I remember when I had Direcway/HughesNet and the pings were like 700 - 1000+ ms and thinking it was a physical limitation of having to travel all the way to a satellite and back.

38ms is way better than I expected. If they can get to 15ms to 30ms I might consider switching if the price and bandwidth limitations aren't as absurd as current satellite providers.

One of my friends received a notification for this and told me it was US $99/month + $500 for the dish and router. That's a bit steep for the 50-150Mbps they're able to hit now, but it'll be a different story when they can hit 1Gbps+.

Elon's been able to deploy his satellites and get the service up and running faster than Bell's been able to deliver FTTH around Montreal, their FTTN maxes out around 50Mbps in my part of the island.

Living in a rural area this past 2 years with only very slow internet available (3 mbs and it dies like twice a week) and terrible cell reception (at most 3g) I'd definitely welcome this.

So far I've taken advantage that my workplace has good internet and I just take my console/PC with me when there's something large I want to download. But it's pretty annoying

Our only source of internet at the house (very rural location) is through an LTE hotspot, which costs way too much. We need new options. I usually download things to watch etc when I drive into my office space in town.

Germany is getting it as well now, which is good for them considering their underdeveloped internet infrastructure. It's quite literally surrounded by nations offering gigabit speeds across their countries while especially lagging behind in mobile outside a couple of large cities.

I live in the Netherlands, and my ISP has a pathetic-ass maximum upload speed of 50 Mb/s on their gigabit downstream package. Regardless of how actual speeds are going to play out, extra competition will murder the companies that settled in on their markets. Not to mention my neighbors in Belgium who have data caps for no particular reason at all other than fuck you.
