Steam Deck |OT| Nintendo Switch 2

This device is incredible. Just got mine today and been using it all day setting things up. Also got gfn set up and it's flawless. Games look and run flawless. Only complaint I'd have for the device is it takes long to charge it.

I feel like this thing is kind of a rebirth for my love for gaming. Old games feel like a new experience almost. I don't think I'd be able to go back to a console. There's something special about being able to play great looking games right in the palm of your hands.

It took a while to get use to the controls but it feels like butter now. Love how this thing feels. Very comfortable controller.

Don't miss out on EmuDeck and if you are a Playstation guy Chiaki-ng.

Makes the Deck sooo versatile.

I've had the Deck since release and set it up once when these apps were still pretty roug. I used the device until last week like it was set up. This week I reset and formatted everything and set it up again - and man, a lot has changed. The setup, usage and ease of use has improved sooo much.

Edit:
Very good guide for setting up EmuDeck

Think I'm going to flip my PS5 and go back to a Steam Deck again :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The PS5 is pretty nice but I'm not keeping hold of it just for GTA when I'll need to pay £50 a year to access the online.

I don't know whether I should buy a 64gb refurb for £249 when they're next available or just wait for a Deck 2 at this point. Seems a 2027 release may be likely.

Will just be as a companion for my S2 which will get most of my time.

Keep an eye on other handhelds too. With Steam OS being easily installed there might be THE one to come along that has everything you want. I am keeping my options open as the next generation of them release.

I bought my deck exactly a year ago and sold my PS5. The deck literally got me back into gaming since with the PS5 I was not interested what was being offered. I think ill wait another year or so and then get a PS5 again, used prefferably and then pick up on some of these bigger games that will pile up but when I had it, I felt like I was playing 3-4 games max. I was there for the PS4 day one so literally anything offered on PS+ I already played if it was worth it.

Will do but Valve's customer service reputation does some heavy lifting for me, especially against companies like Asus. If push came to shove (to play GTA 6) I think I'd rather install Windows on a Deck 2.

I mean.... ...lock yourself out of a portion of the game? If someone feels online is important, they should definitely include that in their evaluation of where they want to play it.
It was more like a joke, nobody "needs" to pay to play a game. There's always a choice blawblawblaw
But hey, Banjo64 Banjo64 wants to buy a Deck, so this is a good thing!

I had an Oled but sold it. I thought games like SoT would be just as good on PS5 but there's something incredible about sitting on my sofa and going on a 3 hour pirate bender whilst my missus sits next to me and watches crap TV that can't be replicated on PS5.

I play my PS5 via Steam Deck while she is watching K-Drama

Totally agree. I played Persona 4 on the Vita so when P5 came out and I bought it on the PS5, it just wasnt clicking. On a deep sale I got it for steam to play it on the SD and that was it, some games just dont go down as well on a big screen. Same for Balatro...I got over 100hrs on SD but when I played it on XsX, i was like whatever.

Was playing Chrono Trigger under emulation at the airport on my OLED and battery life was reported to be over 7 hours. Amazing.

Playing some old indie games like Bomber Crew and Horizon Chse that I bought years ago on the Switch. I really have to stop myself from rebuying them on the SteamDeck.

What's the point in getting it then

If I had to guess, playing games that are not online.

Got the Deck in Feb 2024. Since then I have sold my Switch, sold my PS5, and played way more games in one year than I did in probably the last 5 years combined.

I got Tempest 4k on sale 80% off

It needs a little tinkering for the music to work with the current proton

Go into desktop mode, then rename this folder in the install directory:

Tempest 4000\Win7-8\Assets\Sounds\Tracks_xwma
to
Tempest 4000\Win7-8\Assets\Sounds\Tracks_xwma-old

to remove the buggy video
Tempest 4000\Win7-8\Assets
and change ATARI.mp4 to ATARI-old.mp4

This will force the game to use ADPCM music tracks, which will work fine. You should use the standard (not Windows 10) version when launching. Game seems to run perfectly after this change.

Finally got around to installing and configuring Chiaki-ng on my OLED Steamdeck and it's amazing. I was really surprised by the video quality and response times. It felt like native play. Games look gorgeous on that OLED display.

Lil bit of spam here, trying out my game on the Steam Deck.

The low battery consumption is great news, seems like it'll be playable for around 4 or 5 hours.

You made that?
Yeah! Well I'm on it, still a long way from having a demo but it's coming together nicely.

Cool thing is that with the Steam Deck I can just drop the .exe wherever, add it to Steam, set it to work with Proton Experimental and shit just works! Very neat for testing stuff.

That's awesome man. Keep us in the loop. I'd love to see the progress.

Just started playing Cyberpunk on my SD and was surprised to see it has a dedicated Steamdeck optimised graphic preset. It's possibly the best graphics I've seen on SD to date. It looks gorgeous and runs surprisingly well.

Hey guys wanted your opinion, was wondering if I should make another OT but specifically for SD mods as in modding games especially old ones to get them working etc, abandonware. Community tips on said games, experiences, hacks etc. I have so many installed, went through hell and back to get some working ( NFS2 SE, imlooking at you) but preserverance pushed through lol.

Now they just have to work on getting the sleep to last longer. Sucks to put the system to sleep and come back at the end of the week to find it at 0% battery.

Would be nice if it had an option to go from sleep to hibernate/power down, if it remained sleeping for more than X hours (like 48 or 72). At least then, you'd have 50% battery when going back to it. Or just get it to hang on the battery longer. My tablet can be in sleep mode for weeks and weeks and not die.

I hope that one day it will be developed enough to have a system as efficient as Android or iOS, where you can press the power button and send the device to sleep immediately, with minimal battery consumption, while still being able to run tasks in the background (such as downloads) and return to the app you were using instantly when you wake it up.

I made a little video of a bunch of abandonware PC games I got running on the steam deck as well as some emulation so check it out if you ever wondered what the SD is capable of, besides just the official Steam games available on stores:
