Steel Diver: Sub Wars v2.0 update now available.

...and given how (relatively) on the ball the Steel Diver dev team seem to be, I strongly suspect that if player count nosedives and this doesn't have what seems to be the intended effect (to push free players to premium) then they will ease off or reverse the decision.

Heck, they might begin reversing it upon seeing this thread. The CEO of Vitei, one of the studios co-developingSteel Diver: Sub Wars, seems to read this forum, or at least catches wind of the opinions here.
 
Ha! Didn't realise Giles read GAF :-) As I say, they seem relatively agile and interested in the small community around the title, so I wouldn't be surprised to see this "tweaked" if it proves really unsuccessful.

Yeah, this game is absolutely full of things that generally aren't associated with Nintendo (competitively balanced, frequently updated online-centric first person shooter, etc.)

On top of that, this game is a sort of monetization model sandbox for Nintendo, as one of their F2P titles, and a consistently updated one at that.

It's pretty typically Nintendo in terms of approach in a way. If you'd come on here two years ago and told posters that Nintendo was going to release a competitive F2P FPS with a military theme, you'd have had all kinds of predictions, none of which would have hit on the idea of a relatively slow-paced submarine combat game :-D
 
How is 2 play coins per online match somehow strict? Am I the only one constantly stacked with 300 play coins at almost all times? Do I walk around that much?

Sounds like you hardly spend your coins.
You can only get 10 a day.

Yeah beyond the Puzzle and Find Mii minigames, I hardly use them ever. They're never really that useful in a lot of games.

I never walk around with my 3DS as it's way too bulky and I also switch it off to save battery.

Too bulky? I guess...

Don't you just put it back on the charger/cradle (if you have one) once you get home?

A rather interesting unnoticed change is that the spawns on the Hot Springs map changed: Rather than each team spawning in the opposing genders' baths, there's now two submarines of each team per gender division,dividing the map in half between the teams in a different way than before.

This eliminates the fence being a choke point early in the match.
 
I haven't played since 2 weeks after the game was out. Have they fixed the online problems, and is the game still populated enough? Might jump to Premium with this update.
 
Whelp it was fun while it lasted but making people play play coins to play will kill multi player in the long run. If you want to get people to upgrade to the paid version there are much better ways to go about it.

I'm Shannon in-game. At any given time I'm piloting either the Super Cod or various shop vehicles, of which I currently possess an I-400, a Blue Marine, a Sōryū, and a Victor III.

Cool, I'm premium but haven't unlocked too much yet. I mainly like using the classic sub from Steel Diver 1. And I'm usually decked out in Union Jack colours.

Can we at least confirm that the server disconnects are a thing of the past (from previous updates / server upgrades ?

I want to be able to build up a win streak this time.
 
I can see where Nintendo's going with this 2 coin per play thing, as it's pretty much the same as most mobile/facebook games like Candy Crush and Final Fantasy All the Bravest...


.. but with a 10 coin cap a day, 5 plays a day max is horrible.
 

I dunno, this is his excuse for the change. Kinda makes it seem like it was either this or no more online for free players. The least I can ask for is that they bump it down to a 1 Play Coin fee.

Not only are disconnects virtually a nonissue now, but even if you do encounter one, it doesn't disrupt your win streaks!
