What a milestone for the most popular core gaming platform on the planet.

We're going to be in for so much shit when Steam inevitably goes public, or finds some other way to become crap. Apparently Gabe has a plan for when he's on his way out, but really there's only so much you can do until capitalism eventually finds its way.

This could turn out "interesting" in, say 20 or maybe 30 years.

We all know it's because prankster uncles keep installing Steam on grandmas/kids PCs... They can't keep getting away with this.

For context it took 3 whole years (half its lifespan) for PS5 to reach 40m total units sold with PSN, which now includes PC gamers, sitting at below 10m concurrent users "pie_tears_joy:
A bit of a flawed comparison since Steam has been around for over 20 years while consoles effectively reset every 7 years.

Why do people like you always need to ruin the party?

With more people entering the middle class around the world, specifically India, Indonesia, Vietnam it's going to continue growing. Countries like China where consoles have a weak or non-existent precedence. On a serious note, it's about time to start adding Hindi subtitles to games.

Best gaming store/platform in the planet. Especially with the refund policy if under 2 hours or two weeks

I just refunded Splinter Cell Conviction (controls are fucked with Xbox controller).

I prefer physical but for sure Steam is "digital distribution done right" and miles better than competition (especially console makers). GOG is the best with DRM free stuff (and game preservation) so both are complementing each other.

This is sort of my thought too. Maybe he is bringing someone up to replace him that has the same values. The other option is they use their dominant space in the market to make all of the current features "standard" and something that won't be moved away from.

okay? are they playing games or just logged in?
Does it matter? They are people logged in, but the amount of people playing will also go up as people logged in increases. You also have to be "logged in" in order to buy games, which is how Valve get their money.

In 30 years? That's a looong time

Very large picture
My God, couldn't you find a bigger picture? Like, so it wouldn't even fit on a widescreen? :messenger_grinning:
In order to launch a bot in any online game, you naturally need a Steam account, and naturally they are banned and created all the time. In the same Lost Ark there was a wave when 300,000+ accounts were killed, in the end it really didn't help, the bots came running again. But it's a natural process, and this is just one online game for a second, unfortunately.

The gap in popularity. There is no valid comparison to be made anymore.
Hey, you can use your flawed logic to make you feel better about your favorite platform. 40m are on steam right now, after 20+ years, great. 70m bought a console (ps5) in less than 5 years.

I'm glad for steam, I use it, I love it. But this thread and your intention is ridiculous.
