Street Fighter V |OT2| Another Fight Isn't Coming Your Way!

Yes you kept playing, I went on a 7 game losing streak earlier and took about an hour break doing much better since then.

Seeing as were on the subject does anyone else have the same mental disconnect I seem to have. I do very well in ranked and go to casual and just get wrecked .... its weird.

i turn on both ranked and casual so i have a feeling you're just getting unlucky and running into players who are setup to matchmake in both so cut down on wait times.

you also might be like me and you play down to your competition if they are a lot worse than you. start doing dumb un-safe stuff and before you know it...you're about to lose lol

If you are throwing out CR. MK like that you should be ready to cancel into QCB+HK. If they are blocking your CR. MK attempts you can cancel it into QCB+LP to overhead (which cancels into super) but if they block that they can punish you hard.

The rest of the advice in this thread is good so follow that.

Yeah I know, but it's hard to hit confirm it though. I'm still practicing on it.

How would you guys feel about guest character DLC from games that aren't Street Fighter related? I don't think its a slippery slope but it could work well!

But being on the receiving end of an ass whooping isn't fun
Losing by a considerable margin in a fighting game (at least in Street Fighter and Virtua Fighter) is exciting to me because now I get to figure out where I went wrong and re-examine my playstyle, which leads to becoming a better player. I learned a lot from vs a Rainbow Mika (as Dhalsim) against whom I went 3 - 20 or something silly like that.

It's a really great place, I've been there before a few times but more to just fuck about with mates on Time Crisis or DDR than for any serious play. The more I think about it the more I'm feeling that I'll head down this weekend, take my stick and just get my ass kicked by people who can at least calmly explain to me what I'm doing wrong afterward!

Sounds good. Let us know how it goes!

Damn, this thread moves fast.

Jumped in last night. Got set up, did Ryu's story to get a feel, then just stuck on fight request while in training mode.

Great experience so far. I kept getting matches after 1-2 minutes, and every one was silky smooth. Might as well have been playing in the same room; no exaggeration. Even if this is limited to opponents from my region (Japan), I can't complain.

I never really played Ryu before, but getting a base game going with him feels refreshing.
Once he's levelled up and I'm comfortable with the system, I'm thinking of branching out with Laura first.

One problem I experienced was with Battle Lounge. A friend (also living in Tokyo) and I couldn't join each other's lounges no matter what we did. Is there a something we might be missing, or is this a known issue?

what is that move Rashid does at the end of round 2 when he looks like he matrix-style dodges Vega's attack and counter attacks? He does a little move back in the corner

also, there's totally going to be a Mika costume where its just a model swap with Nadeshiko right? Mik can come out during those EX moves and V-Trigger
I rewatched the match and I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Could you give a time point?

As it is you already get such a tiny amount of fight money per fight that it seems meaningless. I honestly thought that they were gonna give you around 500 fight money per ranked win and 200 per loss. Crazy that it's only 50 per win. Thats 2000 wins to afford a character with pure ranked victories. I didn't play 2000 matches of Street Fighter IV the entire time I played it! Thankfully, fight money is somewhat abundant elsewhere, but you should still earn around 10x more per ranked match.
That's true. I hope the challenges and stuff are things that casual players can accomplish.

I don't like sticks since they're big, take up a lot of space, and honestly don't find them really comfortable. I much prefer the classic controller layout so I was thinking of buying this, anyone has any impressions? is the dpad any good?

Best pad available for fighting games at the moment IMO. Only recent one I haven't really tried is their other Fighting Commander which hasn't arrived yet since nobody seems to have it actually in stock here in the US, so I'm still waiting on JP shipping.

a way they can make up for the pathetic amount of fight money through matches is with the daily challenges. if you can earn 5k a day through that within 20 days thats 100k. they could have it set up where there are 3-5 challenges a day that are in total worth 5k. or the only way to get any fight money is by completing all 3-5, but if its the second case they have to be reasonable challenges, like win 10 matches w/ x character or something. not something insane like win 10 ranked in a row.

Own it. Love it. Recommend it.

ok thanks guys, its $30 so if i end up not liking it its alright i guess unlike a fight stick which is like 200 or something.

I never rage quit, and when the data fail to load or whatever, I feel the person that beat me will think I rage quit. I hope Capcom fix that. I don't like when people are robbed of their wins, and I feel guilty when I don't have points taken from me. I actually like staying in a comfortable rank and have no real desire to climb them. Well unless I actually got good enough to stabilize in a new rank.

I think the dpad is great. When I was researching that pad I saw that some people complained that the mechanism that locks the dpad into a particular rotation orientation can wear out and then the dpad is basically unusable. That hasn't happened to me yet but I haven't put in hundreds of hours. Feels like it's well built, in any case.

There's also a new version of that controller that costs less and ditches the adjustable dpad features. I haven't used it but people seem to like it.

It's out of stock at playasia but I guess someday it won't be.

Just had a Ken rage quit in ranked because his bullet proof plan to spam hard DP resulted in nothing but getting slammed and other punishes. He waited until the last hit too.

Nice...how so much...at 50 a win that is stupid matches.

Keep in mind that they will be adding Daily Challenges and Trials next month -- both of which will be new sources for Fight Money. On top of the higher difficulties of Survival (if you haven't done them and you feel you can complete them with most characters).

Plus the eventual Arcade Mode (there was a recent article that said they're going to address the lack of an arcade mode) and whatever else they add.

I bought that one in Japan and when I got home I discovered the dpad has trouble registering down :/. It works, but it can feel like you're hitting down when you're actually not. I probably got a dud because it's pretty bad.

I would go with this version instead: http://www.play-asia.com/fighting-commander-for-playstation-4-playstation-3/13/709efx

I think it's on Amazon too but it's $15 more. The big difference between the two controllers is that the one I linked has a non-adjustable D-Pad and it has Xinput. I prefer the non-adjustable version because the D-Pad has a better build quality. The pro version of the controller with the adjustable D-pad has questionable build quality and I've gone through two of them. In both cases the D-Pad had issues less than a year into ownership.

This game is mad online.

I've won 12 out of 12 in ranked.

Was hoping for a trophy for 10 in a row..
Nah I'm glad they took that out for this one.

Finally got hard survival finished with Ken. Some tactics.

First 15 rounds, just jump in at the start of round into cr.mp > target combo and finish with hard hurricane. Finish with dragon punch if cpu was crouching. Cross them up into the same combo, rinse and repeat.

15 onwards I start the round with medium hurricane, then exactly the same tactics for the whole rest of the rounds. If you find yourself with space upto the cpu, just use a medium hurricane to get in. Sticking close to the cpu is essential as you want to be going for a cross up every time you knock the cpu down.

General note - if the cpu is blocking or anti-airing everything, get close with the hurricane and then mash medium DP.

On the items, keeping your health bar high and using the defense buff is the best way. I only used attack buffs at the start, round 20 onwards high attack buffs were only used if I had high health and a low defense buff was on offer. I only topped my health up if it was below 50% and a low defense buff was on offer. Using the defense buffs really help, and the medium hurricane at the start was damn near essential for getting up close to start the spam.

PS. I hate Laura. Not the CPU. She's made my life difficult today :(

i don't mind the $15 extra bucks but the ones being sold on amazon will take a whole month to ship. I'll just buy the other one and if i like it and it gets messed up I'll buy that one, hopefully by that time its out in the US.

Ugh...I feel awful right now, and I wanted to try that stupid long Cammy combo I was testing out yesterday. I even forgot it ;_;

I think it was

jHP > sMP > sHP > Trigger > cMK > H Arrow > H Spike xx CA

Imagine if they had that one in this game with all the rage quitters and the 'communication with server failed' errors.
I'd eat my own head with the frustration.

So I started looking around in the menus for stuff while waiting for another match.
I guess Power Stats in the Fighter Profile are broken and will be implemented later? Lotta zeroes there.

I'm loving how ragequitters are turning out to be a bigger challenge when ranking up than actual difficult opponents. Over half of silver rankers and up seem to plug instead of taking their L.

It's always the same pattern too. Some massive winstreak but then when you play them, you can go next to them and they DP every time. Except if you go right near them, then you get to the awesome 50/50 where they might throw or they might DP.

Riveting.
