hotel wifi unexpectedly).

Obviously telling the poster to the tell boss that he'll fuck his wife is what he is doing over the weekends lol. 😀

Guys why cant this game just be a flawless masterpiece that gets everything perfect, has the graphics that top Cyberpunk 2077, has the player freedom but the cinematic direction of a Rockstar game, in a fully seamless universe where I can fly in and around every planet through the atmosphere and visit entire cities without loading screens?

WHAT A BUNCH OF HACKS

Man, I tried to play this on XSX last night, big fuck you. On top of 30fps, it looks like they are using low/medium settings. Back to PC for the remainder of my time with it.

Depends who you ask :) I'm looking forward to playing it once it's officially released. I hope I find the energy in the evening to put myself behind the controller. Haven't played games since the beginning of april.

They can make a new engine like the Creation Engine that can implement better textures and mechanics, It's been 10 fucking years and everything that isn't a main NPC is downright ugly, even Cyberpunk 2077 at launch was better.
It isn't that easy and there would be a lot of tradeoffs that would have to be made for it to happen and release within a reasonable time and budget that likely wouldn't make the endeavor worth it.

The game looks great for a BGS game with all its underlying systems and mechanics, scale and scope, and high production values.

For better or worse, it's a BGS ass BGS game.

Are you so sure about the 3 million in one day now?

Going by steam stats, peak players usually sits around 5-8% of sales. So 250K peak within the first two hours of launch which is in the middle of the night for UK and europe should put the game comfortably at around 1 to 1.5 million sales on steam alone of the premium versions.

Dunno if it's cause of 30fps but the controls seem very slow?

Gonna up the sensitivity see if that makes a difference.

Only been able to play 30 mins on series x. So far so good. I actually don’t really mind the 30fps, which is a nice surprise. Will, dive in more this weekend.

Is it just me or is performance kinda bad in New Atlantis on series X despite barely anything happening on screen?

Question about the first combat place before New Atlantis:

Did anyone find an actual terramorph enemy somewhere in the facility? I couldnt find anything and if there wasn't, would be pretty disappointing adding all that dialogue and storytelling there...rpgs need this kind of side content
Keep exploring around there....

Does day length vary on planets, and is there a time conversion? Like 1 minute in real life is 30 minutes in game etc?

Don't be mad at me GAF but...

The outer worlds by Obsidian is by far better than this game. I don't think it's bad, by any stretch, it just really suffers from being so expansive and for the most part feels very much like you are wasting a ton of time to digest small little bits of story here and there.

I actually feel like the same gripes I had with Death Stranding (90% of the game just traversing around looking for content) which makes it very boring so far. It kind of feels like you are waddling around in a sandbox / game engine with sparsely populated areas lol.

maybe it gets better later but so far the main story being quite good is the only thing keeping my interest.

Had 2 crashes so far in west district, walked up to a door and hard crash, game closed. Second time after reloading the game went to go into the map, blue screen couldn’t do anything 😑

Xbox series X version.

Man, I know reviews are opinions, and I respect that, but after playing this, how can you grade anything lower than an 8? Like this game is freaking amazing. The depth, the detail, the amount of content, I am chilling in New Atlantis for hours and just met my parents; they are so charming! Enjoying this game, bravo to Bethesda; I think its safe to say they are back.

I've been playing for eight hours or so. Not nearly enough to explore all the game's systems, but enough to get a decent feel for the game I think. And it's a Bethesda game all right, through and through. People who expected Elite Dangerous with hardcore RPG elements will be sorely disappointed.

Story and quests has that cookie cutter Bethesda feel to them. Lot's of tropes and idealism, black or white characterizations etc, nothing really edgy or controversial. But it does what it does really well though, which is provide players with a canvas to paint their own story on. I think about these games as complex video game versions of the "choose your own adventure"-books. You're not gonna get fine literature out of it but the story will be your story.

Characters are a little stiff, especially unnamed ones, but a lot of them are still interesting or endearing. Voice acting ranges from mediocre to fantastic. Some of the main characters are almost BG3 level. Leakers said you could only talk to a few characters but this isn't true at all, you can talk to all characters but only a minority will have proper dialogue trees. This is completely in line with previous Bethesda titles.

When it comes to the planets and stuff the procedural generation might be lacking, but the planet tiles it generates are absolutely stunning imo. They truly look like believable alien places, especially compared to the cartoony worlds of No Man's Sky's. It'll be interesting to see to what extent assets get reused, but so far I've seen good variety in environments. Exploration of planets is fairly simplistic but a lot of fun. I don't want to tunnel through half the planet like in NMS.

The game has a whole bunch of smaller problems though, luckily it's mostly stuff that could be fixed through mods and patches:
  • No HDR on PC
  • No FOV slider (honestly guys...)
  • No brightness settings
  • No body when you look down
  • No proper map when navigating cities (huge pain in the ass)
  • Can't command companions(?)
  • No real space travel. Planets are physical objects that move properly through space but it's just used as a backdrop at the moment. Give us supercruise or something!

Theres a cargo hold on the wall, back left of the ship? I think id have to double check as ive wrapped it for the night
Yeah this is incorrect. That cargo hold was a different ship, to access your own you just open inventory whilst your on your ship and hit rb to switch.

No worries. Star Citizen will launch around 2080. Just pay wait a little bit more
