Stargate SG1 and Atlantis, anyone?

At the end of SG1's season seven, with the epic Lost City finale, I was pretty hyped for Atlantis. Season eight of SG1 has proven to be disappointing so far (except for the season opener, New Order, and the two new episodes that have only aired in the UK thus far, but bittorrent does wonders), but Atlantis is really rocking the house. Since Rising, the season opener, I felt it had been going downhill, but the two latest episodes, Sanctuary (14) and Before I Sleep (15) have been fantastic. Both are about
the Ancients
, which is just a very exciting theme.

So, Atlantis is going to get even better. I've read descriptions for the season finale, The Siege, in which the Wraith attack Atlantis. SG1 is picking up pace as well, with the two-parter Reckoning coming up, which probably tie up a lot of loose ends, the 90-minute special episode Threads, which will also end some storylines (
Daniel has to choose whether or not to ascend again
) and then the two-part season finale, Moebius. Hopefully, the Goa'uld will get killed off once and for all, because in season nine there will be a new enemy, Atlantis and SG1 will cross paths and SG1 will explore more of the Ancients' legacy.

Can't wait.

They're really not comparable. Stargate is and always will be the spiritual successor of oldschool star trek (and oddly enough, oldschool battlestar galactica). Light moralizing fun. Battlestar Galactica is trying something different: Serious sci-fi.

The last episode of Atlantis (Before I Sleep) was absolutely killer. Probably the best Stargate episode yet, in my books. I dig the self-contained time travel plot that doesn't completely fuck everything up.

From what I've heard they, SG1, goes back in time and somehow either wipe out, or change the evolution of the G'ould.

I hear Ra makes an appearance in the season finale so they probably do try and wipe out the G'ould in the past.

I'm not liking Antlantis very much. They seem to be recycling all the old SG1 stories, but with a new cast and an enemy that might has well have been called the "Goa'uld 2". Even some of the one-per-episode cast are recycled actors from SG-1

I actually am looking more forward to Atlantis than SG1 these days. It seems like it's going to have a killer finale. SG1 just hasn't had much action these days. Things will pick up in the second half ot he season though. Like they one with Mayborn. Love that dude!

Browder may spice things up a bit. He'll bring in Farscape fans who don't usually watch SG-1 and IMO he's plays a good space-cowboy

course it depends on his character in the show and the writing.

Yes.
SG1 get their hands on a Puddle Jumper from Atlantis and go back in time, change history (on either Abydos or Earth) and then, at present day, tie up the loose ends. Moebius part 1 will be the 'going back in time'-part and part 2 will be the present day-part. Ra will indeed be back, as will Apophis. Ra was really the Stargate movie's villain, Apophis is SG1's classic villain.
So yeah, this will be very, very exciting! The entire concept of this finale is just awesome.

Yes, it was great. It wasn't the best Stargate episode of all (that would be episodes like Window of Opportunity, Abyss, Lost City, Meridian and so on), but it is the best Atlantis episode. I liked how they seemed to be showing scenes from Rising, but in fact weren't. It's kind of neat to know that the second Weir-expedition survived because of the demise of the first Weir-expedition (the failsafe, which made Atlantis rise to the surface if the shields collapsed). I wonder whether or not they will get those ZPMs...

I don't like serious sci-fi. Stargate has changed all this. Star Trek drowned in taking itself seriously, by always solving problems through tech-babble.

Doesn't this hold true for every sci-fi show?

Me too, "It's good to be king" is going to be great. January 4, people. Just use bittorrent, don't wait for it to air because we all hate commercials.

Gawd. the last episode of SG-1 was weak. It was nice to see Claudia Black again though. Atlantis has been okay this far. SG-1 got better after the first season so I'm hoping the same thing happens with Atlantis.

Why did you think it was weak? I liked a lot about it. Seeing General Hammond, the aliens on that planet the Prometheus landed on, the chemistry between Michael Shanks and Claudia Black... But the really good episodes are now coming up. "It's good to be King", "Threads", "Reckoning" part I & II, "Moebius" part I & II...

First of all, that bitch with hiccups was annoying as hell, and couldn't act at all. Whey did she had as long screen time as that, most of it could have been cut out and replaced with something more importaint. That alone would have made the episode much better. Also I didn't feel that the Shanks/Black thing was working that well...

The main plot was ok, nothing too impressive but nothing was seriously wrong with it. Everything just happened a bit too easily.

Ghost

Chili Con Carnage!
Did they ever explain why Black kept asking Shanks for sex when they first met? That just seemed really wierd to me.

Hiccup-girl was annoying, okay. But I thought the chemistry between Shanks and Black was good. Of course, this was no fantastic episode, but it's one of those nice ones in between the awesome ones.

Black's character is just edgy, I think that was why she kept asking for sex. It was cool when she still had that supersoldier suit on though... "I'm not that kind of guy..." :lol
