I finished Rebel Galaxy. Took me around 25h between main story and some side content and I ended having mixed feelings about it.

The good:
- It's pretty, sound design is competent and the weapon and ship variety is surprising considering it is a budget title.
- The combat took me a while to get used to basically because I was expecting a typical fighter-style combat system with front turrets, rockets/torpedoes and mines but instead you play just as if you were controlling a boat, your main weapons are broadside and you fire sideways while any turrets, rockets, lasers, etc on your ship auto-target and fire according to what you set in a tactical menu.
- The galaxy is filled with little details that make it feel alive like trading caravans traveling between stations or Pirate Lords that you can hunt.

The weird and bad:
- My biggest complaint was that you only have (almost) 2 DoF. You move in a plane and while the game is 3D and your enemies can move in the 3rd axis you cannot. It's an understandable design choice considering the nature of the developer but a weird one nonetheless.
- The side mission variety isn't great. There's "go there and kill X capital ships", "go there and defend a civilian" and "escort the trader somewhere". This last type is especially infuriating since you can be intercepted by random enemies while moving from A to B that for whatever reason make the escorted NPC forget where he wanted to go and return to A or a random point C, and in the latter case he'll return to A in order to resume his way to B.
- Being a merchant is not viable. You can make some cash by selling whatever drops from enemies, whatever you mine from asteroids or by exchanging commodities between stations/sectors but it'll never be enough or come close to the profitability that comes from completing missions.
- Endgame battles can be grandiose and challenging but most of it comes from you being overwelmed by annoying fighters and huge dreadnaughts and destroyers, that almost always ends up as a battle of attrition.

So overall I thing I enjoyed my time with it although I have no intentions to ever revisit it and I was left desiring that Freelancer was available somewhere even more.

Rebel Galaxy's repetitiveness wore me down before I beat it, but it really is fun. They made some great choices that make it feel much bigger and higher-budget than it actually is. And I really like the "space-sailing" thing.

I wonder what their next game will be...
I just beat him, it was so much chaos in a tight spot.. I don't know I lived ;d not to mention I had I.D.P.D on my ass at same time!

I didn't know what to expect from the next area, somehow survived what must have been most of the enemies in that stage and found some sort of automatic grenade launcher with that was glowing purple and didn't let me switch to my other weapon, so naturally I ate it and it took my 2 health points and killed -_-

Robot is my favorite character by far (from the ones I've unlocked)

Cursed weapons are the purple glow-y ones. I was wondering what they did when Robot ate them, so thanks!

And you know what, the illuminati guy is my jam. Pop pop is super handy. (That said, I've gotten farther with Steroids, Chicken, and Robot.) I've really struggled with finding the proper weapons--I either waste too much ammo with an automatic weapon, or blow myself up with a powerful AoE weapon.

If I was XSEED I'd want to avoid Persona 5. Different platforms of course, but Persona is big enough that it could still negatively affect Trails. I'd guess early May for 3rd.
So you're telling me SEGA is not happy enough with not porting any of their games, they're now also delaying our PC exclusives???? *old man yells at cloud*

Thought as much, given XSEEDs prior track record with release dates, but I had hope :(
This means I'll have to rethink my spring plans, gah.
Why are there so few sales in the first half of the year.

Well IIRC they said that CS2 actually managed to release before their expectations so there's always hope for a May release or something if things go super smoothly!
Things won't go super smoothly

Q: Oh, and I know you can't answer this, but can you maybe suggest whether the future looks bright for more Trails games on PC in the west? Like, is Falcom happy? I know we're getting The 3rd, but... ya know. More is always better.

T: I can't comment on any games we haven't already announced, but suffice it to say we still love Falcom over here, and we still have some Falcom games up our sleeves for the future, so don't worry! Although for a while we were the only publisher who brought Falcom games to the North American market, we were never actually exclusive with them, so the fact that Falcom has worked with other publishers recently does not signify anything about their relationship with us beyond the fact that their ever-expanding reputation has made scoring publishing deals with them more competitive than ever before.

More Falcom games coming from XSEED. Hm... HM.... HMMMMMMMM

Yeah, right lol.
Well, that actually increases the chances of me getting Nier at release, no thanks to your communication skills, Square Enix.
Or Atelier Firis. Or Berseria.
The choices.

Or I'll just do the Ys Origin nightmare run I've started today.
Current progress: Just beat Vagullion as Yunica. It was... actually not as difficult as I expected? But extremely satisfying regardless.

It's already over. Nothing too juicy other than Net High not being done by them.

It's too bad, but it also made me more interested in the game as a Japanese learner. Might pick it up if I see it at a cheap price.

Cool to hear more vintage Falcom might be coming, I wouldn't say that was a given after Xanadu Next's unfortunate outing.

Hollow Knight is Dark Souls. I lost 1000 souls twice in a row in a remote place which I have to find again by heart because I have no map of this freaking forest / swamp.

obviously Xseed will release Gagharv trilogy because I won't shut up about it for years and don't plan stopping. It sometimes pays.

Yep:

300

I just finished the Hollow Knight sneak peak: thought the game was very nice, the artstyle charming, but the locations and enemies very samey.

Then I watched the release trailer. Are you kidding me? It looks phenomenal and the demo area seems a miniscule part of the game, there are dozens of powers, bosses, enemies, locations.

It's Metroid meets Souls and it seems possibly GOTY stuff. I'm impressed.

Also, about the map:

You start above ground and work your way down like in the old Metroid games, along the way you meet and help characters, so that they open business above ground in the "hub city" like in Souls. There's a guy who sells hand-drawn maps (and it shows), that you can improve upon by visiting the areas yourself to chart them, and by buying pins to pinpoint important locations, like saves, heal fountains, "teleport" stations, etc...

Also when you die you lose your "money" and 1/4 of your max spirit, stuff you can get back if you reach the place where you died and defeat the shadow-like entity your death left in the place. Again, getting huge Souls vibes.

The spirit gauge is refilled killing enemies and can be consumed to fill back the "hearts" bar, which is your life. Nice mechanic.

The hand-drawn graphics are amazing, like the animations. The enemies are cute but menacing. The general insect-world theme oozes style.

Is the special edition of Skyrim worth buying if you have OG version?

Half a decade of mods means there are no shortage of ones that improve the visual fidelity of the original version, but if modding the game is too daunting, then, yeah, the SE is worth snapping up as the default difference between the two is quite stark.

I'd love to see them give those games another chance in English

But I kinda want them to do all they can Trails wise before tackling those games
So for the time I'm more shilling for stuff like Zwei!!(II being my most wanted Falcom localization outside of trails right now), Dinosaur Ressurection, Brandish, Sorcerian

Yep:

Also, about the map:
this has me interested

Not sure when you bought the original version but if you bought it before they announced the SE version, you got it for free. Maybe check your library before buying it and you might be surprised.

^ Meant that to be directed @ jtb :)

I don't mind modding (actually in the middle of a 30+ mod run of New Vegas), but if the SE has visual upgrades and is well-optimized, I might check it out. Pretty sure Gamebryo is crying underneath the load of all these mods whenever I enter the Mojave.

No gameplay changes to the SE?

Think you needed the DLC to be eligible for that offer, no? Bought vanilla at launch, but never much more than that.

DOH... missed that one crucial detail. You either had to have all 3 DLC or the Legendary Edition. Trying to save you some money before you dove in it but hard to tell if you had the requirements.

Booted up Dark Messiah Of Might & Magic. Might just be me, but it feels FAR harder on Hard than I thought. I'm actually _kinda_ considering restarting on Normal like a scrub. :-|

Also, beaten VA-11 Hall-A. I really liked what I got, but it felt pretty short. Kinda expected more. Maybe it's because I temporally had no internet at my PC and just went through it whenever I could?

Since we're at it, I also beat VVVVVV (thanks, GOG connect - I couldn't install it via Steam offline, so I just downloaded the GOG version on another computer). Not 100%, but at least I have it done. Played it long ago, but never finished. Not sure why - the base game isn't that hard. I might try to collect rest of the trinkets now, which is seemingly where the challenge lies.

There is a game which has no review on its store page

yet it has 86% positive rating with 153 reviews based on the search page:

Any explanation?

Edit: Actually, it happens with Hollow Knight too. It must be a bug. Or a feature: maybe Valve waits for a few days before displaying the rating, I remember something along these lines.

I thought it was. First Total War I never bounced off of. Just start with the normal Dwarven campaign, I think it's meant to be the easier race to get used to.

I mostly like the battles and there's just enough Civ style diplomacy, territory control and settlement upgrading to keep me entertained on the world map.
