Starhawk PUBLIC BETA Thread | Available NOW on PSN

I hope BnB was just a test for an optional mode. But I know that their integrity will keep them from sidelining "such a unique feature". Besides, the generic as shit level designs don't really offer any hint of true level design.

I still feel the open, risk-free nature of bnb is borked but you guys all defended how awesome it is to drop whatever you want, whenever you want. Go you! Thanks for supporting shit. Way to only think of yourself and not the potential shitty players spamming everything anywhere but where needed/wanted.

Way to feel like my zone idea was limited even though it would have OPENED THE FUCKING GAME UP!

Thanks.

Edit: Shit!

And unless zones works exactly like my idea and not just the way it is with zones to capture, that won't suffice because I don't see why anyone would bother when their current strategy is "successful".

Until you add reason to move forward, and limit resources until you earn access to it, this shit will fail. But that idea was shot down because some of you forgot how videogames, level design and tactics and strategies work.

Wow, calm down fella. None of us have any idea what ideas and solutions LBI will implement for the final game, or even how Zones will work. Don't get all hostile at us just because we didn't like your idea when it goes against the grain of what Starhawk tries to do.

The game has amazing potential. If you have 15-31 real life close friends and family, the game would play exactly as Light Box intended. But you'll be paired with the public, if not anonymous clan members, and the game becomes not fun. You'll see vast segments of land unused, home base defended to high heaven, and probably a maximum of two souls wandering the rest of the map unable to drop anything because 32/32 structures are currently in use back at home base.

I had plenty of games, in fact the majority of games the last few days, where both teams were aggressively pushing forward and there was consint action outside the bases. It's easy and fast to reclaim useless structures, and 3-5 good players can counter-act the actions of 3-5 shitty players. It's not a perfect system, and I hope LBI isn't done tweaking, but as time progressed I saw more and more public games being played as intended.

I apologize for my generalized hostility. It's just what the game tries to do isn't anything other than "here, have fun". My suggestions add needed elements to make it work, or rather, do what it tries to do.

Everything I proposed fits exactly into the core of this game's mechanics and lore and how it wants to be played, except it adds balance and creates motivation and teamwork. If that's not what the game is trying to do (it's not in its current state), then I'm not sure I want to play the MP.

So... like a clan.

HMMMMMMM

Like others in here, I had games with public mostly and yes I had one or two where I thought what on earth are you all doing?! but then as time progressed people seemed to get to grips with it and actually had some great bases built out in the field

None of the annoyances annoyed me enough to warrant not enjoying it, such as map design: I actually like them, and we have only seen 3 out of 10
weapons, we haven't seen them all
taking down hawks was a challenge, but I know there are other turrets to come which should help

there is still so much to see, and i am looking forward to it - I don't see it any different to when I started playing BF3, when I end up trying for the objectives pretty much on my own - it gets better

The beta did get better as time progressed and players started playing smarter. That said, if there's a load out that removes autoturrets and replaces beam turrets with flak turrets that is all I'm ever going to play with.

Right. As long as it's not random lists of people from your prefered site who are essentially the public that happen to be playing with you all the time.

But the game shouldn't NEED clan support to work and be fun.

Exactly. I am all about clan support in games, in fact it is infuriating when games don't offer clan support and simple things like setting up private rooms (Really EA you are going to make people rent a server for that!?!?).

However, the game needs to work in a public room with randoms as well, or else the game will never establish a community to create such clans. The fact of the matter is most people won't give this game 5 hours if the gameplay doesn't hook them in and they are getting killed by auto turrets and there are no bases outside of the home base. We saw it in the Beta, I would play games where my entire side would rage quit and we weren't even getting base raped. That's a big problem for this game.

Haha, hadn't paid any attention, but had doled the beta awhile back. Just started it up, let it dl a patch....oops, beta ended.

Should have started it up earlier...

The post has been added to the US Blog now

But what is interesting is the final image which shows somebody using the pistol whilst the bike is in motion (judging by the flames) - maybe a much needed tweak?

I just hope the SP isn't the MP maps with missions strewn about. I want to see things that feel like an epic campaign with some linearity.

Listen to this week's PlayStation Blogcast. They talk with Dylan Jobe for 15 minutes and he talks quite a bit about the SP campaign. It's a classically western 'brother vs brother' story that is "incredibly varied across the entire spectrum and that was very intentional. We wanted to keep the single player campaign very compact, very fluid from beat to beat, but constantly giving the player new stuff."
