It seems likely that they'll start it on a Monday, so it's either the 25th or the 2nd. I'm going with the 2nd (because that's after I get paid).
Qunatum Conundrum is coming out the 21st, and it's pretty much a given that no independent or smaller budget games are going to be released during the summer sale. I remain confident it'll be from the 24th-26th.

I hope it's the 25th since I'm off next week. I can actually play any of the games I buy.
How's the multiplayer scene in Binary Domain? Hope it hits 75% off on the sale.
Hey guys, it's now time to upgrade to Service pack 2 on Windows XP since Steam will no longer support SP1

Non-existent. You need to be 6 people to even start a round of free for all... takes a lot of patience and time to get a game going. How's the multiplayer scene in Binary Domain? Hope it hits 75% off on the sale.

Puzzle agent 2 was released on June 30th of last year.
-if anyone is going to upgrade from XP SP1, here is a Microsoft support page on upgrading XP Service Packs
I'm pretty sure that anyone who can figure out how to install Steam can figure out how to update to SP2.

even if they haven't updated until now?
Today?
lol, quite optimistic!
We havent even had reports of games updating for achievements yet.
Or maybe Ookami just knows something we don't.
OOKAMI SPILL THE BEANS
WHAT DID YOU SEE
What I think he saw.
my pure soul.
why.
Historically it just starts. They send out a PR blast with big capital letters "For immediate release: STEAM SUMMER SALE ON NOW" which causes me to fall down or swerve off the road exclaiming "Oh shit!" nearly everytime. Will Valve announce the start of the sale a couple of days before it happens or will we just wake up one day to the surprise of cheap games? I can't remember how it worked for the Holiday Sale
Some people didn't want to switch because they viewed SP2 as being even worse than SP1.
Valve says: "Our data shows less than 1 percent of those on Steam are running XP Service Pack 1", seems accurate yet inevitable seeing how mush more secure Win7 is over XP.
I know it's not similar at all, but the wording reminds me of EA's 'our data shows less than 1 percent of online activity on these slightly old games, so we're going to cut their online multiplayer support' schtick.
Though to be fair, being "honest" in Valve's case typically means "Saying something in blog posts a few times a year". Valve feels like one of the most silent companies to me. =PIt's amazing what a history of being honest with your customers will do to change public opinion.

I just remembered I'm taking a vacation to Hawaii soon.
At the beginning of July.
Right after the summer sale most likely ends.
It's happened before. If the sale is going to happen in June it needs to happen a week or so before July 2nd since Penny Arcade's 3rd game is slated to come out that day on steam. That's assuming they don't want any new releases occurring during the sale.

Cue the "Yeah but you weren't going to play your new games anyway" replies.
