Haha I rarely go to gamingside and when I finally do, first thing I see is people hating on Half-Life 2... think I will stay here in the safety of SteamGAF.:D

Dota 2 is dead, move over Valve.

What's the appeal of super-scripted missione with subpar open world combat in a game with expensive physics engines?

The story-telling, which focuses on being a biting critique and satire of the American Dream. GTA4 may have been better at that than GTA5, but it's certainly one of the best parts of the game for me, and losing that would be tragic.

I don't give a shit about PUBG but I look forward to all the threads praising it if it makes it to a Sony platform.

I think console gamers need a game like PUBG. After watching GB stream the new COD WW2 beta man that multiplayer looked like hot garbage. Its the same stale shit casual gamers playing for years now. That and Battlefield which is doing the same shit Battlefield 2 did on PC like 12 years ago. There is so little innovation for AAA multiplayer games at this point..I think games like PUBG are needed to shake things up. At least on the competitive side of things. Still gonna be interesting to see how well it sells on consoles.

So I have a question. I'm currently playing Dead Space 3 in Bordeless windowed mode.
The game's Vsync forces 30FPS (Even when set to 60Hz). I have the FPS counter in game running and it's always sitting in 160+ FPS.

Will this be a problem for a 1060 6GB? In the sense of it impacting the life of the card? I know people run games at 144FPS and such. But the frame counter doesn't seem to have any sort of cap. The menu's for example were like in the thousands of FPS.

I know that Window Borderless forces Vsync and such so it should be fine overall right?

Just use RTSS or SpecialK or Nvidia Inspector to lock the framerate to 60 fps.
(If you have insufficient cooling, you can fry your card if you're running it for long periods of time at 100% usage)

If you are not having heat issues then it's fine. Borderless window applies triple buffering but does not lock your fps. You will get lower temps by locking the game to a lower fps.

You can use RTSS to lock to 60.

Ok cool I forgot all about that. Forced Nvidia to do it's own Vsync on the game now so it's sitting at 60FPS now. Thanks.

Even though I bother less and less with posting there, I couldn't help but chime in.

"I totally get what made the game so great at the time but I don't think it's all that and I know I'm playing it 10 years later but I totally would've had the same opinion back then because I'm positive that I'm capable of ignoring the dozens of games I've played in the meantime that have emulated and perfected the formula to provide a completely unbiased opinion."

Fucking hell.

This happens with a lot of classics tbh.

"I wasn't there but I can totally tell you that this is just a reputation built on nostalgia over the years, it really wasn't that good".

While this holds true for some games, it certainly doesn't for HL2.
Hell, it's funny that just a few hours ago I watched DF Retro's HL2 episode and the feeling of awe I got from every second of my first playthrough instantly came back to me.

Everything was so amazing, the visuals/atmosphere, the characters/writing/acting, the physics and that friggin' gravity gun... what an experience.

I'm completely out of the loop regarding anything involving competitive MP, but it's interesting how some of these games become so huge so fast, and others like Drawn to Death and Lawbreakers die a quick death.

Gordon Freeman suffered a severe brain injury while working at Black Mesa. As a result he almost never talks and is highly susceptible to suggestion. His capability to experience emotions was crippled.

However, his injury had several positive effects. He gained preternatural spatial awareness and is no longer hampered by fear, anxiety, and such frailties of the human spirit. In short, he inadvertently became a killing savant. Much to the benefit of humanity I might add.

Since he already had the requisite clearances he was kept on as an expendable guinea pig. "Do this Gordon. Wear this Gordon. Push that thing Gordon." He was the true experiment on that fateful day.

This is why Gordon's "friends" always talk at him and not to him. He is never really queried about his own desires but is treated as a living tool. He is given simple tasks fraught with extreme danger as one would assign chores to a child. He has limited agency of action and even self; scientists will inject substances into Gordon as they decide that is what is best for him. It is also why so many turn and smile at him, they are maintaining the dominance of their suggestions.

The developers wanted you to slowly understand Gordon's nature which is why he is often isolated and then contrasted with other entities, such as Dog. When Dog shows emotive behavior Gordon remains silent and unmoved. Dog is a representation of what Gordon was, juxtaposed with a robotic form to emphasize Gordon's new nature. This is also why the Vortigaunts and many humans fetishize Gordon's nature. He is not a man to them but a concept, an idea, a methodology for success. He is a thing. Not a man. He is the Freeman.

Prey is freaking great, but am I not supposed to transform into other objects? Or maybe I got the wrong impression cause there haven't been anything like it two hours into the game.

RTSS is slightly better than NVIDIA Inspector (or CP), as it has slightly lower (2-3 frames) input lag.
Oh ok

That's an ability you can choose if you want. It'll let you get into a lot of places. I personally played only as a human so I never needed it. The game was pretty good about not discriminating from play styles.

-PN 03 was style over substance
-Evil Within was on par with RE6 in terms of being really uneven.

Everything else was good though for sure

So throwing out 2 random names that have nothing to do with the subject is sarcasm now?

Edit: fair enough on the sneaky edit, I too wasn't a big fan of Cliff's constant OW digs.

Do you get it now?

EDIT: Yeah, my bad, I decided I had to add something later to make it easier to understand.

the pc multiplayer scene right now is so good

i don't play any other game than league but i feel like most people have their needs met

Children of the Zodiarcs was a funnish romp. Final Fantasy Tactics mixed with Baten Kaitos, a good soundtrack, but just a bit too much melodrama (MOOD SWING).

Liked how cautious you had to be due to the offensiveness of the numbers game, but the end kinda dipped a bit when it became "waves of dudes with great dice".

It'd be a very good sale game at $15 or so if you're into SRPGs.

I get that he was being an edgelord about it, but that quote doesn't even seem that off honestly.

LawBreakers seems a lot more Quake/Unreal Tournament to me, while Overwatch is pretty much just Team Fortress 2.

While I kind of agree, I think this might actually be the other way around. I.e. the console audience is just more casual on average and it also doesn't help you can't really aim properly with a controller. So the games they get tend to be built around those that.

Here's hoping.
