I sold an invite for .10 just to get the badge for selling stuff.

I regret nothing.

Whats the point of foil variants when you're going to craft them into a badge?

There are numbers beside each one, so I assume you can collect more than one and then craft some into a badge and then keep others if you like.

omg there are foil variants of cards

To craft Foil badges...

Also the cool stuff I'm not seeing mentioned much.

What do I get when I craft a badge from my Trading Cards?
-In addition to getting the Game Badge itself, you'll get:
-a random emoticon item created for the game you can use in chat or discussions;
-a random profile background item created for the game that can use on your Steam Community profile
-a chance to get a discount coupon for a different game or DLC
-100XP, which may increase your Steam Level
If your Steam Level increases, you'll get the limit on the size of your friends list increased by five, and potentially unlock the ability to customize your profile with showcases.

Can I upgrade my game badge?
If you gather another complete set of trading cards you can upgrade that game badge. You can craft a set for a game at most five times. Each time you upgrade the game badge you'll get an extra 100XP, as well as upgrading the image and title of the badge.

Those emoticons, profile backgrounds etc will also be tradeable on the market. We are gonna need a Steam Trading card Trading Thread soon.

You can't retroactively get cards for having already played the games on the list can you?

Also, Left 4 Dead should be on there too.

Do invites daisy chain or is Valve actually trying to regulate how many people get into the beta?

On the Market i seen a few cards selling for over ten dollars. But those were the first few cards out.

Do cards have time-stamps like how TF2 items have craft numbers? I hope the people who bought those cards were trying to flip them.

I assume it's like TF2 item drops where the game just rolls the dice while you're playing (up to defined play time per week) rather than it being directly related to play time.

haha they added on something new that doesn't really do anything that has items that can be sold on the Market. It's unreal how good they are at transparently making money by getting people into it.

I'm looking for Portal 2 cards.
I have 2 duplicates of the "Underground" card, and the "Finale" card. Anyone want to trade? :)

I hope they lock these level 1 cards to the beta testers. Then I sell them in 2 months for $100 each. :)

Just played like an hour of TF2 and didn't get any cards. How often are you meant to get them?

Not able to unlock any of the new Steam Community tasks either. Is it bugged for me? Probably doesn't matter, but I bought my way in rather than getting in through the Steam Group.

Not sure if it's been brought up, but you can get Portal 2 cards via the PS3 version if you link your PSN account with Steam.

From The Official Steam group...

Play any of the participating Trading Cards Beta games to get trading cards. Up to half the card set is dropped through game play, the other half is earned through your collecting prowess.

So does this mean we can't receive a full set just by playing the game?

The community pillar tasks aren't unlocking for me - and the beta shows up in my library. I guess I'll sit it out and wait till everything works.

I have 2x Willow and 2x GlaDOS. I'm down to trade for an extra DS card (Wilson, Maxwell, Wolfgang) or Portal 2 card (3, 5, 6, 7, 8). PM me if you want to trade.

You have to trade for the rest.

It's quite evil actually. You can't 1:1 trade to get all your cards with just cards. You'll have to buy or trade other things to get a full set. All of it going through the marketplace of course, so Valve gets a cut of it all. And to top it off, the cards themselves are functionally worthless and free to distribute. But people will go apeshit over them anyway because of the instinct to collect.

Unless the drops are only limited per week, rather than for all time. We don't know that yet I think.

P.S. I have an extra Riki card. Willing to trade for any other Dota 2 card besides Bounty Hunter.

Cool stuff.

Shouldn't we create a dedicated thread for invite sharing though? It would be easier for everyone to offer invites and to ask for them while keeping it separate from the discussion. Or do they send them fast if you're in the group? I still didn't get mine.
