As a recent inductee into SteamGAF, I'm pretty grateful for this place. I've gotten quite a few free games (including XCOM 2, which I was really looking forward to) and quite enjoy the community. All hail Stump & ModBot!

Again, I'm really curious.

We passed from "almost nothing indie passes from here" to "every joke with a botnet voting shall pass".

It's not an easy task. At all.

Well, goodnight ppl!

anyone have some thimbleweed park impressions? i mean its a ron gilbert game and a PnC so im for sure getting it but interested to know what others thought about it

Degica seems to have a stream of Sayonara Umihara Kawase with the illustrator of the game (and someone else I do not recognize by name)

NVM, should've checked. Seems like Twitch sent me an email with the title and game from the previous stream.

Hey, speaking of ModBot giveaways, I wanted to let you guys know that some time in the last few weeks ModBot passed 75,000 items giveaway away. Whether it's credit for online stores, beta codes, bundle turds, birthday gifts, high value launch giveaways, or that time someone gave away a brand new sealed in box cell phone, I am consistently humbled and proud at the community's charity and enthusiasm. The total value of goods given away is north of $10,000 even if they were all bundle turds, but actually I suspect it's probably something closer to $100,000 in total value. This is insane.

I've programmed professionally for a very long time, and I've run a lot of money-losing code endeavours because I get personal satisfaction from making things people use, but this is probably the project I've worked on that has been used more than anything else I've ever made and I am just truly grateful that years after the idea was born, ModBot is more popular than ever by some regards. Thank you, again.
No, thank you.
We are not worthy.

As much as I loved Hexcells I found the rng puzzles of infinite pretty unsatisfying, none of them had the wonderful brilliance of the hand crafted puzzles.

That's to be expected, though. A lot of the later HexCells puzzles had lots of neat little tricks involved that I imagine would be tough to replicate in a random puzzle.

I really need to find something (preferably in my backlog) good enough to keep me distracted from Persona 5. I spent way too much on new releases this month. :(

I ended up feeling burnt out playing the randomly generated puzzles after a while. The patterns became too noticeable.

Infinite is still a great game though.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
I want someone so badly, who has access to that. Leak a full playthrough (Or all that was made anyway in the build)

Yeah, I'd love to sink my teeth into the game. It must have been content complete or close to it as there are achievements that span the breadth of the campaign as well as several related to side activities.

Like if someone "leaked" it, and let the pirates have at it. You wouldn't see any complaints from me. Vaporware once it's in the hands of the community is fair game.

I won't be using the 20% off a digital purchase at Square Enix (some exclusions) code, so PM me if you want that.

Do you use a script like in linux?
Would I be able to see a slight preview of what the code entails? Just got started on coding in class and am curious what something like modbot would look like. I'm sure it's some next level shit compared to my "Make a script that tells you what grade you recieved out of 100"

Congrats! That's a lot of giveaways. Long live ModBot!

All thanks to everyone and a "anonymous" benefactor of Nier and other recent games.

I think the problem with some people is that they treat anime as some "avant garde" medium rather than simply just a medium. It's like they forget it's essentially cartoons in that it comes in different shapes and sizes.

Maybe because most of them don't go overseas? You got stuff like Crayon Shin-chan, Doraemon, Anpanman, Tokyo Pig, etc. then you hop to Polar Bear's Cafe, K-On!, etc.

Bought X-Plane 11, 91 Gbs required and a 54 Gb download. And that's without the optional free dlc packs. God damn.

Been thinking about taking pilot lessons tho so I figured 60 bucks is a relatively cheap test of interest.

ModBot

Not a mod, just a bot.
This is a scheduled automated repost on behalf of uncredited male, who is running this raffle.

It's 2,000 lines of Python. The database backend is SQLite, although it's really at the point that I should be migrating it to something a little beefier. It does run on Linux. The code is in pretty rough shape (although I just rewrote the moderation side a few weeks ago and that side is awesome right now).

Here's a screenshot from the code, the beginning of the portion that does post edits. I think I wrote this particular version of this code maybe 18 months ago? Click for full size:

Here you can see several bad coding habits:
- Editor set to 8-space tabs, when it should be at most 4-space tabs
- Tons of unspecified try-except rather than actually trying to capture specific errors
- camelCase variable names, which is against Python PEP8 spec (but I prefer them)
- Very lazy character encoding handling

eight space tabs can be a hard habit to break. That's why you put style blocks in your builds or pull request approval checks.

More pressing issue in that shot...holy cow is that pico

Religiously, I prefer tabs to spaces. In projects where I absolutely need to I turn on tab-to-space conversion in the editor. But even in a project that allows tabs in code style, 8 is too wide. I do run a linter on most of my projects, but I override the no-tabs rule that the Python gestapo want to instate.

nano, yeah, which is GNU pico. I'm pretty fluent in vi as well but typically if I'm just popping in to make a quick source edit I'll use nano.

Wait, what's wrong with Camel Case? It's so much better looking than this_shit_for_long_names.

Ask Guido and punch him when he tries to answer.
