Stellaris - Paradox Dev Studios new sci-fi grand strategy game

Stellaris Dev Diary #31 - Modding art
We have recently worked on support for static galaxies. This will allow users to create a specific galaxy to use for specific scenarios. In this test we have more than 5000 stars, which still renders smoothly. Might have to optimize the game a bit though

eddit: damnit beaten by 2 minutes :p

I don't think I've ever wanted something as much as that 5000 star map. Man that looks amazing. Just the sheer scale and amount of stuff that could happen in that world.

We will also release our .mesh format, so anyone with the skills can write an exporter for other software, like blender.
Fantastic news this. Was hoping they'd have a standalone exporter ready at launch (Maya only) so this is a great approach by PDS.

This could be so cool if it's correct! I'd be more than fine with it if the physical results of genetic engeneering don't go beyond a couple of skin colours that are exclusive to the mutants but it would definitely be incredibly awesome if the differences in appearance due to genetic engeneering are this severe.

Damn, this game!

I have two weeks off when Stellaris comes out, so enough time to conquer or get conquered in space.
I have to think when I start watching the MP event. I am at work while they are streamed, so I have to watch when I am home. What I will be watching is the content from Quill. He hinted that there will be Stelarris from him on the 5th and 6th.

The couple of streamers that have the game are allowed to start streaming on the 5th so I imagine we'll start getting a steady amount of Stellaris content from that day on. I usually enjoy watching Quill and Arumba. Arumba can be kind of an ass at times, but nothing too bad and Quill sometimes has annoying guests but I like him when he's on his own.
Oh and I think Scott Manley has the game as well, he's a pretty cool dude.

Think Marbozir also has a copy, who I really like. Him and Quill do fun co-op games sometimes so I hope they will here too.

This seems really cool but i wonder if it is enjoyable for someone who has never played grand strategy games or if it would just confuse me and give me a headache.

I guess a good tutorial could help.

This one has an in-game tutorial, which was much needed but I'm unsure on how good it will be. The tutorials in previous Paradox game do next to nothing to help you actually play the game. YouTube has plenty of great tutorials, I find the ones where a person just plays a country and explains what he's doing at each step to have helped me the most when I first started.

For Stellaris you'll have to wait a bit for YouTube to catch up, though.

You start out small in Stellaris, so it doesn't feel as unmanageable as say a game of EU IV where you start as France. You get access to more options as the game progresses instead of throwing everything at you from the start.

Yeah, it seems like the format will make it easier to guide players through the mechanics in a more ordered manner going from least to most complex gameplay

Somehow I got hyped yesterday and rewatched some of the Stellaris content shown thus far. To bad I am at work right now and can't watch. Lets' hope the vods are available when I get home this evening.
On the bright sight, tomorrow is my last work day before my vacation. Will have the rest off the week and the following two weeks off. Yeah!

Times like these actually make me almost semi-happy to be unemployed and living of disibilities. I'll have all the time in the world

Stream should start any minute now...

They know how to keep me waiting on the edge of my seat.

Pre-ordered shares in Paradox now, they will be listed in Sweden at the end of May. The multiplayer streaming is quite delayed now though.

Welp, jumped on the Nova edition - the sample tracks are good. Cannot wait to get obliterated as I have only played Civ in the easiest settings :)

ROFLMAO @ Sol III's history in this universe. (They said it differs per universe, it's not always like this)

Earth destroyed itself and Cockroaches are pre-sentient beings that are thriving.

Hope they expand the maximum galaxy size at one point, I'd like a significantly bigger one allowing for more AIs in addition to human players.

I'm super pumped for this.

The historical setting in vanilla CK2 bored me quickly but the Game of Thrones mod was and continues to be amazing with 100+ hours logged on steam for me.

I've never tried the other games from Paradox but this looks to scratch so many itches for me.

Forgive my ignorance. I am knew to something like this.
How does multiplayer work?
Does everybody start at zero, or can you enter with stats built from single player?

I'm also having fun deliberating over my build right now before something overpowered is identified and spread across forums.

For my empire I'm aiming towards a Pacifistic Science Utopia. I'll be learning a lot on my initial playthrough and mistakes will be made.
