Steam hidden gems discovery thread

Fallen Aces came out well over 2 years ago? What in the ever loving FUCK. Ishma3L, please tell me you edited this 2.5 year old post recently to change it to Fallen Aces, because surely it's barely 6 months old, if even that.
I think it's been in early access for a little over a year now. When I published that post in 2023 I had linked the store page, which at the time, had no "Buy on Steam" button attached. Since it's a hyperlink to the store page, it will reflect the games status and will transition if the game has released as was the case between 2023, when I posted, and now.

TLDR: You are not crazy.... well you could still be crazy, but in this context, no.

Woof. I thought I was gonna be dead in what I perceive to be 4 months. Time is crazy.

Game turned out great though. Can't wait for Chapter 2!

Mostly a solo dev that worked on it between other jobs over 7ish years. Art and animation is fantastic, gameplay is decent and I had fun throughout my 9 hours playtime. Its not especially difficult but can certainly kill you if you're lazy or not paying attention.

Has a demo thats the beginning of the game but it's probably the weakest part. Progress doesn't carry over but its only maybe 20 minutes gameplay to blast through.

A dungeon crawling rogue-like. My buddy got me on this and we've been playing together. It's also available on switch and cross play works.

It does have some jank especially on cross play, if there is a network hiccup the session just shits the bed. at least there is a system to to not lose progress.

This is what Road 96 should of been. Roguelite driving game. You're on a road trip across America. You come across different people and stories depending on the personality traits you choose at the beginning. And you gotta keep moving forward or fear will catch up to you. Really well done.

Weird Punch-Out like game with some incredible artwork and animation.

So I asked grok for games similar to Operation: Inner Space, which led me to Star Control.
Although the IP was sold, and the copywrite wasn't, so the name was taken by another dev, but the details of the game were held by the OG creators, I still think Star Control Origins is pretty good. I just started it tonight.
But I like space games that are not too dorky, too RTS, too 4X, etc. Kinda like Chorvs. Currently on sale for $6.79. It's not like Chorvs other than it's space and not dorky. ha!

Another thread where I can shill some cool games.

An all-around great platformer with great movement mechanics.

Top tier mix of 2D Zelda and Metroidvania. One of the best maps in the genre, it's open ended and you can approach in any way you see fit.

Very charming top down horror game in the vein of Resident Evil.

A Source Mod that got out of control. It's a really cool (but janky) experience.

Gothic 2D. Actually, it might be even better.

Ninja Gaiden inspired game.

Excellent ARPG with interconnected level design.

Basic isometric adventure/farming sim with some surface level similarities to Captain Toad where you constantly rotate the camera to find secrets. There's some horribly bland "toxic positivity" writing in the dialogue, but it's ok. You will spend 60-80h on it

Early Access game similar to Animal Crossing where you restore a run down town on an island. I wish it did not copy the base personality types of AC and put more work into each individual critter (cranky, jocks etc), but it's made by three developers, I can cut them some slack.

Early Access Action RPG with a PS1'ish art direction made by a solo dev doing everything, art, music, code. It's pretty impressive and a great game (96% user score). Comes with my highest recommendation.

Cozy game where you clean an underwater ocean world of pollution. IMO it's a bit expensive for a 6-8h game, so wait for a discount.

Action Roguelike platformer similar to Dead Cells.
