Why did McCain choose her anyway

He was desperate for some sort of novelty to give him an edge over Obama, as he was seen as just "more of the same" after Bush. On paper a relatively unknown, conservative, female governor with a good approval rating seemed like a pretty strong potential X-factor.

While McCain likely would have never won, regardless of running mate (which he probably knows), I have little doubt he sees that one as the biggest mistake of his political career, for more reasons than a botched presidential bid.

Now, if she was like an Andy Kaufman character, then, yeah, that's entertaining. But she's just a monumentally stupid person who's been given a platform that she hasn't earned, doesn't deserve, and can't possibly live up to. She's more successful than any of us will ever be because morons love to see a successful idiot. That's not entertaining, it's fucking infuriating. The only entertainment to be derived is when people like Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart point to it and go, "really, this?"
