Street Fighter V |OT| No Options to Select

Dragon's Dogma did not have a midnight release on Steam.

I was going to say this but wasnt sure. XCOM 2 did but thats the exception. Most games usually unlock when the store updates for the day (10am US or 5/6pm in europe) , with the big banner and what not

The title itself is an option select, poking fun or (rightfully) criticizing

it is brilliant

Oh yeah, because games as a service should have all thier content available at launch, totally makes sense.

It's funny how you guys will argue that Alex and Urien being added after the fact as paid DLC being stated by Siliconera as being included in the game is accurate, yet them patching features in post launch is an issue.

Man, President's Day ain't even really a holiday. I don't know anyone that isn't working like normal.

I think that's a little overreactive, myself. It's a dart, yeah, but it's not a mean-spirited dart. It's just basic, good-natured smartassery.

People suggesting the title is going to cause the thread to descend into vituperative chaos? I don't get that. There's gonna be fights. There's always fights. Disagreements and differences of opinion are going to cause people to get heated, regardless. The title of the thread isn't going to exacerbate that any. If anything, it might alleviate an argument or two as it sets a tone that suggests it isn't that big a deal so long as the actual act of fighting people in the streets feels good.

It's one of those "I kid because I love" sorta deals, really.

No, I don't consider President's day a real holiday either.

It's a shot at the game and then invites more fighting and worthless posts, even by your own admission. Even the posts we're making right now add nothing to the conversation and would have been avoided if a better title had been picked.

They wouldn't have been avoided. They'd have happened regardless. They're guaranteed.

You're aspiring to a signal/noise ratio that doesn't exist.

And yeah, the fact the title itself is an option select makes it all the better. It's a good title. It's funny. It's good-natured without being kid-glovesy. It's a decent one-liner.

Guys lets reflect. I feel it was only yesterday sf5 got revealed and we were excited / in shock it looked like a similar style to sf4. Sf5 came a long way. Cant wait for midnight. And can't wait for the rest of the game next month :D

What I remember from the reveal is thinking how much it looked (gameplay wise) like SSF2T and Alpha 2/3 to me, while there were a bunch of "No, it looks like 3S!" posts. You know, because Chun Li's stance and walking animation, and Ryu's V-Skill being a parry makes it closer to 3S than anything else...

Yeah. Sucks though as PSN will be launching at 9pm PST, which I believe is 12 hours earlier.

I have work off for President's Day. :-D

fun night of sfiv, good time to retire ultra
let's get hype brehs

I've reported that lunatic many times but Steam hasn't done anything.

Where did you see this from? Regardless, it would have to have been during the recovery of the dragon punch anyway since it was the most invincible in SF2 compared to later iterations.

There is an article on Polygon where it's mentioned in one of the interviews. I think it was called a verbal history of SF2.

No need to be this sensitive about a play on words imo.

I'm not bring sensitive about it, V-Triggered was my favored title in the other thread, I don't find it offensive in the slightest but when I saw it had potential to cause arguments and thread details I was vocally against it.

What exactly would we be disagreeing about if the thread title was different? Im not aspiring to anything, I'm saying the general consensus seemed to be to avoid inflammatory OP titles.

You considering it a good title is your opinion, I don't find it amusing, but I've been seeing people argue about stuff like option selects missing from SFV for months and people complaining about single player modes missing from the release version constantly for days. The claim it's not kid's glovesy is laughable considering it was chosen as a replacement for a title people might have found offensive.

Can anyone remember SF4 launch enough to compare it being this popular, media coverage and as much information available as SFV appears?

SF4 was launched in Japan arcades first, then console later, then pc even later, so that might be part of the difference. A lot has changed the last 7-10 years, between live streaming taking off, sponsors, social media, tournament coverage, a lot more marketing etc.

I'm not watching recorded matches from Japan on vhs/dvd no more, it's a new generation! We doing it live!

Tell me about your memories of launch so we can compare thoughts on SF4 and SFV.

I think I'm going to end up pissing a lot of people off in SFV..

Noob + Australia + Wifi (My PS4's ethernet port is fucked, tried half a dozen cables and it won't recognize any anymore.)

It's gonna be a big thread. Someone'll say something, I bet.

Different thread title wouldn't have stopped that. It's not like the name of the threads those arguments been happening in had anything to do with it. C'mon now.

Thanks for this.

I remember going to the mall to pick up a copy of SF IV when it dropped, the excitement was definitely there and there was a small line to pick up the game. Nothing like now though, where like you said all the information is everywhere all the time. It was kind of new to me in the sense that I didn't really play fighting games competitively back then. I used to love playing fighting games but it was always just for fun, I consider myself an 09er in that sense but I always had the interest in them back in the SF II, SF III and MvC2 days.

I was so hyped, my friends and I played for quite a long time. I was clearly the only one who was gonna take it serious of my friends at the time though. Little did I know that I'd get so invested in it throughout the years. Mained Fei Long in vanilla and then moved to Gen after that and then went from them to playing Guy full time when Super dropped.

Overall I can't wait to usher in a new era of Street Fighter. This ride is only gonna get crazier.

That Vega reveal trailer is so fucking good. That has to be the best one right? Necalli and Bison both are awesome, but Vega's just...I don't know. I guess I'm biased.

Can someone explain how the ranking works? I was watching a streamer who was rank 75 and one win one loss he went to 88. Besides the specific league you get into how is your # determined? And does it get determined in real time after the match ?

Pre-loaded the game yesterday, can't wait to get online. Just bummed I won't be able to use that pre-order Cammy outfit for a while.

I think the number is determined by how many league points you have.

Great OP , the title is even good ! I was worried we'd end up with the V-triggered name but I think "no options to select" is better given all the whining so far from early players.

I have tomorrow off from work (it's Family day in a good chunk of canada) but the real fun will be after my shift is done on tuesday I guess.

The greatest pre-console SF4 match.

Who will be SF5's Ironfist?

In the last beta, player rankings got updated roughly every half hour based on your LP. It didn't happen immediately after each match.

Wtf, just found out the part where SF5 doesn't release until like 17 pm in europe, tommorrow, because the entirety of Valve don't work today because of some american only holiday or some such nonsense?

You seriously telling me that Valve, operating the by far biggest digital videogames storefront in the world, doesn't have a single european person employed that can click the "release" button at midnight here? Laughable

Also don't forget in the betas, looking at leaderboards, hundreds of players were separated by 1LP. Just a single point. I noticed this while browsing the last day. That means if you won or lost a match for 35-60LP that could be the difference in 200-1500 ranking position (depending where you are sitting). Of course it might smooth out after months, and as the top players gain large leads, but initially the points are super tight with everyone.

I'm sure there would be some comment on it one way or another, but I think this title is more likely to incite arguments.

No the names of the threads probably had nothing to do with those arguments, I wasn't claiming they did, I'm saying a joke about stuff I see argued to death isn't funny to me.

There will probably be some complaints in the thread about a lack of characters who came from SF3 in the thread, putting a shot about that in the topic would likely put it on people's minds and result in more.

I'm just saying mentioning major points of debate in the OP title is counter productive, especially when people didn't want to go with a title that would lead to extra bickering in the thread proceeding if.

Well think of it this way: better the title incites arguments over the game itself, rather than a big hoopla over inappropriate and unnecessary use of 'triggered'

I don't think they've given any details. Since they are copying League if Legends for a lot of things I'd imagine it would be something alongbthe same lines only a bit more transparent.

How dare you insult President's Day, the most sacred of all American holidays.
Okay no one actually cares about it, even considering it's Valve I'm kind of surprised they have it off.

Our studio has it off too, even though we work through a number of other holidays. Not really sure why that is.

I'm so pumped.

Maybe my 500+ hours of getting my ass beat in SF4 will pay dividends in SFV....nah I'll probably suck here too lol.

I can't wait to see Urien

Seems like bad form for the OT title to be bashing the game even in jest, given the higher visibility considering that devs do visit the forum and post occasionally. I couldn't say I'd blame them if they didn't bother reading anything in here given the title.

People getting upset over the would have made it a clever pun.

In all seriousness if I knew that word was going to get people going like that I would have never backed it. I think these are both poor choices though.
