Street Fighter 5 for PS4 & PC teaser trailer

Big difference, was that Rise of the Tomb Raider was a multiplatform game from the get-go before MS secured it as a timed exclusive.

Street Fighter V is different.

How is it different? Street fighter IV was on 360 and PS3. Fans are on both. If Sony paid to keep it away from Xbox fans then it is the same as TR.

SF is not a rip off imo. The costumes are, but the base game isn't. SFIV was rather filled with content, compared to quite a bit of other fighters or games in general. Super wasn't full price and you got a slew of extra characters, stages and other things. With Arcade Edition shit got a bit out of hand though, I was burnt out by then. Ultra however was probably nice for the fans, but SFV should've been their focus by then.

I think SFV should avoid coming up with 4 upgrades though. SFIV managed to bring street fighter back in the picture, but I think a lot of those consumers lost interest when the third update was announced. I was happy to see 2d fighting games making a comeback, but I think the lot of SF and especially the MvC3 practices hurt the genre. I do think Capcom learnt from their SF x Tekken and MvC train wrecks though.

Do we honestly know that Street Fighter V was never originally planned as a game coming to XB1 too?

People honestly think Sony paid Capcom solely to stop/not begin developing this game on a competitor's platform?

Is everyone forgetting the financial shambles that company is in right now? There isn't an executive in the world that would give the thumbs up on a deal like that right now in their state.

I would love it if MS tries to retaliate by making MK X exclusive.

Its the 90s fighting-game wars all over again!

That would literally cause the biggest fucking shitstorn of all time.

MS paying so a company cancels an already announced (not to mention its the only playable version of it to public) version of a game?

Yeah... holy shit that would cause so much salt and anger its not even funny.

MK X already has a co-marketing agreement with Sony I think (they got the "exlcusive" reveal earlier this year (probably nothing major though). #rollseyes

The salt is amazing ... more than I expected tbh.

DR3 anyone?

Even more recently ROTR?

As much as I despise 3rd party exclusives, even temporary (there is 0 reasons for them, with the sole excpetion of "otherwise it wouldn't get made", which in 99% is imo a BS excuse to start with, cf ROTR), if MS is going to play that way, there is little room to complain about Sony going toe to toe and fighting fire with fire... Unfortunately.

So why are you saying this here? It's not as though Microsoft is the one complaining here. It is the people these companies want to sell games to. So yes, there is a lot of room to complain.

Sure, if you are ok with Sony paying to keep some people from playing the game.

Business is business. It is a good move for Sony. I just hope people that get mad at MS for this kind of thing do the same with Sony.

I'm already reading on some other forums that "MS started it first" and so it doesn't seem a lot of the same people are upset this time around

?

How is this any different?

Do you have proof that RoT planet of the..... err tomb raider still the stupidest fucking name I have seen for a video game was coming to PS4? They announced no platforms when they showed it at E3.

Not to mention SF4 came out on 360

I see this as more of a Titanfall situation. Where the game was going through a financial crisis and Microsoft gave funding in exchange for exclusivity. I mean I don't see why Ono would lie about not having the budget to make Street Fighter V.

I bet Dragon's Dogma 2 or Resident Evil 7

Capcom gotta spread the love
0% chance of happening. Franchise notoriously associated with Sony + rather toxic rep it's gotten w/ the newer games = MS not being silly enough to buy it no matter how much money they have or how low the offer goes.

RE needs to redeem itself before anybody bothers wanting to pay up for it as an exclusive.

If it was just PS4 and not XB1, that would be one thing. Being on PC and PS4, but not XB1... that's fishy. I'll buy into the story for Bayonetta and Bloodborne. They're not on PC and never will be.

They've gone and done it... they've gone and woke the sleeping dragon now.

Sony should have left well enough alone and now they're going to get it. It's not enough that they're bleeding benjamins from practically every crevice of their existence. Now they go and throw immense moneyhats at a niche game like Street Fighter just to piss off the market. Why pay to keep a game out of the hands of as many gamers as possible? Why not put that money into first-party studios and games instead?

I know, I know... this is the way the business goes as they say. Well, they forced Microsoft's hands with their early sales lead and Microsoft only responded with an NPD whooping (source: musings thread) by way of incredible deals and value. Microsoft will undoubtedly follow this announcement up with some real megatons of their own.

Gears remake collection. A true Banjo sequel. Halo 5 beta in the hands of gamers. The next Bayonetta, Dead Space and Crysis as exclusives. Those are the kinds of blockbuster response announcements I expect, and then some. You hit Microsoft with a jab, you best be ready for a flurry of uppercuts coming at you in response.

From waking the dragon to the use of "moneyhats" to the jab & uppercut puns to the insinuation that game announcements are treated as sporadic volleys of ammunition, this is the most ridiculous and best post on GAF I have ever seen.

Pure Speculation here, but Maybe Sony helps with Manpower and a little bit of Tech.
I hope I remember correctly, that the Pantha Rey Engine had a lot of help from Sony. Maybe it is a thank you from Capcom, so they can get the game out quicker.

Second speculation. The Fighting community is a very intense one, but I don't think too big, when you look at hardcore players. By dividing that Community it gets even smaller and the purpose of fighting and to mess each other in a Game gets lost. We know from a lot of devs that Mircosoft is very restrictive, when it comes to crossplatfrom gaming. Eventually Capcom and Sony don't want to split the Com and allow PC / Ps4 crossplat gaming, where Microsoft didn't. To not split the Community and have a common ground Cap decided to go exclusiv ?

I would have said there was 0% chance that sf would go exclusive. ..yet here we are.

Things in that trailer are obviously able to be changed, but it looks like it's being built off of SF4's framework.

Well the SF series has a long, long, long history of re-using assets between releases, this wouldn't surprise me.

For example the sprites used for the original Street Fighter II were still in use (with tiny colour variations) in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, 3 years and 4 games later.

People also seemed pretty fine during the PS2/xbox/GC era as well.

The internet wasn't close to what it is in any of those eras, I didn't learn about the TR/GTA deals Sony did until last year. Now every little thing can be scrutinized by anyone for the whole world to see, it's different than the NES/Sega days of just grabbing a magazine to read news and buying whatever game you wanted oblivious to any deals that may or may not have gone on.

But never from a numbered release to the next.

I was saying that there was never an official statement from Capcom on which platforms Street Fighter V will appear on until today. But Clue #1 was from Sony on the "Hadouken Cabs trailer," mostly as a hint that something like this game will be exclusive to them (shown here).

I'm not, which is my point. I don't really get why this is such a thing when it's been a thing.

Because a lot of people didn't know it was a thing and, even if they did, who would they tell besides buddies or people they meet at a convention or something? I can make a post on Neogaf in a thread that will get tens of thousands of views, people weren't capable of reaching tens of thousands of ears (or eyes as it were) back then.

So if MS buys the next Fallout or any other past multiplat that has not confirmed platforms then it is ok?

I have to wonder why people(or why the reactions in the threads are different) think that the reason behind Street Fighter being exclusive is more nobler than TR 2 when we really have no solid info about either of them. I see reasons why both publishers would have seeked out excess funding for their games yet(Capcom poor, TR taking forever to profit) yet Capcom is using the money to develop the game while SE is using the money apperently to build money pools where they can light money cigars while various Lighting Cosplayers dance around them.
I believe both could have fund it themselves but could is a much different word that would even if they are mostly the same letters.

I just want another Virtua Fighter...with Quest Mode...

virtua-fighter-5-20070126005547405-000.jpg

Or put a Quest-Like mode in any other Fighting game.

Don't make my hope this supports AI Players and has AI Tourneys please...

Don't worry I'm going to take a wild guess that this is a Japan exclusive

Not too sure why they would put a fighter as an exclusive, none of them are really strong pullers for anyone that I know

Sure fun to mess around with etc, but not something I would go out my way to buy a certain console for

Because while I lament the existence of 3rd party exclusives overall, it is silly to think that if a company is doing it by the truck load (MS), its direct competition (Sony) shouldn't do it ... because reasons.

If anything, the reluctance of Sony to spend money on this kind of endeavors has led to the (beyond stupid) "PSx has no Games" meme.

Is it stupid to spend money for this kind of shit?
Yes.

Does it make sense if your competition is trying to gain traction to respond to fire by fire?
Probably. In a business sense.

Now all this being said, we don't even know the kinks of the deal. So ... yeah.

Is it ok for a grown man to pee his pants a little bit in excitement?

As Bish stated, the weekend is really going to test the NeoGaf servers. I think that speaks volumes too, honestly. :]

SFV is a pretty big deal as evidenced in the reactions in this thread. However, I can understand that not everyone is into fighting games. All the rumblings over the past few days about PSX seem to suggest there will be something for a lot of other people who aren't necessarily into SFV.
