Stella has been removed from FFXV; Itamuro writing game; Demo 2 June 9; FFXV not @ E3

Holy shit! 8 minutes lol. That is so creepy. What's with J games and anime and their peeping obsession. It was funny in VII but this is just fucking weird. They forget us females play RPGs too...>.>

If this game is going to have fanservice, I hope it has eye candy for the female audience too.

Yeah, the XV guys are good looking and will no doubt attract some of the yaoi crowd, but even as a woman, I don't want to peep on Prompto taking a shower or whatever lol.

A bit sad on the lost of Stella.T_T

Recently i just went on to watch the difference between Versus 13 and 15. And there are difference which makes me sad. The mech battle looks so nice. And Stella facing head on vs Noctis also is kinda nice as they seems to be interested on each other from the first meeting.T_T

Sad that Nomura is unable to make it work and now we will get something different from what he envision.T_T

Mech battles could still be in. No reason why not.
Even Luna being Noctis' opponent at some point (for the same unknown reason as in Versus) could still be in. Imagine her kingdom, Tenebrae, joining Niflheim and her being forced to fight against Noctis & Co. We don't know ANYTHING. That's why I don't judge already.

Thats the problem, we don't know that's why most of us are worried. We never see Luna being as active as Stella. And now Stella is gone. That's why some of us are not really feeling it now with this game.

And there is almost zero percent Luna is going to be Noctis enemy as the reason for Noctis journey is to meet her. Why should Luna fight with him now?

I don't think Mech and tank battle is going to be in this game anymore here. As if there was that part of battle, i believe S-E would have show us. After who don't want more hype for their game? Jrpg with mech and tanks to use? Thats cool.

Wait, so it's confirmed that Cidney is not Cid? So i guess its the old man she references at the end of the demo?

Also, the last interesting female character i've seen in a FF was Ashe.

Cindy (シドニー, Shidonī?, lit. Cidney) is a character in Final Fantasy XV. She introduces herself to the party as the head mechanic, much like the recurring character from the series, Cid who in this installment is her grandfather.

from the wiki.

Also; in my game she's always Cindy so I keep wondering why everyone refers to her as Cidney. Dub/sub discrepancies?

Well yeah, obviously not. Peeping on Prompto taking a shower would be kind of creepy.

Gladio on the other hand...

Jesus, this fucking game. I've pretty much lost all desire to play it, and now just wish it would come out already so they can move on to something else. Not even bothered about Stella, but the fact that they're still at a development stage where they can cut out someone who seemed like a fairly major character isn't promising. 2017 release?

Hmm. Perhaps it's more that they cut her a while back and are just choosing to announce it now to lessen the sting before they re-hype with E3 info dump.

Oh wait.

I tried really hard to get into ARR ,but the game is very much an MMO that you need actual fun people to play with to enjoy it.

Its really dry and mechanical otherwise.

Its in a different category of games altogether and almost stereotypically MMO.

I would recommend FFXIII(at least the first game) over that game any day as single player FF experience.

Agreed. People recommending it to those who do not like MMOs are misguided. And, holy cats has Blizzard spoiled me wrt customer service, ui, and just general all round end user experience. SE end user experience is painful at times.

Well yeah, obviously not. Peeping on Prompto taking a shower would be kind of creepy.

Gladio on the other hand...

Whenever he helps you defeat a particularly large monster, the player is given the option to softly cleanse the resultant gore and viscera from Gladiolus' naked, wet thighs. This option is also available to Cor when he's in your party, and during his death scene.

It happened last year from what I understand. Which... even then makes you wonder how much is actually done if they decided to mess around with the script around then.

Tabata is the new Toriyama (for Kagari!).
As for me, I welcome every change and decision, because I think it's probably happening just for the better. Also I was not particulary attached to Stella not having seen much of her at all, and Luna can easily replace a non--existing "character" easily. She looks resolute too in that brief scene, and she's also escaping from destruction in an artwork in what looks like a tiring challenging escape for her, making her look quite strong.

Only bad news for me is the lack of E3 promotion sincerely.

Toriyama was just a bad director unfit for the position and someone who fails to understand game design.
Tabata's problem is his uncertain, untruthfulness.

Uuh, she was cut a while back, not now.

I'll never understand the praise for Tabata though. Toriyama's FFX (ok his not only him), FFX-2, FFXIII, XIII-2 and LR are infinitely better games, Final Fantasy(s) and products than Crisis Core, The 3rd Birthday and Type-0. But well, I can't everyone agreeing with me can't I? :P

Infact what concerns me the most at the moment is the strict gameplay of FFXV. Battle system is terrible for now. Fecthing quests all over Duscae also don't make me super hyped. Game is far though, and Duscae can easily become the Ground Zeroes of FF, something not that related to the final game.

These recent revelations didn't surprise me in the slightest. I think his hesitance about outright saying "things have changed from Versus XIII" is from knowing the impending shit storm, not any lack of confidence in the game he's making.

I do agree that he probably should have just gotten it over with earlier.

I enjoyed Type-0 more than any of the XIII games, same with Crisis Core. 3rd Birthday had decent gameplay but was ruined by Toriyama's shoddy story.

I have no problems with the battle system but the game better not be endless fetch quests as a filler excuse for bigger zones.

I mean... yeah. Maybe they had previously reduced her role and then decided to scrap it entirely? It's hard to really know until we have it in our hands, which won't be for a while. It's disconcerting, to say the least. Beginning to feel the same vibes I felt when Staten left Bungie before Destiny dropped. Not good. Not good at all.

Yeah definitely better not... is what usually bores me to death in almost every open world game to tell the truth. I hate fetch quests and mundane tasks. Maybe as an extra it could be fine, but on these "extras" games like Dragon Age Inquisition built an entire game with lame requirements to advance the story. Better drawing inspiration from something else, at the cost of reduced longevity if needed.

This is my biggest worry. I kinda forgive it in the case of Type-0 and Crisis Core, since the quest design in those games were very obviously made with portable gaming in mind to be played in short bursts, but I really hope we actually get proper sidequest content. Relative to the series, I think FFVII still has the best, most organic implementation of sidequest content in the series.

Like... sure they rebooted in 2012 going from PS3 to PS4 and whatnot, the "vision" for that put on display at E3 2013. But what happened between then and 2014? Nomura wanted sequels (World of the Versus Epic, etc), now the sequel idea seems out. I'm guessing Matsuda saw the reaction to the XIII sequels and decided moving on is a better option at this point. SE has never been great with Final Fantasy sequels or prequels so it makes sense to go right to XVI since we've not had an original FF idea since 2006.

Nomura probably wasn't too hot on that idea though, along with the changes made to his original scenario.

I agree with you guys. Tabata is a perverted, immature, evil overlord who scripts his video presentations, crushing fan's dreams and treats them like idiots. He should be kicked out of Square Enix.

Am I right?

The thing I like the most about Tabata is how perverted he is.

You know, I don't like silly stuff like looking up skirts or the peep hole scene in Type-0 (though my 12yo me would have) either, but under this scrutiny a lot of our old favorite games and their directors would crumble. And 95% of Japanese games.
Of course, I'm not saying you shouldn't complain because "things are the way they are, what can you do", no, but at least be so fair and acknowledge that Sakaguchi and Kitase also have green-lit a lot of bad female character designs and jiggling boobs. Cidney would have existed under every other FF director, too.
Before employing sarcasm to defend Tabata, consider this.

In Type-0, you have a quest (in-game activity) in which you peep on a woman in her private quarters. You don't peep on her once, you peep on her multiple times. Each time she gets more and more naked. At the end of the quest she thanks you for helping her, because you spied on her in her private quarters, found her enemy tattoo, and exposed her.

What kind of director approves of this kind of material in a game that doesn't need it to sell? Ah, yes. A 12 year old boy just hitting puberty.

A director can veto the content that goes into his game. That is how Toriyama's ridiculous panty quest in FF7 isn't part of the overarching Wall Market quest in the final product. I can't imagine what sort of impression we're supposed to get of Tabata when he approves of this kind of material.

Mobius FF main character design comes out, many people complain the hell out of it and excuse themselves by saying "it's not the sexual part that is the issue, the design itself is bad!" Fanservicey shit female character design? Hottest thing I've ever seen, I'm interested, etc. Excuses? Well, previous development staff did it too, so it's fine! As if the industry doesn't change or mature over the years. As if those who criticize are excusing older games and directors for it. Well, I don't have a high opinion of Sakaguchi or Kitase and I don't like the fanservice shit of older titles too. So what does that have to do with Tabata being a pervert? Because those other directors did some of it too, Tabata can be excused for being even more egregious and having a female character essentially thank her peeper for peeping on her? What year is it?

I understand fanservice and shit female character design are apparently staples of the Japanese game industry. It's not going to change unless the developers stop aiming at otaku, hoping that that niche crowd would pay a premium and that will make back development costs, as opposed to aiming at a wider audience and maybe net more sales. But hell, Type-0 had "Final Fantasy" in the title and didn't need bullshit fanservice to sell, and that garbage ended up in there anyway. So what is the defense?

I welcome the idea handling all of FFXV's story in one big game.

I won't complain about the absence of Stella since she is a character we knew nothing about. For now I am looking forward to play ED2.0.

This is one of my main concern for XV. Nobody has come out and explain their stance on quest and all the talk about making huge pieces of land only makes it easier to fall back on the rinse and repeat fetch quests and collectathon to fill the lands. Not to mention Duscae region in the demo is so damn flat in terms of level design and uninteresting looking.

Nomura probably wasn't too hot on that idea though, along with the changes mad to his original scenario.

Nomura's scenario, like you said, included sequels. His vision was likely far too large for a single game. Sequel baiting characters, plot threads, etc all would need to be re-written or re-interpreted.

They definitely picked a new direction to go with the game when they announced the first major reshuffling. That direction was clearly a self-contained story/game. If they had a script since 2006, odds are it isn't going to still hold up now nearly 10 years later, so it needs to be updated. New games came out, new reactions to what SE had put out in the interim/etc all lead to these changes.

Wouldn't have been an issue if they dropped it in 2008/9/10. Slightly more of an issue after the reboot in 2012. I think a lot of people agree this is one of the most important Final Fantasy titles to come out probably since 7. A lot is riding on the success of this game, I think. Maybe that sentiment is a bit overblown, but I still think it's rather true. That's probably why they're handling it so carefully with the feedback, demo updates, all that shit. It feels like they need it to be a success in the West.

Anyway, my main thinking is that unless the script got a total rewrite and is coherent and "original" then it's going to suffer from too many cooks in the kitchen. So you see characters get cut. So you see ideas get cut. So you see scenes get cut. Maybe it doesn't fit the vision of what XV turned into. It's sad. It's always sad. However, an important part of the creative process is the willingness to change what you have done. Good/bad/whatever, it feels like that's what has happened to XV. It has a new direction and I think it has a rather well developed one. Whether it will be better or worse than the original Versus XIII would have been is anyone's guess.

My fear is that the script is far too damaged and far too old and is trying to keep too much of everyone who has touched it over the years for it to be anywhere near competent. I think that's a very rational fear.

Biggest worry here. Demo's already showed us how something cool as monster hunting was simply going in few places marked on the map and watch a small cutscene.
I'm not expecting TW3 level of side-quests, but Ubisoft-style neither. Fewer, more fleshed out ones would be a-ok.

exactly why I said by the time a hypothetical XVI does get release Noctis and Lightning will be well over a decade old as the faces of final fantasy. I would be shocked if XVI came out before KH3. KH3 has to atleast be a 2017 or 2018 title at minimum. I cant see SE releasing them both at the same time in the same year. They might try and get KH3 out by their 15th anniversary in 2017 but knowing SE they will delay it.

I hope the towns/cities aren't disappointing

Lestallum looks great...I love that Havana vibe

Yup, also my biggest concern.

There needs to be options to disable the hand holding. Quest markers, mini-map etc.....

In case you meant me: maybe you mixed up my post with the others. I wasn't sarcastic and I'm not defending silly stuff like in Type-0, obviously. I'm just saying it wouldn't be fair to only call out Tabata for this stuff and act as if he's the first one to bring crap like that into the series. It's a widespread problem and you already mentioned the reason (otaku audience).

In my post you quoted I literally said:
[...] Of course, I'm not saying you shouldn't complain because "things are the way they are, what can you do", no, but at least be so fair and acknowledge that Sakaguchi and Kitase also have green-lit a lot of bad female character designs and jiggling boobs. [...]
Japanese devs should definitely be challenged to improve in that regard, primarily those who want to target the western market successfully.
Obviously small Japanese studios will still target the otaku crowd to survive.

We don't know how much of this stuff will be in a mainline FF, so we should wait with the judgement. We have only seen one character design like Cidney (not unlike any other FF so far at least). The rest could be good, who knows.

Now I hope we get Johnny John Bosch as Noctis.

This has been one of my greatest fears for this game for years now.
Johnny Bosch or Yuri Lowenthal for Noctis would be the ultimate generic choice. Lowenthal less so, but it'd still hurt the character from the outset, to me.

Thank goodness Square specifically seems to go for underused VAs for their mainline FF protagonists.

Seriously. I could not *stand* Johnny Bosch as Noctis.

I just hope people keep their expectations in check on the size of the explorable towns and cities. Last time I was chatting with a friend he said he expected Accordo to be the size of Los Santos....

It's nice but I still hope you can explore Insomnia.

I swear they said so in the ATR.

I just hope people keep their expectations in check on the size of the explorable towns and cities. Last time I was chatting with a friend he said he expected Accordo to be the size of Los Santos....

Man that would be a useless waste of resources.
Can't think of any comparison honestly, maybe WKC, FFXII or DQVIII.
No need to be gigantic, just enough to freely wander but without it being pointless.
NPC density and variety, hidden secrets and actual activities are much morei mportant than size.
