Stephen Colbert destroys Sarah Palin (video)

Why did McCain choose her anyway

He was desperate for some sort of novelty to give him an edge over Obama, as he was seen as just "more of the same" after Bush. On paper a relatively unknown, conservative, female governor with a good approval rating seemed like a pretty strong potential X-factor.

On paper.

While McCain likely would have never won, regardless of running mate (which he probably knows), I have little doubt he sees that one as the biggest mistake of his political career, for more reasons than a botched presidential bid.

ooooooooh so that's what she says.

Are you a Palin-to-English translator? When I heard the whole thing I know she was saying wrongs but couldn't follow anything.

--

Anyway is she saying that Syria crisis and whatever, US shouldn't get involved at all? If so, how is the US going to destroy ISIS?

what the fuck are you doing thinking in here

So we all agree that she is literally going insane? Some how I can see her on the side of the street with a cardboard sign claiming that fabreeze is controlling our minds

Why would he remove fixtures from the White House which presumably the next person in office would need?

she's referring to his iconic Denver speech.

edit: never mind, seems the columns have come out a few times. I wonder if they're just fabric over metal frame or wood, or what?

Colbert managed to reference both the TV cut of Snakes on Plane, and Alan Ginsberg in that mind-bogglingly brilliant performance.

That was Stephen at this absolute best.

It's so perfectly accurate to what I was thinking when I heard her talking. She's impossible to follow so I don't know what the fuck she's talking about.

She's an entertainer. That was entertaining.

She's not entertaining in and of herself. Like, if I paid money to see her speak and I got that, I'd think... what the fuck was that? Now, if she was like an Andy Kaufman character, then, yeah, that's entertaining. But she's just a monumentally stupid person who's been given a platform that she hasn't earned, doesn't deserve, and can't possibly live up to. She's more successful than any of us will ever be because morons love to see a successful idiot. That's not entertaining, it's fucking infuriating. The only entertainment to be derived is when people like Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart point to it and go, "really, this?"

But he didn't just quote her. He mocked her. Mercilessly.

Are you sure? I got the impression he was just quoting her.

Edit:
Just to clarify, I'm joking. I'm suggesting that I couldn't tell the difference between her clips and his parody.

I mean, yes. Destroyed. And yet no one's opinion of her was affected in the least. Like the people voting for Trump are like wow, I didn't realize that, thanks Colbert.

Absolutely. A sign that his writer's room is full of well-read nerds, and that is fantastic.

This just makes me miss the Report and the Colbert character. He'd have gone a week on her speech alone and had new material each day.

To be fair, Trump supporters don't watch Colbert. They watch select episodes of Fox & Friends and repeats of The Apprentice. Also, strangely, My Little Pony.

She and a lot of other Republicans propably think that "talking smart" is just using overwrought, incomprehensible sentences. They don't realize that those sentences need to make any sense and only seem incomprehensible because they are either too fucking dumb or think their voters are too stupid to notice anyway. Or both.

I know what she said, I don't know what she means.

What the fuck is a "squirmish"? Why does she do quotation fingers when she says it?
Probably wants to make it sound like an insult.

Why is Trump tapping Palin, anyway? He's ahead in the polls, he has no need for her brand of folksy nonsense when his own is doing so well.

As I said above, Iowa. He doesn't need it, but Trump wants to "win them all" cuz he's a winner. He wins.

This is one of the reasons why I love Colbert so much and why I'm glad Palin is nailn' Trump to be the next President. We'll get a good 10 months out of this train before it crashes into the most spectacular wreck imaginable. Jokes all the way down.

It almost never happen that I physically cringe so much that I hold a hand in front of my eyes but that's what happened when I saw Palin doing her Palin show.

Thanks Stephen

I can't wait for Trump to declare that having a running mate for V.P is too much a part of "the establishment" and then announce that he will forgo his campaign without one.

Will leave Palin legit rekt, after thinking she had actually been offered a second chance to brighten her legacy.

Btw, if GOP hate lazy people and quiters so much why do they love Palin who is too lazy to put any thought into the things she says and also quit the job of being government, while not even fulfilling the full term?

More reasonable than any Republic IMO

His environmental policy may be suspect, always it being better under the sea - for global warming?

They overlook that last bit because she was going around spreading her folky nonsense

Has Colbert jumped back to being Colbert!? I stopped watching his new show after the first week as he seem to be playing it tame. But this segment felt strait up Colbert Report.
