I woke up to a 30 page Mass effect review thread and now it became a 2 page review thread. Should I even ask what happened?
Average game. Not what people hoped for. Pitchforks raised against EA. Mods got tired of trash. Mods purged the trash.

Add a sprinkling of ME lovers vs haters.

What was that?

Shinobi posted a long, positive thread about his session with an early copy of Andromeda.
That ended in drama, people crying him a shill and him ultimately quitting GAF.

Now people obviously had to bring all this stuff up again because they can't let go.

I didn't read the thread, but I've always noticed Shinobi enjoys shallow AAA games. His taste likely reflects the majority of the gaming community. I doubt there's any monetary influence going on.

I actually agree with Shinobi at this point, GAF has become terrible recently.

Nier isn't getting remastered. That game, and most of YT's other stuff looks like they were held together by duct tape.

There's a reason a lot of remaster collections leave out some of the older clunkier games.

There is hope, SE is not Sega.

Nier Remaster is Possible, But Only if Automata “Sells Like Hotcakes”
That’s according to Producer Yosuke Saito, who hosted a Facebook Q&A alongside Yoko Taro and Takahisa Taura — Series Director and Designer, respectively. Fielding a series of questions and queries from curious fans, Saito-san noted that “there is a very high possibility if Nier: Automata sells like hotcakes, yes.”

The whole "person likes a game so they are automatically a shill" shtick is really tiresome. What's so hard for people to understand that someone can really enjoy a game even if it has flaws?

you are asking that in the wrong thread lol

Figures it'd somehow turn personal like with good Zelda scores.

Those people should be firing themselves up some Nier or Numenera fun and just chill. :)

Happily!
I enjoy talking about games I love.
Note that I went in completely blind, I didn't even know the characters or anything about the setting -- I tuned out after the very first release trailer since I knew I was going to play this one.

I'm only done with route A, which as we know is very little in terms of story of a Nier game, but here we go:
  • The fact that it starts off with (first 5 minutes "spoiler")
an implementation of all 3 major shmup genres: scrolling, dual analog, and starfox-like.
And more than that, they are good implementations.
    Better than Nier 1's.
Before playing the game I was a bit concerned that they'd do away with or focus less on the genre mashup, and that immediately not just put my fears to rest, but amazed me with its quality.
  • Just the basic combat and controls, even in the tutorial already. 2B feels amazing to control, and combat looks absolutely fantastic. I don't think I've played any game where a perfect dodge is more satisfying.
  • The setup for (early game spoiler)
the first major post-tutorial boss in the desert area. It's amazingly atmospheric, and that was the point where I knew that I was playing a Taro game and not "just" a good action RPG.
  • The entire (mid route A spoiler)
amusement park area was just fantastic, both audio-visually and in terms of what it meant for the story and how it defines the "factions" you interact with
    .
  • Most recently, the story run up from (end route A spoiler)
the point you lose 9S to the end of the route. It fleshes out 2B's character and is extremely captivating. I actually wanted to stop playing yesterday ~3 hours before I finally managed to - it was that exciting.
  • The variety in pacing and environments. I love that you have periods of frantic activity interspersed with more laid-back side-questing, and you also have large open world areas alternating with tighter locations (which might also switch to different perspectives). This is something many games get wrong, and that type of variety is really important to hold my interest.
  • The music. It's just as good as Nier 1's, and that's really the highest compliment imaginable.

guess it's entirely a personal thing then, cos everything you just said (except the ending stuff cos i haven't finished it) i just shrugged at

like idk, i didn't find anything you mentioned particularly impressive. i found the desert very pretty and it's got the journey sliding thing but everything that happened in the desert was really uninteresting and obvious coming from nier 1

that's kind of everything about the game for me

Well, I must agree (but I also admit being myself involved in some toxic threads... and I was banned for this)

I decided to keep posting only in few threads, like this and the Im@s ones.

Edit: I deserved to be banned, of course, and I promised to myself to be more polite, calm and friendly.

I think there is a difference between liking a game and defending it against all odds.

Well, it seems that Nier:Automata sold ~100k (from Steam DB). Really good.

Also, lets not kid ourselves. It probably didn't have anywhere close to the budget other open world games get these days, you definitely see it in the technical presentation. So that seems pretty good.

I feel like you're mostly complaining about the structure being too similar because you've already played Nier, I can somehow agree to that because so far I'm not enjoying the pacing, like, I mean I do enjoy it somewhat because it's Nier and the aesthetics/music/art are super nice, I want more of it and I want to find out what happens next, but I find myself having to take a break at every save point because the core of the game feels kind of stale, the controls are super cool and it's flashy but there aren't much depth to it and I just want to get to the stuff that matters.

I do think it needs time to build up, it's probably going to blow my mind in the second playthrough, but the 1st playthrough so far with the huge open world and slow pacing just isn't helping.

Fair warning,
it won't. It certainly fleshes out a couple of things, but what immediately follows that probably will.

For the next Mass Effect game they should let you play as a Han Solo type character, who isn't chosen to do shit, except rack up some money. The main story should be about paying back some debt he got from {player chosen reason}. Bring back simple evil or good points, and a few side characters who can join you. All which should be written by Drew Karpyshyn, and fire everyone who wrote those "self ironic awkward dialogues" from Andromeda. There you go, fixed it.
Also, outsource your animation team to literally anyone else. Doesn't matter.

Yes, true.

Also, what is the number of users registered to SteamSpy?
Is it really low compared to actual steam players?

What is this trash and why does it have a 2048 release date? I knew it was easy to post troll submissions in greenlight but you'd expect the main store would be safe from stuff like this.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
SteamGAF's unanimously favorite franchise now has a hub. Thanks to lashman for spotting this.

I'll admit that Croteam treats their customers pretty well. Like some kind of reverse garbage man that dumps trash on your lawn every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

You know I read somewhere that Rain World would have multiplayer.

On steam page it says single player. I guess a goal wasn't met or something?

Has anyone ever tried to get a refund from CDKeys.com? I know it said Mass Effect key would released on or before March 23rd but it comes out the 21st in most of the world (I am in Canada) so I assumed I would have a key by then. I mean its only 2 or 3 days after release but still annoying and the savings aren't that great.

I requested a refund today (for ME:A). Took the support 7 minutes to respond and issue a refund.

That's a great idea for any open world game 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

That way you can weave in varied side quests naturally into the main story to mix gameplay up.
