Stellaris - Paradox Dev Studios new sci-fi grand strategy game

Someone went through the source code (paradoxplaza.com/stellaris) and found the value 39.99 mentioned. After it was pointed out, the code was changed to 1.
Code:
<div class="hidden"><span itemprop="price">1</span><span itemprop="priceCurrency">EUR</span>
.
So what does that mean? That the game might be releasing soon and they already have the price locked down?

Doesn't mean much. 40 seems to be the standard Paradox price point for their games. Crusader Kings and EU4 are the same, HOI4 will probably also be that.

That's the assumption. There's even a countdown in the source code.
I missed the countdown stuff. That is interesting. If this releases this week, I'll be very happy.

The page redirects to the main Paradoxplaza site now for me, did they remove it?

That video makes it sound like the game is really close to completion. Late stages of development, working on bugs, balance, etc.

Edit: man, reading the dev diaries was one thing, but seeing in action is another. This looks amazing.

Man, between No Man's Sky and Stellaris, 2016 is a good year for sci-fi games

So whatever is at the conference tonight, presumably some more stuff and maybe some stuff from Lets Players tomorrow, then I guess a live Lets Play on Thursday? Seems crazy if this isn't launching relatively soon.

That video is making it look like my literal dream game. Can't handle this wait, hnngghh. I love 4x space games but often I feel that new games in the genre don't really advance it, just copy older ones with very safe choices.

I hope they don't tune up the hype, the fans are already foaming. They might physically kill their entire fanbase with too much hype.

It's not coming *too* soon. That's clear from the video and the stuff they say they're still working in like the additional victory v conditions.

I'd guess around May.

Thank you, I quite did!

Interesting that they're positioning the game as a 4X / Grand Strat hybrid, with early game more dedicated to 4X & GS for mid/late.

Looks like they're trying to broaden their audience via accessibility while claiming to maintain the depth & complexity Paradox fans crave. Sounds like a tight line to take, but I think it's a smart move as the Paradox name is now big enough to usher in a larger crowd if they can just lower the entry bar enough to welcome them.

The game remains one of my most anticipated releases of the year.

The big thing that makes it more 4x in the beginning seems to be even starts (barring Fallen Empires, which are even bigger than I thought they'd be), and an increased level of granularity to stuff like resources, building, research, etc. It's arguably more of a question of adding the 4x feature set to their tradition grand strategy gameplay than walking a line at all.

They said the same for EU4 which is way more accessible then EU3 but keeps it complexity.

Maybe it's because they're investing more time into developing tutorials this time?

Damn it. I have to get up at 7 tomorrow and I'm already really tired. I have faith that waiting for the stream and watching it live will be worth the waith though.

Watching this video, Stellaris borrows a lot from Distant Worlds. Exploration and combat are very similar, which is great IMO, because I enjoy DW combat more any expansion game besides Total War. The right mix of preparation and positioning with lots of room to experiment.

I also like how you have to establish "contact" with new races and it doesn't just seem to be a pop-up with a generic greeting.

New trailer is up on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJYRLFvJVFg

I have reached maximum hype.

Spacefox is the most adorable thing I've ever seen btw

There is no gameplay trailer or something like that out there, is it?
I like space games but I have never played a Grand Strategy game so I have actually no idea what you actually do in them.
Need to go to bed now though

40 minutes of stuff :D

A lot of it isn't really representative of moment-to-moment gameplay sadly, but he goes over most of the basic features.

edit: beaten dammit.

I saw the trailer, and woooooo! at finally having a release date, but did we get any other goodies? :D

My excitement for this got me to install CK2 again. And once again, I stare at the screen as I go through the tutorial

Idk, something about Stellaris is much more appealing and seems more user-friendly. But I really want to get into CK2

Well, first off, get the hell out of the tutorial, that thing's useless. Watch a couple of Let's Plays or pick some innocuous Irish count and just start poking around the interface.

But Stellaris is going to be a much easier thing for grand strategy newbs to pick up and play because the scale of it is much smaller at the beginning. Far less to worry about and manage at first.

That really is a great trailer.

By all accounts, Stellaris is the space game everyone's been waiting for since the beginning. I'm so looking forward to it.

CK2 isn't something you understand so much as stumble through. It's a lot like life, really.

Endless Space 2 will be a different beast I'm sure, but I'm definitely feeling more Stellaris hype right now. Never really could get into a Paradox game before, but the sci-fi setting over the historical one works for me.

Crusader Kings 2 is my favorite game of all time

Sci-fi is my favorite genre

I cannot properly articulate my feelings. I think my first faction will be the Mushroom Star Kingdom.

The tutorial is not very helpful. I recommend this series of tutorial videos, it helped me a lot getting into the game and understanding the core mechanics.

Aww yisssss, into my VEINS

God damn. How am I going to enjoy summer outdoors with games like this, No mans Sky, and darksouls 3. I'm starting to foam at the mouth.

So I just watched the 10 minute Polygon video (I will watch the 40 minute one later, but I need to leave soon)
Obviously nobody here has played it, but so far it sounds a lot like Civilization in realtime and with no tiles)? Am I completely wrong with that? Not saying it's 1:1 but it sounds very similar to me, so far.

We got a title for OT1:

We'll get more goodies today and tomorrow.

Oh my yes.

You're not completely wrong, and you're more on-point with regards to Stellaris' early game than you would be otherwise, but it's got more in common with other space 4X titles than Civilization.
