What's an "earth" wire? Do you mean a ground? Yeah, well, if that's what you mean I never heard of one being connected to exposed plumbing like that. I'm not sure if I'd want to turn on a faucet with an electrical wire attached to it.

In some languages their word for earth ground/grounded just translates as earth. :/

At least they are smiling. I sure as hell wouldn't be.

Its a disgrace that the worlds best have to put up with this. Sure, its pretentious to ask for 5* accommodation and amenities, but basic things like water, hygiene, privacy etc should be absolutely non-negotiable.

They are just people who run fast or kick leather balls. They do get double toilets which is one toilet more than the common man gets (who does actual work).

It's not unusual to refer to that wire as 'earth' in the UK... but we call it 'ground' too.

It's also fairly common to see one attached to pipes, pretty sure we have one near the boiler... but to have it right by the outlet is odd.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
"The realization of such a project is an enormous victory for the entire country," he said. "As we say in Russia, victors don't get blamed."

Their official response to all the criticism is "Victors don't get blamed"?

The country is run by sociopaths.

Wellll, I've heard the saying: "history is written by the winner." Could be a similar saying.

Sure, it's the same thing.

And it's just as fucked up a response to the complaints as what they said.

Yea it's not the best thing they could have said, but...who's gonna remember that vividly in a few years other than "haha remember the messed up olympics in russia?" So i kind of see their point. :/

bitch I'm taking calls.
I hope no one is lying or exaggerating because these stories are comedy gold.
That's Ivan Watson. He's a fairly well known CNN correspondent based in Istanbul. That blue check-mark on Twitter also means he's a verified account, so it really is him saying that.

Team Canada's hockey team will be staying in rooms like this.....lol

Not sure if mentioned...in the Vice video that went up today they got a look into one of these rooms, oddly the one they were shown only had two beds, with lots of room between them. In that same video the General Manager of the Olympic Village claims that the rooms are designed for 2 people, and are so much bigger and better than the standards of the Olympic committee.

And this is why you don't give the Olympics to developing nations. I thought we learned that when we had them in Atlanta.

I understand why the IOC and others want to spread the Olympic love around, but let's be honest, the Olympics should just rotate between these locations:

Winter:
Canada
USA
Germany
maybe Japan or Korea

Summer:
USA
UK
France
maybe Canada or another EU nation

Yeah it's nice to say that a developing nation gets them, but as we've learned from the past, most Olympics end up costing more than they bring in, and it's just an international dick-measuring contest combined with tonnes of bribes. Let the same places host them regularly so we can re-use the existing facilities and save some money, and that way they cost less and are less of a big deal, financially.

Yeah, you don't normally see it, but there's almost always one right behind the wall for safety. I still wouldn't want to use that one though. :D

I would confine Canada to winter and not Summer for hosting. Calgary and Vancouver were successes (winter) while Montreal 1976 (Summer) was a cluster fuck

If anyone's interested in the linguistic aspect of this, in Russia it is common place to advertise a product as being 'in assortiment', for example, 'cake in assortiment', 'lemonade in assortiment', etc, which refers to the fact that there are different flavours of the product available. Obviously it was poorly transcribed into English and shortened to 'ass.', leading to hilarious results

Junior, please.
OK, so just to give some perspective, today I spoke with a guy who is part of Canada's Olympic team and is actually in the Olympic village right now.

He said that actually, the news reports that are coming out are way overblown, and it's not as bad as the media would have you think. Obviously there are issues, but the "media types" are really looking for things to complain about.

The Olympic village is of a good standard and they don't have any complaints. I could see his room on Skype and it didn't look bad at all.

I'm sure there are issues and a lot of hotels probably are still working on renovations, but from the athlete's point of view, it's totally fine. He also said that he feels very safe right now, no signs of any trouble.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust any tweets coming from a joke account that didn't originate from somewhere more trustworthy.

Yeah. I started following that account and realized that a good chunk of their stuff was fake.

Apparently they ran out of pillows so the employees and staff had to give their own pillows for the athletes few days ago:

Translation:

“ATTENTION, DEAR COLLEAGUES!

Due to an extreme shortage of pillows for athletes who unexpectedly arrived to Olympic Village in the mountains, there will be a transfer of pillows from all apartments to the storehouse on 2 February 2014. Please understand. We have to help the athletes out of this bind.”

Gaf, please understand.
