Started playing LOZ: Wind Waker again

GSG Flash

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
Started playing again after like a year and a half. I created a new file and this is the first time I'm playing this with surround sound. I just rerealised how fucking amazing this game looks and plays. I was floored by the art direction the first time I ever played and again I floored by it again today even though it wasn't anything new. And the sound with surround sound is just incredible. So when was the last time you played Wind Waker?

Beautiful game... my favorite this gen :) .

The last time I played it was Dec/04... I'm missing some hearts and figurines...

I really like Wind Waker, and think it's awesome. My only two complaints was that sailing got really fucking tedious around the eight hour mark, and becomes mind-numbing during the tri shard quest and if you decide to go treasure chest huntin'. My second complaint is that the game really could have used those extra two dungeons, and as such the world was sort of incomplete without those East/West dungeons - I felt their absence, which was disappointing.

Overall, the artistic style was dazzling - pretty much unparalleled to this day - and the gameplay for nearly everything is as awesome and fluid as ever.

I must be the only one who loved the sailing.

I would literally just travel the seas in my boat for hours at a time, just taking in the scenery. I love watching the sunset, the stormclouds brewing, the waves picking up speed.

My favorite game this gen.

I loved the game through and through. The entire game. Easily one of my favorite games of the generation. The graphics, the music, the environments, everything...Just so epic. When The Wind Waker ended, I nearly cried. Such an awesome game.

Good game, but I felt that something was missing. The islands were too small is one thing. And Windfall Island was basicly the only village worth roaming in.

I'd play it again if I didn't have such a backlog. I was trying to complete the photo-log and got kinda lost 3/4th of the way.

I liked the game - but not that much, I think it simply was a good game, not more. It would have been a great game if there were more islands, more to discover. Actually I liked it more than OoT.

Hmm, last time I played WW was January of this year. I felt like beating Ganon again because I absolutely love the ending, which is one of the stronger points of the game, IMO. And I just felt like sailing around and exploring the world and then partaking in an auction or two.

I agree that the game could have used the East/West dungeons and that the islands were rather small with not that much to explore on them, and the Triforce shard quest was a pain in the ass, but the game was excellent and still one of my favorite GC games. I still listen to the music today because that is the strongest point in the game, for me. The celtic influence in the music is amazing. The gameplay is as great as ever, and for some reason, the sailing never became tediouis for me. Thinking about it now, I almost wish that the new LOZ was done in vain of WW, but oh well.

Awesome game, but there weren't enough dungeons and bosses.

other than that it was a mind blowing experiance

You're not alone! :D
I loved sailing as well...so peaceful and atmospheric, in a way, it reminded me of GTA...you could always discover some small mission to deal with or item to find...or you could just cruise around and admire the scenery.

Wind Waker has to be my favorite game this generation too. I went through it twice and wouldn't mind doing it again. That sailing has its ups and downs. I mean it was really tedious when I was trying to get through the game and going back and forth to get money to buy the maps just to find the maps to find the triforce pieces. But just sitting back listening to a baseball game relaxing sailing around finding shit was pretty fun. So you can look at it either way.

Main problem with the game for me was the lack of any difficulty. :( The new Zelda better be challenging, goddammit.

Still love it though. Especially the art, story, and ending.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that in my earlier post, but the game is way too damn easy. I am not kidding when I say I didn't die a single time. The difficulty was way too low and the enemies didn't do as much damage as they should have, but nonetheless, it's still a beautiful game.

Terrific game from a play, aesthetic, and artistic point of view. Great for kids too. In fact (and I hope this isn't considered a plug) it was GamerDad's launch review. Penned by that Dave Long guy who, I believe, is well known around these parts.

Great game, beautiful visuals which I am still a little aprehensive about them changing back, way too much fluff in place of much needed meat, however. The overworld and side bits were awful, challenge was non-existant, and a few more dungeons would've really been nice.

:lol

Pissing the pig off on your island was more deadly than fighting Ganon. :lol

Ha, you're right. I can't parry that damn pig, and it seems to have infinite HP. Cuckoo's of the new world? I think so.

The sad part is it's true. That damn pig won't stop chasing you until he's taken you down.

I started playing it again, and I stopped right after the taking Zelda to the underwater hyrule.

Too many bad memories from my first play to give me enough motivation to continue playing now.

i'm determined to play it to completion before realda comes out. i've made three attempts, but each has been less successful than the last, and it's been so long since the last one that i'll have to start over. the visuals are lovely, but the sailing is demoralizing, and i always end up tangled in boring subquests. i've recently purchased a set of gc component cables, so that provides some impetus.

Physically fighting Ganon in swordplay wasn't too hard, because Zelda basically helps you take him out... but when I played through to get all the video footage, I really rushed through everything and I actually died.

His third puppet form is probably as deadly as he gets. First time you play that, you either have impeccable timing or you get ran over a lot.

I loved the way Ganon's bird (the Helmarog King) was a reprise of Link to the Past's crab boss (the Helmasaur King). I loved the return of Ghoma, Stalfos, Hyrulian Knights... and I really loved the sand worm things (lanmolas?)

For me, the game is much closer to the pre-Ocarina of Time games (and by the looks of it this new one as well).

I'll be the first to admit it could have been longer and more difficult though.

That's the best part of the game. O_O

Lack of difficulty (excluding one fight with 4 or 5 heavy armored guys), small islands, small overall landmass, a very stupid and forced idea with Tingle "translating" your maps (totally unnecessary), too many fairy fountains, retarted Puppet Ganon boss fight (times 3!), stupid collect-a-thon photo game, this insane one-room dungeon with 60 or so floors, ARTIFICIAL and NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN A ZELDA linearity when you can't steer your ship off course through the first part of the game because Mr Lion says so (shame on you Nintendo), tremendous amount of rehashed bosses and puzzles, laughable Ganon's Tower with... even more re-rehashed bosses! (WTF? double shame on you Nintendo!), the "hit me 999 times!" mini game with grumps (OH. MY. GOD.) ...

yeah, this game has it flaws.

However this doesn't change the fact it's a motherfucking Zelda game and it's unbelievably GOOD.

I loved the sailing parts, the lonely submarines, great and fresh minigames (like the gliding one or letters sorting), the dungeons (Tower of Gods has an awesome atmosphere), the ultrafluid animations and combat system, the music, the final Ganon fight and the ending.

10+/10

When The Wind Waker ended, I nearly cried. Such an awesome game.

How in god's name did you nearly cry? Aside from it having the worst Zelda ending, all it showed was Link waving goodbye to everyone. I think your mother cuddled you too much when you were a child.

That part is awesome

the worst part is definately finding the triforce

When I first started playing, I couldn't bear playing anything after that temple with the mirrors with the girl. Such a shitty temple.

Now, I know I'm nearly to that point, so my mind is tellnig me to stop playing.

I'm replaying it again too, and I'm probably enjoying it moreso than last time. That said, It's probably one of the worst Zelda games, but to say that and then realize it's one of the best games this generation is really a testament to the quality of the series.

I think soundwave05 got it right when he said Zelda is like sex, even if it's bad, it's still damn good.

Forcing you to go to Forsaken Fortress and then the locations of the three pearls is no different than say.. Link to the Past forcing you to do the pearls in order (in order to get the needed items). After the Gods Tower
Hyrule
sequence, you can do the other two in any order you want. I think thats what they probably had in mind for any subsequent (east/west) dungeons that might have been added too. And also, refighting bosses in Ganon's final domain isn't new either.

It was bound to happen someday, the day Zelda designers figured out you could combine blocks AND mirrors.

I liked all of the meaty, full sized dungeons though. 'cept for the first one of course, the Island Fortress thing.

I missed the traditional character fly-by or whatever, and thought the bubble credits were very lame, but the credits music rocked.

And the whole part from finding Ganon at Zelda's bedside to killing him and talking with the King was absolute gold. I wouldn't say it's the worst Zelda ending at all.

I loved sailing, specially at night and in the pass of night to day. It was like the dream of a kid.

Maybe is because my love for the sea, but I enjoyed every second of sailing.

This is true

God I was so fucking pumped for that final fight. I managed to lose Ganondorf, and was looking for him frantically. I turn around and see him walking through one of the columns of water with his swords at his side, and I swear to God that shit gave me chills

And I almost cried out 'LINK REACH HARDER' when the King stretched his hand out

I just started playing it for the first time (couple weeks ago) and I really like how you can pick up the weapons your enemies drop, I really hope the next zelda has that feature as well.

I stopped playing LOZ after that tree dungeon or whatever.

You guys are really really really making me want to start up again :lol

WHAT?! Damn, that is way too damn early. Hell, that's the second freaking dungeon of the game. You really should start playing it again. The game gets better exponentially from there.

I say this in every non bashy LoZ WW thread, and I'll say it again.

The humanization of Ganondorf's character was FANTASTIC. The entire last half hour (from just before the Puppet Ganon fights to the every end of the credits) are some of the best gaming EVER, and a particularly illuminating and powerful moment for the Zelda saga specifically, and gaming generally.

Awesome stuff.

"Ughnn... Heh Heh... The wind... It is blowing..."

i stopped playing when i reached that dungeon (?) where the wind blows you out of the entrance and you have to have the steel boots to get in.

that was about 4 months ago. i shall be continuing today :D GAF rox like that

Ahh, good ol' TWW. I played through it all last year about this time again (one of the few games I played through completely more than once). I posted a pretty lengthy topic about my feelings on it, and then then Classic GAF died. >:(

Anyway, I still consider the ending to be absolutely fantastic, and even the highlight of the game.

EDIT: And when I was fighting
Ganon
the second time around, I remembered him being so much easier. I got schooled about 3-4 times because I was so cocky (had a revival fairy thing just because, and I purposely made him kill me once).

I'm actually playing it right now for the first time, but i thought the whole reason for lack of islands is explained in the story.
the rain floods and how the current islands are the montain tops etc etc.

I haven't played it for a while, but I saw a speen run of someone beating it in 7 hours or something.

Pros:
- The toon shading really was great for this type of game. The enemy, character, and atmosphere designs were excellent.
- Going down to Old Hyrule the first time was one of the coolest things ever. To see everything frozen in black and white was just creepy.
- Speaking of cool things, the final battles with Ganon were just awesome. The dialogue and even the final battle (even if it was easy) was just cool.
- The music was great, as usual: Dragon Roost, and the Gods Temple and Wind Temple boss battles are my favorites.
- Loved the homages to previous Zeldas: Ocarina of Time (story), Link to the Past (Helamoroc/Helmasaur King), Zelda I (getting 8 Triforce Shards)

Cons:
- Lack of any difficulty. I felt absolutely no worries of dying throughout the entire game (even on my first try). Quarter heart damage abound! And yeah, it's true that the Outset pig is by far the deadliest in the game. :lol
- Sailing (and finding the charts) wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take two minutes just to get through a single square. Why does it take so damn long? The travel song helps, but you still have to do sailing to an island 3 squares down or something. I usually flip TV channels when I'm sailing, though.
- The temples kind of bored me. The Forbidden Forest especially, with boring music and lackluster atmosphere. I also didn't like the two teamwork ones where you had to keep playing that song and getting them to stand with a mirror or plant a tree in most of the rooms.
- I hate cliffhanger endings.

Too bad to actually get to that part, you had to find the damn triforce pieces.

*shrugs* I had four of them before the game even required me to find them. I actually EXPLORE in my Zelda games, not play through a Gamefaqs/strategy guide filter. (Not suggesting that you do, just sayin'.)

Hahah, that guy was awesome. I loved the voice work for this game.

HHHHAAAAAOOOOOWWWWWWWooorrrrhhh???

TSAY!?

The last time I played it? With my girlfriend. I was helping her through the dungeon with that girl from the Rito tribe. I distinctly remember it because I remember calling her a pervert for looking up Link's tunic while she was climbing the vines in the huge cylinder room.

Great game.
