New Humble today? One of the article about Comic one currently tanking mentioned they plan to have two bundles running at the same time, one gaming related, one ebook/music/comedy one.

I suspect Blade Symphony will die pretty soon. It has a 39.6 player average on Steamcharts. Not gonna bother with multiplayer only games unless they are really, really cheap. Learned my lesson from War of The Vikings that I preordered and it is already dead despite being a few weeks old

I thought it was known that indie mp-only games are almost never a good investment.

Well, War of The Vikings isn't an indie title and I remember War of The Roses being pretty popular when it was released. I think it got really bad reviews though so this may be the reason

Anyone having trouble doing the jump attack on DS2 using a 360 controller? can't do it most of the time, seems like a game bug to me, any tips?

I mentioned this in the DreadOut OT, but I want to bring up something a bit more general here. Guess I'm curious to hear people's thoughts on something DreadOut is doing.

Now, it's not completely new. It's similar to episodic gaming as it stands on Steam, to some extent. Basically, what is releasing right now is 'Act 1' of the game. It's not been fully described on what Act 1 is in its entirety, but described as the tale of our character entering and escaping the nightmare. The game is starting out Windows-only, and down the line updating freely with Mac and Linux updates, as well as an Indonesian dub down the line. There will be 'DLC' down the line, with an undetermined date and pricetag, which will add 'Act 2' of the story, as well as a 'Free Roam' Mode (though these come free to Indiegogo backers).

What is your guy's thoughts on this? It strikes me as something that would get mixed reception, but I myself am okay with it. The team is small, they are working on a pretty small budget, and I think this move may be a combination of them needing funds and releasing the product sooner rather than later, as well as a way to garner feedback. Still, it's different, and I find a bit interesting.

Do you guys think such a method is a bit tricky of them to do? Do you think it's a good incentive to push a game's lifespan and help develop it? I'm earnestly curious on thoughts for this sort of thing on indie games with low budgets.

A lot of those titles in the Image Humble Bundle are actually great, Saga, Revival, Chew and Fatale at least are great reads. The problem is the people who buy these bundles are interested in games, not anything else. Will be interesting if they introduce a new bundle now, overlapping them. Maybe have an ebook/soundtrack/audiobook etc start one week, a game one start the next, and continue on like that. If that's what they mean by two at the same time I'd be all for that.

Yeah, it might backfire - I imagine people don't like playing not finnish games.

I am wondering if the game (as it is on release) will have a conclusion, or a cliffhanger, or something akin to that. I'll have my impressions when I play it on the 13th, but I can already see some people complaining if this kind of move is not handled well.

Im okay with it as long as it ends well. Nobody complains if Episode 1 of GoT doesnt include the rest of the season or the series. And we get 1-2 AC,CoD games every year so we shouldnt complain about it.

See Walking Dead : Ending of S1E4 got everyone excited for Episode 5 and this is somehow something that is exciting for people. I play each episode ASAP and get more and more excited for every episode. But if they end Episode 1 with nothing interesting i could see them developing the DLC for nobody.

Its incredible hard to keep people motivated to play this form of games without any twists or interesting story development.

Edit: Anyone have the source for the 2 Humble Bundles a week article?

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but they need to be upfront about exactly what you're going to be getting for your money. Glancing at the store page you linked to, I didn't get any indication that this was just the first chapter of a larger story. If they're going to go this route, they really ought to let people know that, along with how future installments will be handled. People don't like feeling like they've been misled, and I can imagine a backlash if the devs aren't careful.

I wouldn't mind seeing Humble do some themed mixed bundles (music/comics/game) along the lines of the ones from Groupees, since some of those have been pretty neat. A purely comics bundle just isn't as interesting to me.

Steam's completion rate represents the average amount of achievements you've earned per game (games you've not played aren't factored into it),

To be even more precise only games in which you at least got one achievement count towards the percentage. So someone could own 999 unplayed games, 100%ed Bad Rats and have a rating of 100%.

that's sort of tempting idea, not with bad rats, no
and I already have more than 999 games, anyway! For the moment, I thought you are referring to me waiting for Trails to be my 1000th game, but then I thought better of it, you wouldn't remember that, would you?

ups, double posted, somehow I thought I'm in edit mode, apparently I wasn't, sorry about that.

Yeah Humble, let's start pushing out dozens of bundles a day just when I'm waiting for my new credit card. :D

(also, just saying, I've contacted all the sites where the scumbag bought something with my card, asking them to put on hold the orders linked with my card, so at least the son of a bitch won't get anything, and while Italian stores wanted proof of charges pressed, the only US store, Necessary Clothing, put the order on hold and refunded money with basically no questions asked! USA RULES)

As per the Humble Image Bundle tanking, I guess it's mostly because of its tiers price points. I don't really know how much ebook comics cost in USD, but 10/15$ just seems a little bit pricey for a bundle, especially for just one or two volumes, like Saga or TWD.
On Amazon Italy, a volume of Saga costs more or less 10€ for the physical copy and 5€ for the Kindle version (and also it's published by the best Italian publisher ever), so I guess lots of people just can't see enough saving to pull the trigger on Humble.

Happened to me aswell, and it was a prepaid card. For some obscure reason, no one will lift a finger unless you have that damn slip of paper.

Apparently Steam has some quality control and they removed Earth: Year 2066.
Now for Air something.

Not really. The game was removed because of "dishonesty" on the part of the developer, and Valve reinstated the store page shortly after removing it, which makes me think this is just another War Z situation -- the current state of the game needs to be made abundantly clear, communication should be improved with regard to roadmapping future plans, and those in power shouldn't abuse their hub moderating privileges.

I actually have 50 people on my friendslist who don't have HL2. Seems so crazy to me.

I don't own any Half Life games. Even worse I haven't played a Half Life title in my life. I am planning to pick up the full collection in the coming Summer Sale, but I have a feeling that Valve will give it away for free for a limited time this November because of it's 10 year anniversary

Wouldn't hold out for that. HL1 had its 15th and Steam had its 10th anniversary last year and Valve didn't do a thing.

May I ask why you had to make the calls yourself? I remember that when someone managed to get my CC details (I still don't know how the hell it happened) and spent 500$ in a Microsoft Store, I had everything handled by the CC company (Amex), I only had to confirm to them which purchases were mine and which weren't.

I'll have a crack at that on behalf of a kid I tutor. Built him a PC last year and he loves Steam but he mostly has to live off my bundle table scraps and the occasional sale when I'm feeling generous.

I also think not ever having played Half Life 2 technically counts as some sort of child abuse.

Insane difference between #1 and #2

I like checking statistics, it's one of nicer features of steam, judging from wishlists, my friendlist people have really great taste in games, also I'm amazed how DS2 is winning over DOTA and that's not even a contest (><)

I hope he wasn't. Just look at the game page.
And I have 125 friends.

oh, now I see it, just being my blind myself again (><)
42 people don't have HL2 (from my fl).

Yup, but I at least hoped they could block the order until further notice (or, like, an alert from the police after charges were pressed).
And don't get me started with prepaid cards, because I've a great amount of funny adventures there (basically involving losing around 300£ because card issuer - Italian postal service - wasn't able to translate an UK piece of paper telling I needed a refund). :D

I don't own HL2 because HL is the most overrated franchise in the history of videogames. Gordon Freeman is an absolute non-character and first-person platforming can eat my ass. Come at me, bros.

I didn't have to, I could just have waited for my transactions details to show up in my bank website, and with them I had to go to the police to press charges, and with charges going back to the bank telling them what was mine and what not.
But as details won't show up for another couple of days or so, I thought that meanwhile the orders placed would have already been processed and shipped. And as I'd really hate to imagine the dickhead receiving 1500€ worth of clothing on my expenses, I thought (after the card was blocked of course) to send to all the stores involved all my card details, hoping they'd block them until further notice.
But now that only one of four stores blocked the order, I think that it will be super funny to explain that to carabinieri (obligatory joke about them :p ).

I'm hearing the Outlast Whistleblower DLC coming today is almost as long as the regular game. Regular game I would say was 5-6 hours long, being told the DLC is 3-4 hours long. I know not super lengthy, but I will admit to that being longer than I was anticipating.

Never really got the hate for FP platforming. Always did fine in HL or Mirror's Edge etc. Now ladder climbing (in HL) is a different story.

Also, of course Freeman is a non-character. That's the point of him. An empty shell you can put yourself into.

I thought you like it, why haven't you finished it yet? AssFlag dlc got in the way? (><)

I was loving the game, but I caught up with a mate the weekend after it released and he'd recently bought it himself, so most of the night was spent playing through it and we eventually got a fair bit ahead of where I was up to on Steam, which killed my momentum. We didn't finish the campaign, though, so I'll resume my playthrough eventually.

The only slightly bad thing about Xen is the endboss. Everyone who complains is just bad at using m/kb. Or I'm supernaturally gifted, never had a problem with the first Alice that got the same criticism either.

I have played all of them, just don't own them on Steam.

I was mostly trolling up there, of course, but here's my honest opinion: HL1 pushed for more narrative in FPS games, which was cool, but had too many junky action and platforming parts. HL2 was cute with its 1984/THX-1138 type setting and the way it brought Havok to the forefront was good, but it was bogged down by platforming, driving both cars and boats and whatever other boring shit they had you doing that wasn't either shooty action or talking to people and soaking in the atmosphere. I think CliffyB said something about if you find 30 seconds of fun and stretch that, you have a game. Valve did the same thing for HL2 but they dragged everything out for SIX HOURS. I would've paid money for DLC that let you skip the driving.

All in all, they're absolutely not bad games and both of them did very interesting things that had an important impact on gaming, but I do think they're highly overrated. I just don't see what's supposed to be so mindblowingly amazing about them. Good? Sure, absolutely. Mindmeltingly amazing to the point where people are almost religious about it? I don't get it.

Also, of course Freeman is a non-character. That's the point of him. An empty shell you can put yourself into.
I get it. Doesn't change the fact that he still shows up in "character battles" on GameFAQs and people have pictures of him as their wallpapers and whatever. Why? He's a face with glasses and absolutely nothing else. The very definition of overrated right there.

My very same prepaid card :) And basically the only one a student can live off. Besides, don't set the bar too high when italian State-owned services are involved, their mediocrity is at times spectacularly astounding

I know people were discussing this a few days ago but I was just hit by it. My Steam downloads keep jittering, like it's not progressing, it's basically frozen, and keeps rapidly going between showing MBPS (but they aren't download) and saying Download Queued. Any known way to fix this? Downloading Outlast for the DLC today.

I never use "Ignore". I like taking all the stuff GAF slings at my face.

Exactly my stance, I have absolutely no one on my ignore list.

I already played and finished it back in the day - the part I hated the most is the room with the three turrets in the lockers towards the end of the game, I had to try it many times and it took me a trick to beat it - , but I haven't got it on my Steam account, so I'll give it a try.
