Steam Trading Cards : get trading cards and turn it into stuff

My Steam wallet jumped up by $10 and I haven't even sold all my cards yet.

Anyone know if there's a list somewhere of each emoticon? I just got :balloonicorn: and haven't seen it yet on the market.

Other than that, I can see a lot of people getting canned for thinking it's alright to create tons of new accounts to funnel cards into their main (just like the coal fiasco).

You probably could get a good $100 for that right now.

You need to have steam guard enabled for 15 days before you can buy / trade anything, and I don't think you're getting in any other way anytime soon

Looks like they completely take the game out of your card section once you reach the cap. I got all 5 TF2 cards (sold them all for $5+) and the TF2 section is no longer in my badges page.

By that logic, if this amount doesn't refresh, does that mean people with level 2 badges and up basically bought/traded to get 100% of those badges? That seems counter-intuitive to playing the game.

It's like you're rewarding SOMEONE ELSE for the time YOU put into the game.

It's a funny coincidence that all of this happened today:

a) I suddenly decide to spend the evening playing Ace Combat 5 after a two year long hiatus
b) Then I go on to discover that there is a sale on Assault Horizon; however I don't really want to spend any money at the moment
c) And finally I learn about the Trading Cards beta which gives me means to make a profit with a little I have left in my Steam wallet and actually buy Ace Combat: Assault Horizon

It's like playing Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is my destiny.

So...are you randomly assigned half of the possible cards for each game, and that's why you're forced to trade for the other half?

Does that mean you can keep getting duplicates of those cards as you play and just keep trading or selling them?

Isn't that basically free games for idling in a game perpetually?

I hit the limit of four in HL2 and only got 3 uniques.

But their description seemed to make it clear you can only get half of a collection yourself. So MAYBE you can only get that half EACH DAY?

Each participating game drops up to half the set of cards into your Steam inventory during gameplay.

Duplicates count toward the limit of card drops, so it doesn't look like you can always get half the possible cards unless you don't get any duplicates.

I got an extra Pyro, so if anyone is trading and not just selling on the market I'd trade for a card I don't have :p

Well see I figure that if you can get your Steam level up to something like Level 22 based on that image, that seems to imply you need to craft these things many many times to get to those levels, so I figure you might be able to get your "set" of half the badges each day/week/whatever.

Right, but does that mean that you basically do this once, and are pretty much done with the random part of the collecting forever, having to rely solely on the marketplace for more cards?

Yeah, see:

Level up your badge by collecting the set again and earning more items.

So the question is, does that mean "collect your half and trade for the other again" or "go trade TF2 and DOTA 2 in-game items for cards to make the badge again"

No one really knows yet if there's a reset point, but it appears that way :O

hope next gen achievement pts and trophies actually count towards something. even if its just like stuff like redeeming them for avatar items

Just read about the foil cards, this also seems to imply some sort of reset:

Once you reach Steam Level 10, there is a small chance whenever you get a Trading Card from playing a game that it will have a special foil border. You'll need to collect a set of foil cards in order to craft them into a foil badge. There is no extra benefit to having foil cards or foil badges aside from their rarity.

You can't technically reach level 10 without collecting badges first, so it would seem that you can keep getting your half of the cards.

I have an extra sniper if you want to trade?

Edit: Trade complete! Thanks :)

I started at level 11. I got to level 12 by leveling up the Community badge.

I already had the treasure hat from the Summer stuff, a bunch of golden tickets, the golden potato, etc. All those events counted. Even my 9 years of service.

So, what sort of rewards are people getting for having all the cards?

You can craft the cards into a badge (which you can keep and put on your profile).

On top of that you can might craft a background and an emoticon of varying rarity. For Dont Starve I did this until Level 4, which was the last level. The backgrounds and emoticons arent selling atm though, so I think the cards are actually worth more than the results of the crafting.

How did you get so many cards? Trading random people, dumping piles of cash into the market?

Bought cards cheap for about 1$, sold background plus emoticon for about the same as the cards cost me (since you only need 5 for Dont starve). Backgrounds for ~2$ and emoticons for ~3$. I didnt make any profit in the end, but it didnt cost me anything either. It had the benefit of pushing me from level 7 to 11 for about 0€ though to get the chance for those foil cards.

*idles in HL2 through the night*

I wish I had bought passes in mass when they were being sold for dimes.
Yeah, I got a bit late into it, but still managed to make 15€ off reselling, which I then invested in the basically free level 4 upgrade for don't starve. Those card prices are going a bit up already though, so it might not be as effective anymore.

Only TF2, HL2 and Portal 2 are shown under "badges" in my profile now for some reason. I idled for about half an hour in Dota 2 and didn't get anything either.

Looks like my Steam cards is bugged. I'm not earning any dota2 cards. Luckily I already made $15 selling cards so I'm happy.

Yea, something's up. All my card panels disappeared from my badges section along with my Steam inventory. Thank goodness I already sold all my cards.

Just so you guys know, at the moment you can buy cards for about £0.75. You need 8 cards to craft (£8 x £0.75 = £6), but you seem to get an emoticon and a background every time you craft, both of which sell for about £5.50 each.

Just figured that I'd put that out there...

You only get DOTA 2 cards if you've purchased something for the game to keep people from farming free copies.

Alright, I'm gonna peer away from watching the market now. Gonna keep what I got and call it that. I've been eyeing it nearly all day, not making a move for the most part.
