Street Fighter V Cinematic Story Mode - Spoiler Thread

I feel like this is it as far as Story Mode goes. The whole point was to finally tie the loose end between SF4 and SF3, and they did that pretty well, all things considered.
Done right, it's a great way to introduce new characters. And the next "season" would definitely cost money, too.

I thought it was fun. Not on MK9' s level but way better than MKX. F.A.N.G., Rashid, and Karin were easily the highlights but I think they really nailed the humor and character interactions and even the more serious moments had some real punch to them.

Really loved the dolls in this and it was nice to see Capcom thinks as little of Juni as I do.

Birdie and Necalli were freaking terrible though. The whole game could have done without them.
My thoughts exactly. It's not as good as Revelator or MK9 as far as story goes, but it beats MKX.

Yeah, Chun-Li and Guile should have done more, specially against Bison =/

Karin is like the founder of the SF Avengers and Rashid/FANG are really pretty cool

Juri is AWESOME, the story mode made me like her more.

I've liked the Dolls storyline, I like them and it was cool to see all of them there.

Mika is fucking awesome on that scene against Balrog, and Zangief is hilarious.

Sadly Laura, ALex and Birdie does not. Cool that Ken saved Sean, it justifies why Sean wants his approval.

Necalli and Nash... pfff, terrible.

- The first chapter was rough. It had the same issue I had with DOA5's where they they randomly skip between different screens with very little rhyme or reason besides padding out the story. That whole scene with Alex/Zangief/Mika (with no fight) and Ibuki watching tv was god awful. It did get better towards the end when the story started to focus on the main plot and the campyness made things more enjoyable.

- Loading screens were way too numerous.

- They really did a piss poor job of bringing ppl up to speed with stuff from the previous games. I barely remember who Ed is and they gave very little to care for him. The setup for SF3's plot was great though.

- Using the dolls as NPCs was a nice touch. Not a fan of most of their designs though.

- I absolutely love Urien's role and introduction in the story. I can't say the same for Necalli though.

- Find it weird that Mika is suddenly with Ibuki and tethered together. Find it weirder when I summon Nadesico in a fight when she's nowhere in the story.

- Where did Karin's bulter find the time to meet with Guile and get in a helicopter before everyone else?

- Ryu powering up offscreen was a waste but at least it gave other characters more time in the spotlight I guess.

- I really found Shadowloo base part of the really dumb. Everyone is just freely walking in and out of it throughout the story. Rashid waltzes into it 3 separate times without a fuss. And Fang should really put a password or something on that computer.

- The constant hair and costume clipping problems was a gigantic distraction for me. Nearly every time Helen or Karin was in a scene, their hair was clipping into their shoulder and flying around sporadically, taking all the tension out of the cutscene.

- Lack of boss battle sucks. I was hoping for some Alpha 3 Bison or Super Saiyan Blue Necalli or something. Not Bison with full meter and slightly hard AI. I did like them ending with Ryu vs Ken.

they should just release movies instead. i enjoyed the cheesyness of the cutscenes and character interactions, but the actual fighting was just as boring as the fake story mode battles.

They did release anime movies with SF4 to tell the story... but given their budget they weren't very good.

The short movies they did for Street Fighter x Tekken were pretty damn good though... but they could only afford to hire Polygon Pictures to do the intro movie only this time.

Probably the most enjoyable story mode experience in a FG I've ever had. There were a couple scenes that seems to transition oddly, and the ending seems to close kinda quick, but I had a great time, was always entertained. As a SF fan. of the characters and games and lore, all the fanservice always left me smiling. It was a cheesey SF plot, and that's absolutely what I wanted from it. Also as a Karin main I felt treated quite well. Can't wait for more!

I haven't been able to play it and I skipped everything just to ask this:

Compared to GG XRD or Revelator is it like that? or just some poor attempt?

Thanks

Tried a few matches on Extra mode. I got rekt as Nash (who I suck with) and actually had a little trouble playing as Bison, this won't be something you just bang out for a free 80k. But it's actually fun unlike survival mode.

Kinda funny that 'end boss' bison is pretty much the same AI as his hard survival version. Beat him the same way, with crossups.

A poor attempt at what? Xrd/Revelator story modes are non interactive, this is more like MK9. The reason they went the non interactive route with GG is probably because story modes in their previous games felt like just some excuses for random fights and SFV is definitely that.

Although it's crazy how many random one-off characters they created for this. Sure they borrow a lot of moves but the Dolls were still interesting. I also liked how you got to play as the 'villains' a lot.

It pretty much just felt like a lost Street Fighter movie from the 90s. Nonsense but fun. Just turn your brain off and don't ask how Juri drove a motorcycle from Brazil to London.

Really not seeing how its better than mkx story. This plot was not easy to follow at all. The end just had me thinking "really that's how it happened?". Guess i expected a better bridge into 3. Some of the character interactions is all this story had going for it, but even then some were just glossed over.

Well i hope this puts an end to to all this "before SF3 stories"

Did anyone else find it strange that Nadeshiko isn't in a single scene of story? I mean she's with Mika the whole time as a tag team partner...

come to think of it... Nadeshiko doesn't even have a voice actor.

From what I saw, I don't think Mika can even build up her V meter in her story fights, so that way Nadeshiko doesn't show up when she's not involved.

I used Mika's super in a story fight and hadn't even thought about how nonsensical that was until I actually did it.

This is just episode 1 of the story mode.

Story mode was nice. There were some weird difficulty spikes though, I think Cammy mauled me when I was Vega and Bison was tough but he should be (after the power was disabled he was weaker in the final battle which was decent).

Necali was a waste, he was fucking awful. Its like Gouki was meant to be there but he and some story development was cut for this jobber.

Nash was bad as well. He almost had nothing to do with Guile. His scene with Bison was good though. But then Ryu appears and ends it because he's the poster boy, that was kind of weak. The Nash battle was harder anyway.

That little girl is from 3S right.

I don't get complaints about the story being garbage. It's schlock. It's one thing to want something else, but you had to know going in it'd be schlock. It's like laughing at a B movie, it's not supposed to be taken seriously.

There's something between Rashid and a scientist, but you only hear about it during the ending. And given some events i'm sure you're going to see a lot (more) of Juri and Cammy "shipping".

Cammy is with Juni.

Oh, Capcom has finally decided to catch up the events of SF3. The credits cutscene got me a bit hype.
Come on Capcom, Season 2. Illuminati step into the power gap that Shadaloo left. Do it.

Those Bison Dolls are great. It'd be a shame to waste them, even if they're all Cammy clones with an extra move.

Also don't forget the Ryu x Ken bromance going on.

Man them starting the fights in story mode so suddenly with no indication at all is incredibly jarring. And I love how they sometimes put you as P2 for no reason at all so you're confused when P1 isn't moving.

So far this thing is just jumping around characters randomly, but maybe it gets better so I dunno. I just wanna test out my boy Urien...

It says "You" in the health bar of who you're using, and honestly it gets very clear on when a fight is about to go down.

I thought it was fun. I'm genuinely surprised that Bison didn't reemerge for a second round in his story costume.

Also, how much more difficult is the extra setting? I had trouble with the last few fights on the standard difficulty, so I don't know if I should even bother.

So I can log in now but general story is just greyed out for some reason, and I cannot select it. Should I just redownload SFV?

I liked it a lot. I haven't really played much Street Fighter since release because I'm honestly not much of a Guile or Alex player, and this got me back on board.

If they want to do this sort of thing every "season" that would be great. Not sure how practical that is, though, unless they move toward a F2P model and increase their userbase significantly as a result.

Based on what happened in the Cinematic Story Mode as well as the Character Stories, my guesses for Wave 2 are...
  • Crimson Viper
  • Sean Matsuda (to honor the 20th Anniversary of Street Fighter III)
  • Oro (see Sean)
  • Akuma
  • Sakura
  • Decapre or Azam
  • Abel
  • Gill
The English voice actor they hired for Gill (Liam O'Brien) is too high profile to not make him playable at some point. And given that they teased that the 2nd Cinematic Story will either retell the events of Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact or cover the Illuminati's rise to power, Gill is pretty much necessary for this. I'm caught between Decapre & Azam since the former had a ton of unique moves, while the latter was pretty damn prominent in the story & has a unique design.

They kinda lost me in the last 10 minutes, but I'm assuming that's set up for Bison's potential return in the SF3 era. Had fun, tho.

Necalli ended up being less cool than I had hoped.

Overall I liked it! My only complaints were the Nash vs Bison fight near the end and how the voices in the english dub didn't really sync up all the time.

The story was nonsense but fun. Should I assume based on the ending that we should be getting a Season 2 story?

Also, how much more difficult is the extra setting? I had trouble with the last few fights on the standard difficulty, so I don't know if I should even bother.

I was having trouble in the very first fight in Extra since the AI reacts to everything you do. The rest after that haven't been too hard so far. The fights against npc's are still pretty easy.
