The House in Fata Morgana and why you should approach it with caution

The problem with Fata Morgana is that it is not a bad VN as such but it is a very boring one, like I'd say unbearably so, considering its length, and as it isn't really bad, you might think that you just need to man up and finish it, but... it never really gets interesting and here is why:
1. Repetition, the worst crime a writer can commit, repetition is not good and it should be minimized, if it's required (different perspective from different characters), it should be done in such a different way as not to look like repetition.
2. Screaming, moaning, and other random sounds doesn't transition well to the written form, instead of doing AAAAAAAAAAAs, author is way better of telling what a certain character feels, that's what literature is for.
3. Characters are so one dimensional and shallow that they look like dolls with horrible stories for the most part. I don't need my literature to be realistic, no, but some depth to characters would have been nice. To be fair, it is a tad rectified at the end, but that's too little too late.
4. Interminable fussing over every little detail, on and on and on.
5. There is not enough going on for it being as long as it is.
6. Some nitpicking: art is odd, static characters look nice, but sometimes when they change position or show emotion they look nothing like themselves. Backgrounds leave much to be desired.
7. Final word, assuming that it is a mystery VN, it makes you wait for some suspense, and it is simply not there.

there is a sad truth there that probably wouldn't have bought it if not all hype, after such a reception I honestly expected a masterpiece and this VN is very far from that.

With all the praise I've heard I'm surprised, different strokes and all that.

Yes, i did it for all my games:

And yes, for all 6k games i have. But it's really not that hard as you can think, i started to do this when i had like 2k games and that required some time and effort. Now i'm just adding every new game immediately after i bought or activated it, and usually it takes only few seconds to look at release date at store page and add game to correct filter.

Wow!

You need a game from 1983 and 1986. This is the danger of me doing this; I'm going to buy games based on release year XD

I am extremely skeptical with Fata Morgana, just as I was with Undertale 🤔. Seems the fanbase is way out of control (but hey that's me with Trails and general Falcom, must be annoying to others).

Undertale certainly was annoying during its peak and put me off it. Trails and Fata are rather niche I only see around GAF tbh

Although Trails I got into from this one Falcom fan in another forum back when FC released on Steam

I can't remember what it was but someone posted something that organized all your steam games however you want. I did mine by year as well but it was automatic and done in seconds.

My girlfriend got a new phone (same number) but she forgot to write down her mobile recovery code. She isn't receiving SMS notifications from Steam either and support is of course the fucking slowest.

Is there anything she can do to actually get back into her account?
Smartphone?
Is she following these steps? That's all I had to do last time I changed my phone and forgot to remove the authentication on the old one.

I remember him shit talking Nier, so i give a +1

And earlier he was shitting on FF12 aesthetics so I think we know what must happen.

I have tried the demo of Aritana, and I have high confidence this game is indeed a hidden gem.

Unrelated, the Pathfinder setting is going to be adapted again into a video game, and it will be this time an isometric RPG next year. See Kickstarter. The card game was released on Steam this June.

I just had the same situation yesterday, new phone same number. You can just put it as "a new device" or some sort and it will send an SMS for the code.

Arthea I'm sorry but you have been banished from Steamgaf. Forever. Here is a box for all your stuff. Security will escort you out. Please don't make a scene.

Why is it better? Git has such a bad setup for non-code people. There is potential for someone to make something like github with the interface of chrome plugins.

If I remember right, faster download of the database, Wilson score, How Long To Beat times, fewer bugs, nicer interface.

Beautiful.

Is it really that difficult though? There is a downloads section right on the homescreen.

How does she select it? Through the app? Or should she uninstall and then reinstall the app and try logging in again? She just went to work so we'll see. She isn't getting SMS at all from Steam.

Having a download section doesn't help you decide which fork of a project is most appropriate one to use. That's the difficult part, and something you often have to figure out by trawling through changelogs.

True, you can't trust anyone that thinks that niche game has better writing than Planescape
It is completely incomparable though. Trails is super optimistic and cheery slice-of-life. Planescape is, essentially , a philosophical treatise on the human condition.
It doesn't matter how "good" each of them is at their respective field, they are existing in parallel universes.

Why didn't anyone tell me Megadimension Neptunia VII was so good? Its WAY better than the other Neptunia games and is actually really great! Well worth getting on Steam.

The moment this track played and the heroes were being cheered on to fight the giant in the game was really hype. The gameplay, the music, the graphics, and even the writing is so much better than the Re;birth games. It gives you the plot and purpose of the game right from the start. No dawdling; you're thrown into another dimension with a giant causing trouble and you need to stop it! Much better than the Re;birth games shoddy silly VN scenes not really giving any real rhyme or reason for what you're doing.

Continuing my Dishonored 2 amazement,
Aramis Stilton's Manor
and the
time-travel mechanic
was a rush. Pulling off the perfect stealth run was awesome!

Can't wait to replay this on NG+ with deadly force, then stealth again with all abilities.

Which, uh, ending did you get to that mission?

Neptunia games have a tendency to improve a little with each new release, at least the mainline ones, so no surprises there :p Although the story was a bit more sensical this time around, it is still one of the weakest parts. Personally, i play these games for their general silliness, and superb music and voice acting. It is nice to have a better story, but i'm not going into these games expecting anything good on that front, so it was just a bonus for me.

Also, i did tell people this game was pretty good, it even ended up on my top 2016 games list :p (which is not that hard, to be fair, since i don't play many newly released games)

Ignored it. Just did my deed and went on with my turbulent assassin life.
Didn't know it would change the mission's ending
. Ah well, NG+ it is!

Do think about it your second time through.
Aramis and the manor are fucked up primarily because of what he witnessed that night. Were he not there to do so...
It's one of the best acknowledgements of player choice and reactivity I've seen in a game.

Phantom Brave is pretty interesting, but I'm in the middle of chapter 2 and still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. I have one or two characters that can wreck the enemies, and five or six that can peck at enemies like baby ducks. Given that characters have time limits, every battle feels like I'm getting through by the skin of my teeth.

Hrrmmm, are you Confining correctly? Making sure timers dont run out? Aiming for the focus enemies that the boosting lines come from?

It's been over a decade since I played it last but once you start getting this down, the game becomes manageable.

Then comes Title farming...

I think so.
Making sure timers dont run out?
Timers are extendable? Or do you mean waiting until the right time to confine the better fighters?
Aiming for the focus enemies that the boosting lines come from?
Yup.

Yeah I have no idea what this is.

Yeah I have no idea what this is.

The right time to, yeah.

Title farming is getting better Titles for your characters. Breaks the game the FUCK open and full of Stupid Things to learn and find.

Also note of the kind of weapon. Some of the weapon specialities don't make "sense" like how seastars are a Warrior's best weapon and other shenanigans.

I'm not going to argue with you here, because everyone is entitled to their opinion and different people have different needs, but I need to say that all the points you mention (except maybe the last one) are not exclusive to Fata - pretty much every single VN is guilty of them to some extent.

Hey, I know I'm late as hell to answering this stuff, but I thought I should anyway:

I must be the only one that doesn't like cuphead and thinks it looks like chromatic aberration the game.
No I think CA can be okay if done well, cuphead looks like it was turned on to 11.

You will be able to turn the CA off. We're actually working on a CA slider (that may or may not make it into final, but we're working on it), so you can adjust the amount of CA from none to EYE SEARING. Just how you like it!

WrightI think they delayed the game to add "levels", if you will.

Not quite, but kind of. Basically, it was delayed for everything. Also, the game is still mostly bosses. And while we won't have a boss-rush mode for launch, the way things are implemented, you might be able to get your wish anyway...with some...tactics.

This much interest based almost entirely on the art style definitely has me worried that it could be the spiritual successor to Mercenary Kings and Slain.

Cuphead plays nothing like either of those. If you want to know how Cuphead plays, load up a game of Contra 3: The Alien Wars and play the skeleton boss at the end of level 3. Then play the sequence in level 4 where you pass under the mother ship, then fight a cyborg while hanging off of the helicopter, then fight the mother ship by jumping from missile to missile while taking out the shield then blasting the core.

Did you think that was fun? Then you will probably like Cuphead.

If you thought that was boring/all flash no substance/too hard/too simple/etc... you will probably not love Cuphead. And that's totally cool.

We've honestly had really good response from most people who've played it. At PAX and Gamescom and wherever else, we usually have people willing to play bosses over and over til they beat them. The biggest complaint is usually about difficulty, but I think that's mostly just show-floor jitters or needing to tune themselves to a run and gun game. Cuphead isn't bullet hell, but it's not easy. It's also nowhere near NES hard. I'd say that if you can beat Ori, you can beat Cuphead on Normal, no problem. If you can beat Spelunky, you can beat Cuphead on Hard, no problem. If you have ever beat a Mega Man or Contra game, you can beat Cuphead on Hard.

And if not, there's always Easy, specially added for Phil and Kanye.

Im pretty early on in Styx Master of Shadows and i dunno, I'm not really feelin it, it's definitely not a bad game but the looseness that makes it free also makes it feel dated and jankey, for example, now ledgegrab just makes it so that any time you fall off the common 2box stack it's loud enough to agro even though on the other hand you can like crouch right before falling and it doesn't agro half the time. That said, I'm super early on, just before the hideout in the first chapter as I just started again, should I even bother with collectibles, been getting at least all the coins so far and they are kind of a time sap; or any other tips i guess?

Played the demo for COMPOUND, it's a really cool looking low-fi VR shooter that has randomly generated levels. It controls and play really well and I had a lot of fun with it. Wish more games would go for this art style, it really pops especially in VR.

By playing games from specific year + some stuff i bought and want to play right now. I started my backlog cleaning from games released in 2004, currently I'm on 2007 so most of the games i have installed was originally released in this year.
A2XKRTG.jpg

Some of them i played immediately after i installed them, some games like LEGO Star Wars and TF2 are sitting on my HDD for ages, waiting when i'll finally get in the mood to finally play them.

I had everything organized like this (but I used spreadsheets to track them). Ultimately I favored organizing not by release year, but by year of purchase, with the idea being to clear out the games I've had the longest. I had never considered using Steam categories for this purpose though. It looks good.

I never have this issue lol.
Due to lack of money and time I have to narrow it down to the absolute essentials and then I try to keep up with those releases in the order they become available, but since I mostly play rpgs and I can't even do that.

Take this year for example. I was interested in lots of games but due to lack of funds I had to skip a ton like Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0, Horizon, RE7, etc.
So for the first semester I narrowed it down to 3: Nier, PErsona 5 and Tits 3rd.
I didn't manage to finish Nier before P5 released so for a few days I played both at the same time. Then I played P5 exclusively until Tits 3rd released, now I'm playing both since I still haven't been able to finish either. Once I'm done I already have The Last Guardian lined up which I borrowed from someone and I also need to finish Cold Steel 2 which is on a bit of a hiatus because of the other games I mentioned, though I still play it occasionally so I don't forget what's going on. The game is just so friggin' huge, so getting to the point of being done with all these will take me at least another 3 months.

I've also recently finished Stein's Gate but I was reading that in bed on my Vita before falling asleep so it didn't cut into my normal gaming time, VNs are perfect for the Vita. This one made a very strong impression on me, can't get it out of my mind.
I want to get 0 during the current PSN sale but I don't have 15 euros for that, it's pathetic, I have a degree and work my ass off but the business I started for my wife when she became unemployed has burried me in debts.

I think i have to stop buying games. I have so many that i yet have to play, but rarely do. Or play them for a bit then forget about it for a long time. But the bigger problem is nothing can keep my interest for too long so that i would return to that game another day. I want to play the game because it would fit my mood or because i want to enjoy it not because i have to beat the game.

Will see tho, i took some advises from this thread. Will try and see how it works.

I just start kind of at random and then imagine myself playing it. If that doesn't seem appealing, I move on. Then, when I've found nothing, I just fire up Rocket League like I always do.

That's pretty accurate for me as well. But i end up playing Overwatch instead :D
