Street Fighter 5 for PS4 & PC teaser trailer

No no no, I'm saying anyone that thinks they have the money to do so are being naive and/or foolish.

Anyone who thinks a game developer/publisher has the money to develop/publish a game is being naive? What if they had the money but would rather use Sony's to pay for part of development/marketing? Does that make everything okay? What if they made...wait for it...a business decision that they thought was the best financially for them?

A new SF game is exciting but I share the worry and concern with the models and lighting and sound looking very much like a rush job using preexisting assets.

Fundamentally though there are some promising signs in that footage.

The console discussion is so bizarre now we are a year in. We have a very dominant console this time around and it is almost certain to stay that way. What's more interesting to me is that it isn't coming to Wii U.

Well Deep Down is co-developed with Japan Studio, REmake HD is just a cheap HD up port and RER2 is episodic so I would say that it doesn't struck me has weird with what Capcom is currently doing. And let's not forget Dead Rising 3 and that they wouldn't localize MH4 ultimate in the west so Nintendo had to do it.

Wait, they really refused to localise MH4?

Oh, Capcom. How far you've fallen.

Why? Unless you have some serious insight into their inner workings, how can you possible say either way?

Its all guesswork based on context and conjecture. Would you say Capcom has been knocking it out of the park the past few years financially? Many would say they haven't.

but...
I could be wrong and it would be completely hypocritical for me to denounce MS and their actions with TR and not do the same with Sony if its a similar situation.

The thing is it doesn't fucking matter jesus christ. It either makes business sense or it doesn't, these companies don't owe shit to you or anybody. Say if GTA now went exclusive, that would be some dumbass shit right there. There's legitimacy in discussing that.

There ain't no good and evil here, and it's tiresome to see the morality behind "exclusives" being debated. You walked into a store and you made a choice, which comes with consequences.

Which came out after.

PC ports that come out after games take minimal cost. As you saw with Sony and Double Fine and Grim Fandango, there isn't some anti-PC sentiment there.

That said, if this WAS considerably funded by Sony, they would be trumpeting that. This just seems like a business decision that Capcom made.

idk there was a ps4 at the beginning of that video

So take this with a grain of salt but I just heard from a friend that its basically the situation with Dead Rising. Ono was asked a while ago if he was working on SF5 and he said that Street Fighter though his biggest passion at Capcom isn't getting the greenlight and that it was a miracle he got to make 4.

Sony swooped in. Funded. Now we have SF5
Same with Dead Rising relatively successful IP for Capcom but not where they want to leverage their resources.
Microsoft swoops in. Funds. Dead Rising 3.
Interesting. :o

It's not hard to see the difference. PS4 is the market leader with a 14-15m install base. If any console exclusivity makes sense, it does for the PS4.

Denying the majority of gamers by putting games exclusively on consoles with smaller userbases is also obviously gonna cause a storm as more people are denied the game and pissed off.

"Denied" a game?

These are products; we don't have any 'right'to them. Such entitlement.

Media companies make exclusive deals all the time. See Netflix with Marvel properties.

Fuck... 84 pages already. How much of it has been vague blanket accusations of hypocrisy so far then? :)

100 pages by midnight?

guess this is the game that will make me buy a ps4. was kinda hoping the much fabled capcom all stars vs game.

Capcom is just so damn weird. That's the biggest thing I take from all this. Capcom's just weird.
They are, but this is the first time Capcom has made a big ip exclusive to the dominant console, it's usually the other way around
So this ain't weird, it's logical for once.

1. It didn't reinvigorate the fighting game scene, its always been there, it only made Street Fighter and Capcom relevant again.

Sorry, that's incorrect. The FGC was practically all SFIII, Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for several years and numbers were pretty stagnant. Once SFIV came about we saw a boom in entrant numbers, stream viewers, and interest in fighting games. Once Marvel 3 and MK9 came out a few years later then there were tournaments with thousands of competitors instead of hundreds (pre-SFIV days). Since then EVO is consistently breaking records yearly for number of attendants and USFIV almost broke 2,000 entrants this year alone.

SFIV gave the FGC a shot in the arm, make no mistake about it, or, at the very least, in the US. The games that have come out since it have kept interest in FGs high for people that don't like SF/Capcom games or just like Anime/NRS/3D more.

Edit: Also, just "being there" doesn't mean something can't be reinvigorated. Boxing is always "there" but there are matches and stories that reinvigorate the sport giving it a boost of interest. Whether it sustains it is different.

Aren't they working together on the Phanta Rhei engine or whatever it's called? Perhaps it's not as crazy if that's taken into account as well.

Good decision by Sony to swoop in and fund this though. SF is still pretty big in the competitive scene, could see this being a pretty big boon for Sony going forward...

The now have most of the fighting game fans who going to join PS+.
It's very big win for them .

I disagree here. The FGC was in the dark ages until IV Twitch came out.

IV only helped Street Fighter. Then after that, just like after every new entry of a fighting game, a decline of players.

There was a lot more that contributed to the stability of the FGC besides SFIV. To credit it all to SFIV is kinda flawed.

Even this post is proof that SF mostly helped Capcom more than anything. Also you're missing SNK.

EDIT: And all of these tangents aside how does that contribute to Street Fighter IV being a great fighting game? It just means that people recognized it and played it.

Anyone who thinks a game developer/publisher has the money to develop/publish a game is being naive? What if they had the money but would rather use Sony's to pay for part of development/marketing? Does that make everything okay?

Anyone that doesn't think Capcom would take free cash the instant its on the table is naive. Street Fighter fans would be willing to shell out money for a new console to play SFV, Sony and Capcom know this, they'll both win in this scenario. Capcom thinks there are enough casual fighting game fans on the PS4 to get plenty of sales, combine that with the cash Sony throws at them.

The amount of cash Sony offered is viewed as a better deal than having the game also be developed for the Xbone.

What if they made...wait for it...a business decision that they thought was the best financially for them?

And the deal itself would be sweeter if Capcom was shaky financially. Don't know what your point is. Capcom hasn't released a new heavy hitter in years.

Are you seriously thinking that Sony is funding the game ?

The sole existence of the PC version invalid this argument...

Yes, I think Sony has a stake in the development of this game. I do not believe Sony or Microsoft see higher end PC as direct competition. Aka PS4 only indies, Ryse, DR3, and Titan Fall are on PC comfortably with no opposing console version in sight.

I think we'll be seeing more major 3rd party games being console/timed exclusive due to various economic factors this gen.

The people getting the best software selection this gen will be PC gamers.

Some people want to turn every thing into a "cause" and have been playing Boy who cried wolf with the term "anti-consumer" for a while now. Might as well start calling this "exclusivity-gate".

It got casuals interested in FG's again. It also took Evo from hundreds of entrants and viewers to 10's of thousands if you include the online viewership. I understand you may not like it, but please give it its due.

Honestly, I hope that there is cross-play for this game. I really don't wanna buy two versions of this game if I don't have too. I need my PC mods so I can have my custom music for each stage.

I've never bought into the idea that Sony is so poor they couldn't afford to buy exclusivity. It was always a matter of the right game at the right time, never about them not having the money to do it.

Having said that, I believe you. You haven't been wrong yet, so I'll concede that it might not be the scummy and disgusting tactic of paying to keep the game off other platform/s that I initially thought it would be.

What's weird is that they can afford to do Deep Down, RER2, REmake HD and possibly DD Online and yet SF5 was seemingly going to be left out in the cold unless someone else funded it?

That's just weird.

So who is publishing the game? Sony? Capcom?
With SFV we have a producer on record saying it wasn't likely until 2018, meaning they just didn't have the funds or manpower to start full development on it yet, but with the Sony deal they do, but this might also come at the cost of it not being as big a leap as people would be expecting. Things in that trailer are obviously able to be changed, but it looks like it's being built off of SF4's framework. Ryu's EX hurricane kick is the same as it was in SF4. Hell, I'm willing to bet some of the assets in the stage shown are taken from RE6 as well, since it looks really similar to China from RE6.

My worry is the game is ultimately being rushed a bit because of the deal between Sony and Capcom. SFV would have been made regardless, but I'm willing to bet that the game went into full production earlier than planned.

Thats how it works. User says something outlandish or claims its true. Mod swoops in and says show me your proof or your banned.

Yeah I want a behind the scenes documentary on this whole process, sounds interesting

Like does bish have a machine he cross checks employee data bases??

I mean, I know that the user has to provide evidence, but are other users subsequently messaged when Bish says, "check your PMs", so as to have other people validate the user as well, and not just Bish?

If Sony is really funding this game (so if it's not the case, the game doesn't exist), how the hell they can let the game on a another plateform ?

Oh man what do you think guys should I break this down for him?
I don't think I have seen this question come up since the early Halo days.

How the F does PC get a port yet xbox one doesn't? That shit is just blowing my mind right now. Can't wait to see what capcom has in store for V. SF4 was one of my favorite games of last generation.

Sony could be paying them not to release on Xbox One?

Anyone that doubts Capcom didn't have the money to make SFV are being naive and/or foolish. Dragon's Dogma underperformed for them, DmC underperformed, Lost Planet 3 bombed, Remember Me bombed, RE6 cost them a shitload of money to develop. Capcom took huge hits during the end of last gen.

Street Fighter and Monster Hunter were the most consistent money makers for them last gen.

I agree. And I think what most posters on here don't realize, is that most Japanese 3rd party publishers like Capcom aren't exactly big financially nowadays. Making newer games on consoles nowadays costs a shit ton to make more so than ever before.

Were if it not for Microsoft's involvement, we wouldn't have seen DeadRising 3. Without Nintendo's involvement, we wouldn't have seen Bayonetta 2. And without Sony's involvement, we wouldn't have seen games like Demon's Souls, Bloodborne, Street Fighter V, & probably Deep Down.

Because no one owns PC, & that PC isn't exactly a direct competitor.
