Well, Escape Dead Island has been played. For $4 it actually wasn't too bad. There's definitely some not so good in there, but I don't regret playing it. Except for the story, that wound up being nonsense.

And with that, I have played the entire Dead Island catalog this year.

Because NIS is a Japanese game developer and Japanese game developers tend to be very stubborn. :p

And possibly because they might not be able to get a workable port for PC either!

Real fact: Unless their home market shifts towards PC, it is unlikely to expect them to make a PC port, you can expect a shift to mobile before PC.

I think you're right about the volume of posts being the problem, but I feel like it makes the off-topicness more noticeable than before. Before, it was alright when people were posting about a random movie they liked, because it was only a few posts out of the 2-3 pages you'd get in a day. But right before the move to community, you'd have like 10 people doing this and responding to each other, so it'd just get bothersome. But I'd guess the overall post volume correlates with the broadening scope of STEAM itself, whether in games or in members using the service, so I can't really fault people for posting in general.

Well it has really slowed down so I don't know how it can correlate to that if you're not meaning to say the off-topic has been lowered in the thread, whihc I don't hink you're saying.

Over night I get about 1-2 pages at highest depending on if there has been any drama or if many people is awake at that point, the thing I wanted to say is that the thread had much more activity and posting earlier, right now it's a few people posting a lot.

I realize VNDB isn't necessarily the absolute authority on what qualifies as a VN, but I still think these are generally good definitions. So it seems for them, narrative is an important part of what defines a VN.

And with regards to point and click there are actually quite a few VNs with point and click as you can see here.
That's a pretty good definition, actually. I can see why The Walking Dead wouldn't make the cut, since you really only read it if you turn subtitles on.

Same with New Vegas and Divinity OS, I imagine someone broke something.
If it was just Divinity, I'd guess that maybe it's because there's an enhanced edition in the works and they maybe took down the game before adding its replacement. But yeah, with other games affected it seems likelier that someone broke something.

I'm not sure what a possible solution to this problem would be, but that's why the community hashes things out like this.
The solution is pretty much what Zkylon said: "Be the change you wish to see in the world thread."

Yet their cohorts are jumping on board and making the guap off us. I bet Disgaea 5 would sell as much as TiTS if not more. Hell, if they released all 5 they would rake in money. Their other bros release games that are lesser known and receive decent numbers.

I got a $150 right here for a Disgaea 1-5 collection ported by QLOC.

Are you referring to Japan's market or NIS's? Because there definitely are Japanese devs that market to PC. Obviously that's a niche market, pretty much almost exclusive to otaku, mostly because of the kind of content in many of them, and also because generally Japanese homes are not really of a size that could accommodate a PC. There are definitely diehard Japanese PC gamers, but they're definitely in the minority. But the market still does exist, even if it's not that large.

Except in the case of Falcom, they've pretty much been a PC company from the very beginning. I mean they did leave it recently, mainly because of how oversaturated the Japanese PC game market is by eroge. If they wanted to survive in that market, they pretty much would have no choice but to start making eroge, so ultimately it probably was the best decision for them to pull out of that market.

A bunch of VLC plebs, can't believe what I'm reading.
I just found the ultimate warren as a creep image:

Source: People using the ingame models to do weird pictures.

I guess the LiS porn is already out there uh.
Rule 34 brah.
CyberLink PowerDVD 15 Ultra: http://store.steampowered.com/app/338600

I am honestly surprised that they are making this software still. I never remember it working when it came for free with my pre-built pcs or disk drives.
IIRC it's one of the few softwares that can play BDs on PC without resorting to bypassing protection first. Also it's upscale stuff it's pretty cool, makes DVDs look less shit on hi-res screens.

I don't read every page anymore, but it just sucks when news is buried and I don't see it, because GAF is my primary gaming news outlet. It's a shame that the news thread died an undignified death. In this regard, it'd be nice if there was a content scraper or something that just collated the news links and posted the approved ones to a thread/twitter or something. Probably would be a pain in the ass to get running, though.

There was a thread for that (at least for Steam): http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=933127

It has largely faded into obscurity though, due to lack of people interested in keeping it active.

Battleblock is growing on me, the levels past the halfway point are more involved and dynamic, some clever stuff happening. But I realized that I absolutely hate the music. And the 'narrator' has been funny maybe three times if I'm being generous.

I meant NIS.

Falcom didn't leave because of that at all, their's was an issue with the publisher/company they used and because of that incident they went to Sony's systems.

Did you play it with a friend? Because trying to kill your mate in any way possible is part of the charm.

Sorry, was just going by what I've seen people say on the internet. Not that you should believe everything on the internet. :p

But doesn't Falcom self-publish? At least I thought they did. Unless you mean like the packaging company. I suppose that would cause an issue.

I don;t have the proper interviews or reports with me right now, but from a recent interview, this is what Kondo had to say:

In the last few years you’ve focused more development resources on Sony handhelds. Very recently you hinted at moving to home consoles. What motivated the change?

In fact it’s been seven or eight years since we started participating in the console (non PC) market in Japan. We moved to consoles due to the accelerating shrinkage of the Japanese domestic market for packaged PC games. There were still fans who look forward to packaged PC games, but retailers and distributors don’t really take these games, and unlike now, download distribution was not very major. We thought about it from every angle and decided to step into the world of consoles.
http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2015/0...ihon-falcom-president-toshihiro-kondo/142623/

As he mentions here, although in passing, they had a disagreement with a distributor, a major one in fact and that caused them to migrate.

EDIT: Found it, i'll PM you the stuff!

More or less, I was just continuing the conversation about off-topic posts (i.e. the responses to corrosivefrost's post, which was quoted in a few posts ahead of mine, although I'm not sure if he was just being facetious in the first place.) The conversation was already there, so it's kind of disingenuous to pin this all on me, but okay. And it's not like conversation has to be about fun stuff all the time anyway? Otherwise, why would we talk about, for example, the harassment devs are facing from TotalBiscuit's 30fps police curator thing.

But anyway, several people have pointed out that I'm derailng with this, so I'll stop it with this post.

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I don't want to come off as dogpiling on you for bringing up the subject of off topic discussion. I don't think you were out of line for wanting to discuss it, so much as it has just become a tired subject of discussion that more often than not ends badly and leaves the thread in a worse state. You might not have known that, and that's fine, but that's why you got the reaction that you did. I don't think anyone was trying to pin it on you, so much as nip it in the bud before it got worse.

I think it's fine to point out off topic discussion when it gets out of hand. There have certainly been times in the past where it got to the point of impeding actual discussion (and at least a couple of times where it got really uncomfortable in here). Most of the time though, it's just people saying whatever is on their mind because this is where they hang out, and there wasn't anything particularly Steam related to discuss at that moment. There is a balance to be struck, since we don't want to give the impression that this isn't the place to talk about Steam and PC games. I just don't see the benefit of nitpicking every single post that isn't entirely on topic (again, this is just my personal opinion which might differ from yours, I'm not trying to belittle you for voicing your opinion).

As for corrosivefrost, he's just been getting digs in at Grief.exe (and maybe someone else, I don't remember exactly) over a few comments he made recently. I wouldn't take what he said at face value.

Way of the Samurai 4 soon, woo. I'm weirdly excited for it even though I'm still not quite sure what kind of game it is, the explanations I've heard don't sound like anything that I can easily slot into existing genres and such, so I'm looking forward to it.

Also, it's like you guys are having this off-topic conversation about off-topic topics every two days now. I can't tell if it's parody or not anymore.

What is real?

I just activated Killing Floor 2 and immediatly realized I could have traded it for Rocket League (would be a better deal moneywise for whoever trades it with me) which i've been dying to play

oh my god

What kind of ports would you expect out of them? I'd expect stuff on the level of ClaDun x2, which is not something I'd pay 150$ for, not even if it's 5 games (also why only 5? There are 6 games with D2 and if we want to count Infinite too because why not then it's 7!).

I think before clamoring for ports of games we should look at the quality of ports we'd receive and in the case of NIS, barring ClaDun which isn't a great example, we should see their level of (port quality) commitment with that htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary port.

Still trying to get used Troy Baker's Joker as Mark Hamill is so ingrained in the role. Roger Craig Smith as Batman I actually liked off the bat. Currently up to the hotel area and looking forward to taking on Bane(?). Also,
the Electrocutioner went out like a punk

The riddler packs scattered all of the map are ridiculous. Gotta catch 'em all.

I guess I'll give borderlands another try since I'm done with Torchlight 2, in the mood for another loot game.

I tried the tembo and badass elephant demo and it seems fine on my end, the 360 controller buttons are there, just the unskippable intro and crashing alt-tab made getting to the actual game (and can't access options menu in game..) a bit annoying. Game controls ok and I think I'd play through it for cheap, but certainly not too high on my priority list. Performance feels like there are some slowdowns here and there but they don't seem to be actual frame drops, not sure what's the deal with that, but they're pretty minor.

I wouldn't mind one bit of every Japanese port of old console game came out like Way of the Samurai 4, personally. Toukiden has many more problems and it has a outrageous price tag.

Yeah, it's pretty cheap compared to Toukiden and it's currently 40% off as well. That PS4 vs PS3 port difference do matter I guess.
But I'll still wait for more impressionts, as I see no reason to play it right away.

the eternity box is so nice, i love that it's got a more normal size than wasteland 2's and it looks so fancy, like a collector's edition or something

it's also really nice to the touch

best box i've rubbed my face to

didn't mean to pin it all on you, just saying what i always say about "talking about the thread" posts. they're usually not very productive cos unfortunately they tend to derail it even more

i really do think something like talking about an ontopic thing might be all it takes to get the thread back on track most of the times

Uh, that wasn't intended as a threat in the least? I have zero interaction with HaloGAF, so everything I've heard about their situation has come from this thread. If I'm misinformed, I'm sorry? Not sure what else to say.
yeah, sorry, had friends telling me pizza was done and used the first word i could come up with

i didn't mean to say you were threatening with that, but that you presented a thread that wasn't really there

Way of the Samurai 4 Impressions.

Other than the already discussed 30 fps cap, apparently there are minimum graphical settings and mouse support as well. After Toukiden Kiwami, this is kinda becoming the norm for Japanese game ports.

i don't mind so much about those graphics settings (well, fps cap is pretty annoying), i'm just happy those games are on pc

i wonder if the game's any good, i don't know how i feel about it being all campy and goofy and shit

i'm mostly a fan of the first one and that one was pretty serious, if u ignore the afro dude

get some friends

boredlands is only fun with friends and only for a little while

i only play it on free weekends on steam or whatever

Some real good OnTopic discussion happening on this page.

Man, Intel's stock cooler sure is noisy!

It's awfully noisy. Switching to the 212+ was like moving away from a freeway.

I can't stop playing Pro Cycling Manager and I know next to dick about cycling. My rag tag team of young riders just won their first Tour. woot woot.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I think before clamoring for ports of games we should look at the quality of ports we'd receive and in the case of NIS, barring ClaDun which isn't a great example, we should see their level of (port quality) commitment with that htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary port.

And that is sad. People want Disgaea or other JRPGs, not some obscure puzzle plattformer which there are "thousands" already on Steam..
I always wonder when japanese developers "test the waters" with obscure japanese indie-titles, that often even look like they arent even developed by japanese devs.
If NIS would ask players what they want, they would say Disgaea, Mana Khemia or other titles like that. Not Cladun or htoL.

The same happened to GungHo. People expected something different, not Dokuro...

Holy shit, there's cross-system play between PS4 and PC! I'll be playing once I find the stupid power cord in my moving boxes.

we in there

I think cross-play is just for random matches for now tho. supposedly will be able to play with PS4 buds in a future update

RE6 is absolutely exhausting to play. Its really suprisingly shoddily made considering the money that was poured into it

Yeah it does drag on far too long. I would have much rather had a 6-8 hour tightly made singular campaign that takes all the best parts from each campaign in the original game.

Kinda wanna share something about my life. Not important at all. Just like to get it off my chest.
My parents are thinking of moving down to Orlando, FL. Hence why I'm down here on vacation while they're looking at houses. I guess I'll be going to University of Central Florida if I do come with them. But its hard if I do, have to leave my friends, life and everything behind.I thought being this old would make it easier, but its not. But I gotta say, Florida is gorgeous, and being a student at UCF give you some amazing discounts on theme parks and movie theaters tickets as well.

I updated Enhanced Steam to 7.6 but there's no "Add To Cart" button on my wishlist items...do I have to enable something?

The only requirement (should) be that you have to visit any store page once while logged in. Then you should see the links when you browse any wishlist pages.
