Well, you can always try to sell the 1/2 extra games you got from the silver/gold card to soften the blow. I'll admit I paid less, but 20$ isn't all that much, surely?

yea it's not so bad but it's a lot less exciting since I really only want two of those games :I

also the silver rewards are kinda shady and don't mention thief :/

Since were about 10 days from Winter sale, I thought it would be a nice idea to have a Steam specific GOTY award.

<snip>

I'm guessing Kentucky Route Zero isn't eligible? Only the first two episodes have been released and there are five in total, meaning there's not even half a game yet.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

The same could be said of Early Access games which are specifically allowed. I'd say it's eligible.

Let me kick this off then:

Steam GOTY Voting

5. Rogue Legacy - A randomly generated metroidvania with an addictive progression system.
4. Bioshock Infinite - One of the best stories in video games with some of the most disappointing gameplay.
3. Spelunky - Endlessly replayable platforming goodness.
2. Sonic & All-Star Racing Transformed - Hands down my favorite kart racer released so far. The transforming vehicles isn't a gimmick.
1. Starbound - As a huge fan of Terraria this seems even in this early beta phase to take the concept to the next level.

Apotheon has an interesting style.
Currently 33% off and including a copy of Capsized.

I'd forgotten about this. I'll jump on it after the Winter Sale.

I see how it is..

Can I still activate Fable III if I install it? I have it but never downloaded it (I assume I can still download it from Steam's servers?). What about the co-op, is it P2P or server side? Does it still work? Sorry if I'm not making much sense here but I'm still not 100% sure on the effects of GFWL's impending doom coupled with game removal. I'm at work right now so I can't download and install it just to test.

I installed and played through it a few weeks ago no problem. When you launch the game you get a couple gfwl dlc codes in a steam popup that wouldn't activate, but the game itself activated and worked fine for me.

Since early access games are allowed, KRZ should be okay.

Huzzah! Since I don't want to continue with the game until it's complete, I'll just lazily quote my Steam review. ;)

Steam GOTY Voting

1. Kentucky Route Zero

Prior to my previous post I was under the impression that the third act had recently been released. Must have been a dream. :( The only other 2013 titles I've played to completion this year are BioInf and Tomb Raider, but all things considered I don't think they're quite GOTY material.

Is it at all possible to get funds off your Steam Wallet?

I am having a huge Starbound itch right now, but I have 4 euros in my PayPal account, and I am currently raising funds in my Steam Wallet. There is no way I am going to make enough to get 14 euros to get the game. I can get it however off traders for much less, but I need the funds in my PayPal.

If someone would like to help and they want to buy a game from Steam now, I can get it for you and gift it through steam, and you can wire me the money through PayPal.

You might notice a...ah, trend in my nominees. If we were talking all indies, they'd be more diverse, but anyway, my choices:

Steam GOTY Voting

5. The Stanley Parable
A game first and foremost for gamers, playing with and subverting our ingrained expectations, with a fantastic narrative and great sense of humor and wit
4. Spelunky
Its cute veneer hides a challenging game of quick reactions, strategy, and overwhelming odds. The platforming is tight, survival is tough, and it's the little details that make the game so memorable, from the human sacrifices and the shopkeepers to the infamous reaper
3. Neo Scavenger
One of the few turn-based roguelikes I've enjoyed, and set in brutal gritty apocalyptic world where life is short and cheap, and death can come from any angle, from the raiders tracking your footsteps to the cold night air. The combat is my favorite aspect; it may be turn based but that doesn't mean every conflict feels at tense as something ripped from The Road
2. Teleglitch
My first roguelike (yes, it's roguelike!) and a brutal frantic game where every decision is life and death and every bullet counts
1. Project Zomboid
A game I'd been waiting to play for years, and it does not disappoint. DayZ may represent the human on human violence of the genre better and The Walking Dead may have the emotional edge, but PZ is an story generator, providing tales of survival and foolish deaths, of desperate last stands and incredible emergent moments, that rival those seen in the best zombie fiction

Honorable Mentions: The Swapper, Starbound, Papers Please

I just bought a silver one from one russian dude, we'll see, I'd rather risk 8 bucks and lose 'em than buy the full thing for 20 for some reason lol. unfortunately I wouldn't get sr4 which I wanted to gift here in gaf but well...

since I didn't play many new games this season and most importantly I haven't gotten around spending enough time with knock-knock and hate plus, this list is kinda moot but...

Steam GOTY Voting

5. Dust: I liked pretty much everything about this game, but didn't really love anything. still pretty fun sorry! demoted to honorable mentions :p

5. Bio Infinite: it's pretty much a wasted opportunity to do something cool with gameplay but story and world are really cool so why the hell not

4. Hate Plus: christine love just doing what she does suits me perfectly

3. Fez: fez was really cool but it made me feel dumb and I don't need any more of that in my life

2. Gone Home: probably biased since I played this last week but I'm a sucker for coming of age stories, so you got me

1. KR0: coolest david lynch shit ever in videogames

Honorable Mentions: the swapper. honestly I would add it to the list if I could have 6 games but since we can't c'est la vie. dust, it's a nice game but didn't fall in love with it :|

I think Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite is my favorite AI partner, usually I hate those silly escorting crap but it feels like the other way around in bioshock.

5. NBA 2K14 - As a huge basketball fan, I play this game daily and even though there are barely any changes from last year's version, the new animations are nice
4. Spelunky - One of the few rogue games I like, fun to play for a few minutes and see how far you get
3. PAC-MAN™ Championship Edition DX+ - The definitive version of Pac-Man
2. Sonic & All-Star Racing Transformed - I haven't played a kart racing game this fun since Crash Team Racing and it's great to just hop on and play every once in a while
1. Final Fantasy VIII - My favorite game of all time is now on Steam!

waiting patiently for either a new thread or the okay to use this one for my GOTY voting.

RPS's first look at No Man's Sky, with more information. It's not multiplayer at all.
Hype increasing logarithmically.

But the galaxy is the same between everyone and actions of “significance” will be shared. If you kill a single bird, that won’t be shared. If you make an entire species of bird extinct, then those creatures will blink out of existence for everyone.

Griefers are gonna exploit the hell outta that.

4. Pacman CEDX+

1. Deadly Premonition

Well that was easy, as I those are the only 2013 games I have played more than few hours. Deadly Premonition might be an old game and buggy, but it's easily the best game I have played this year. Rayman Legends I only have few hours in, but I LOVED Origins and I expect it to be at the same level. Still have to finish Rogue Legacy (on the final boss..).

you mean the potion dispenser? all she did was make the game easier.

I would have much preferred if I had to keep her from getting killed

RE: GOTY voting.

For those new to GAF, GAF has a GOTY voting thread every year. This year will be no different. We do our best to encourage discussion in the thread and it's a multi-platform thread. Of course you're welcome to just vote for Steam games in that thread, but you're also welcome to include other games. Cheesemeister and timetokill have that thread wired up so that votes are automatically parsed and processed by bot which helps ensure accuracy and helps them generate stats, like most voted game per genre or per platform. A few years ago Durante also wrote code so you could calculate which other voters had the closest ballots to you, which is great for getting recommendations. It's really cool.

So while you're welcome to run this Steam-specific GOTY thread in here (it would definitely be a no on creating a new thread since the consequences of that would be pretty dire since every platform would want its own thread and people would be less likely to talk to each other), I have to discourage people from bunkering down in this thread and not participating in the general GOTY thread when the time comes. Most of my GOTY list will probably be available on Steam, but I'll still be voting in the general thread. I'd also add that if people vote in this thread, it's going to cause a massive derail and make it very very hard to discuss anything else in the thread. So keep that in mind in terms of the signal-to-noise ratio and stuff.

“There are some things that you could do for the wrong reasons. You could broadcast certain information for the wrong reasons. But generally people are playing together cooperatively to the benefit of everyone. You can be a dick in the game if you want, but it has less point and less value.”

I think for most dicks the value of being a dick is just to be a dick.

Unfortunately I'm not able to make better choices as I was fairly limited on time and games to play as this was a rough year. Looking forward to what wonders steam brings through 2014

Mind if I quote this in the Vita thread? There was talk of a Vita GotY voting of such. I still plan on voting in the GAF GotY year thread, but a system/console specific vote would be interesting if only to see what the GAF community liked the most for that system/console.

ok steam site just got set to romanian for some reason lol

I've been having odd problems with that too. During the Autumn sale, I could see other peoples wishlists and basket contents, so I gave a few people random gifts. It was rather hilarious. All of them seemed to be from the same region in the UK, not Romania though!
