STEAM | December 2014 - Read OP for winter sale questions

So how's Lara Croft and Temple of Osiris? Haven't heard much about, and rather than be worried about the gameplay, I'm more worried about the perfomance.

Dammit, I only have 85 games and I'm already suffering from the "I don't know what to play" syndrome. I just stare at the list thinking "Yeah, I could finish this one I guess" until I glance at another title I could finish but don't even launch...

What have you done to me?! D=

I know that feeling with twice the games. I did jump back in to motor for the fourth or fifth time. I am going to grit up and play through it. Just wish it supported wide screen.

It's a bummer Yakuza 2 is going for a pretty penny on the market. I just want to play through all of them before Yakuza 5 comes out :(

So how's Lara Croft and Temple of Osiris? Haven't heard much about, and rather than be worried about the gameplay, I'm more worried about the perfomance.

I posted some thoughts a few pages back. Gameplay's good, length is pretty short, performance is a bit worrying. I've got a 7970 and I couldn't max it out. I got 60fps/1080p without too much trouble though.

4 and a half hours. That's how long it took me to finish Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. That's a little on the short side, though to be fair Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light has a listing on 'how long to beat' of six hours. And sure, there's post game stuff to do, there's scores to beat, challenges to best, loot to obtain, co-op to do, but it still felt a bit short, and could probably have done with maybe another five or so levels.

What I actually got was good though. The levels were well designed, though the puzzles and challenge rooms were a bit on the easy side. Don't know if they're trickier when you play them in co-op though. Combat was pretty smooth, with a good mix of weapons and mobility.

Performance was a bit of an issue though. I've got a 7970, and I couldn't max out the specs without my FPS plunging to the 30's. Dropping the AA down to FXAA mostly solved the issue, with it sticking to 60fps pretty much the whole game, though there were a few drops down to 57fps or so. Graphically the game looked great though.

these pathologic kickstarter updates in screenplay form continue to be awesome

Anna: A chimney. Well, it’s, like… Finish to start, right? Houses are usually built from the ground up, so I thought…

Peter: Yes, but is a chimney really the end of a house? Or is it a new beginning?

Anna: I’ve no idea, I’m new here.

(Pause.)

Anna: We’ve also studied parabolic architecture with Meethos. It’s like usual architecture, only with more parabolas. See? A parabolic house.

(Peter studies the house for a while. It is, indeed, parabolic.)

Peter (confidently): It won’t work. Parabolas have no end. (Seems to remember something.) Did someone say “cookies”?

Liu: I did. Several days ago.

Peter (confused): Days?.. I thought…

Liu (laughs): It’s artistic license. In reality everything we perform here on stage happened over the course of several weeks.

Ivan: In reality I’m not dead.

Liu: You’re also not dead onstage.

(Ivan dies back. There is a small silence.)

i love how ice pick lodge manages to give you your money's worth even in the kickstarter updates

why must pathologic be so far away

edit: also when they start talking mechanics i just i just can't ;_;

I think I’ve got some neat ideas for quest development, that won’t change the original vision for the game, but can make it more robust. What if there was, say, a rumor system that allowed the player to kinda guess what quests lie ahead of him? That would encourage communicating with NPCs and generally exploring, and it would also help us get rid of certain game-isms—I mean, sometimes it’s quite unrealistic that everyone invites you via letters any time they want to have a chat. We’ll make it subtler. What do you think?

that's so fucking amazing omg ;_;

Finished Never Alone - game #46 of the year (thanks CosmicQueso for this unexpected gift).

Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) was developed in collaboration with the Iñupiat, an Alaska Native people and Its story, narrated entirely in Inupiaq, is based around Alaskan indigenous folklore.

You play as a young girl whose village is hit by a blizzard. And so she sets on a journey to find the source of it. Along the way you find a fox that will aid you by calling the spirits that help you get to places you wouldn't be able to reach by yourself and solve a few puzzles. The game offers 2 ways to play, you can either play solo and control both characters or with local coop each person can control the girl while the other the fox.

The game plays pretty much like Trine but it is much simpler at least in single player.

The visuals look beautiful and show how much the developers cared to tell this story and about these indigenous people's culture. In every stage you will also find some owls (which are not very hidden) that will unlock cultural insights vignettes. These will provide more information on the Iñupiat and how the elements of their folklore were put into the game.

While the game is a little short, the charming tale makes you want to finish it.

I took several screenshots of it and those on my friend's list will be able to see them. I only wish Steam would let me specify the order of the screenshots being uploaded when you do so in a large batch.

I'm so torn on pre-ordering DOA5. On the one hand, I have no fighting games on my Steam account, and I enjoyed playing DOA2 way back in the day. On the other, I will probably not play it much and I am annoyed by their pre-order tiers. On the third hand, I can get it cheaper now than I probably will be able to again for like a year >.>

The origin insider page is the gift that keeps on giving.

Marston has the advantage at Horseshoes and mule wrangling, simply because Gordan has never seen a horse and mule before being a city folk, but Gordan has the advantage at Poker (silent poker face) and arm wrestling (years of crowbar use). After a tie, they both get drunk in Mexico.

I'm sure one of the Total Wars already was on Linux a long time back

Never an official release. Just simply updates or notes from the developers to help support the game using Wine on Linux.

Technically Sega Swirl was the first SEGA game for Linux, though never officially released since no one touched ALP/Palm OS.

Has anyone had trouble installing the new Lara Croft game ? Whenever I go to install it it just says preparing files and then times out. I haven't been able to install it yet. Every other game I've tried works perfectly fine.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
It's tuesday, guys.

It still blows my mind that Valve still has these server down times.

And I'll probably say this every week on Tuesday afternoon until they don't.

Beta Update
Greetings loyal AITD-ers,

We have been alerted to the fact that conflicting dates on our product pages have caused confusion on the dates of our Beta program. Our sincerest apologies for any confusion. In our efforts to deliver the best possible gameplay experience, we are working hard to make changes on both the single player and multiplayer experiences for the game.

The Alone in the Dark: Illumination Beta will NOT be launching today. We are putting another round of polish on the title through the holidays in order to deliver a series of epic Beta events in January, giving us a final opportunity to get feedback and guidance from our core Alone in the Dark community.

We're working now on additional exclusive bonuses as a thank you to our supporters for your pre-orders and your enthusiasm. We look forward to sharing more about the game as we head into the winter holidays.

Again, our sincerest apologies for the mix-up. We will have some great new content to offer our “Eldritch Edition” pre-order customers that we hope will make up for it.
