Chun needs some amount of skill to be good with though. Ryu is DP at the start of the round, DP after your DP whiffs, DP during blockstrings, DP after you do a negative move, DP on wakeup, DP on your opponent's wake up. What I'm saying is if you're not DPing, you're not playing Ryu right.

I think you're talking about ken

Vtrigger Ken to be more precise

You're confusing Ryu with Ken.

Got two really good sets against a dhasim player in casual and he rage quits on me at the end of the second set. why lol. Anyway I'm finally starting to feel comfortable against sim even though I don't get much practice against him. It's not as scary as a match up as I thought it could be. Those stretchy limbs had me shook at first.

Anyone up for some games?

GGs, but I can't keep up with this connection. It started off pretty good, but it's gotten pretty choppy. Kinda funny seeing the background assets freak out though.

Your keep away Nash is really good, definitely made it hard for me to get in without spending meter. Btw, how the heck am I supposed to block that boom/v-trigger setup?

Ah yeah it started out perfect but kinda got iffy on my end as well. Not sure what that was. Maybe we can try again another time, cause I'd love to keep practicing your Alex (one of my worst match ups - his cr.mp is the bane of my existence, and his wonky jump timing is weird timing enough to throw me off my anti-airs), which I thought was pretty good. Very hard to predict what you were going to do.

As for the boom, there are a few tricks that may work, but it's really just a matter of reacting. The most solid option is, when you see the v-trigger flash, block the opposite direction and look above your character to see if a Nash did the air version. If it's a behind v-trigger, you block the boom, and if it was a front-air you'll have already blocked the boom pre-v-trigger which gives you some time to block the next attack. Usually it's a little easier to react to the air ones.

Other than getting used to it, I've seen some people do a little 'wiggle' block to some effect, but it can feel like luck of the draw for sure.

Yeah, sure thing, I could use more Nash experience as well.

Huh, I thought I was blocking in the opposite direction. I was probably just a fraction of a second too slow.

EDIT: SUPER GOLLLDDDDDD

I've been having more fun with the versus cpu mode than I thought I would.

Took a while before I was able to beat a level 7 Necalli with my Mika. And when I did, I got a perfect lol.

Any figure collector people here? I have a question and since Figure GAF got nuked for lewdness I figured (no pun intended) that this would be a good place to ask.

I'd like to get this Chun-Li figure, but I don't know anything about Pop Culture Shock or the company that makes the figure. I don't mind the price tag as long as the figure is quality. Anyone have any feedback on this site/statue?

Has anyone used the tier lists on v-league before? They match my thoughts much more so than the user generated ones on eventhubs.

For 30,000 matches taken from the top 100 players, the tier list is as follows

Necalli 6
Cammy 5.9
Chun 5.5
Ryu 5.4
Laura 5.4
Bison 5.3
Birdy 5.3
Sim 5.1
Ken 5
Vega 5
Guile 5
Karin 4.9
Gief 4.9
Juri 4.9
Rashid 4.9
Nash 4.8
Mika 4.6
Ibuki 4.5
Urien 4.5
Balrog 4.4
FANG 4.3
Alex 4.2

https://v-league.pro/tierslist (the list is unsorted on v-league)

I feel as though I would be more interested in a list taken from the top 1,000, as the list may be biased if certain characters are underrepresented in the top 100, and I think players in the top 1,000 are good enough to be considered to be playing their characters at a high level of play. Still, that's probably the best method of producing a tier list that I've seen thus far, though it would be nice to see it reset and reproduced every few months to reflect fluctuations in character performance.

Either way, all of the DLC characters except Guile appear to be quite poor, and Necalli is much better than people often give him credit for. Everyone complains about Chun, but with a 3-frame jab, the ability to combo from lights with v trigger, a meterless reversal, a command grab, divekick and ample reset opportunities, Necalli truly is the dominant character in this game. At EVO we saw 6 Necalli's in top 32, the only character that matched that was Chun.

It's also interesting to see characters like Laura performing much better in the top 100 online than they do in real tournaments. I wonder why that is. At EGX you couldn't escape seeing a Laura player, they were everywhere, but I don't think any of them did all that well. Perhaps players aren't able to react to tick throw command setups in the same way that they can locally. Offline I have seen players neutral jumping on response to blocked light kick as a means of punishing a command throw attempt however that may be considerably harder to do online when latency is factored. It also displaces the notion that characters like Ken are top 5, and represents a much more mid-tier placement for Ken which I think represents what we've seen from many decent Kens at tournament level, and from others online. Ken carries too much risk and lacks the solid fundamentals that other upper tier characters possess.

The top 100 tierlist on V-League is really really bad. There are match-ups calculated by a single digit amount of games.

Like Balrog - Urien is currently at 0.0 aka 10-0, because it's counting 2 matches. Some don't have any matches, zero, like Laura - Urien. It's useless.

Interesting. Yeah I thought that would be the case, but surely it's better than eventhubs voted rating system? There's no reason to believe that the subjective rating system represents anything.

Surely if V-League expanded the tier list to the top 1,000 it would be much more useful than anything else out there. Also worth noting that while many tier lists produced for SFIV and whatnot were based on major tournament performances, many of the matchups were not represented their either. Yet it still offers an estimation of the characters overall performance. If the character matchup is unrepresented then to a degree that speaks to its relevance in the current climate. If Laura is bad against Urien, that doesn't impact her much because the odds of facing a Laura Vs Urien matchup are incredibly low, both offline and online.

Additionally, for characters like Nash, who have ample matches recorded against every character, why are they underperforming in the top 100? I wouldn't call it useless. I think it highlights some interesting performance disparities between the top 100 on CFN, local performance, and subjective perceptions of character efficacy. Of course it is not great in certain areas, DLC characters are especially unrepresented and that's an inherent issue of the DLC characters. Both within locally formulated tier lists from tournament standings, subjective perceptions and this online form of rating system, the quality of the DLC characters is going to be affected by various factors that confound representations of their efficacy such as pro player representation, and relative character and matchup unfamiliarity in contrast to the rest of the cast.

How can these online Kens sleep at night? The nonsense even these Ultra Gold players pull is ridiculous. I guess their notes for all matchups say "when in doubt DP".

Did he win though? I get beat by randoms that do stupid stuff like frametrap DP all of the time. In the end I'm just mad at myself for not blocking it.

This one wasn't too crazy so I won. Ones that just keep going are the ones that I really have problems with and I get always real salty with them because I should have known better to just keep blocking.

Not actually that important
Well, as a SF2 oldschool player who didn't put any time into SFIV, I love this game so far.
Still early of course, I got the game just a couple weeks ago with a fightstick, I played only 4 matches of ranked and mostly Casual mode simply because of those 4 matches (that I won) in two of them the dudes quit on me right after I KO'd them and I didn't get the win... so lame, don't they get like banned for pulling shit like this? So yeah, sticking to casual mode for now if it's that full of ahole.

I really, really enjoy the gameplay and mechanics even tho I understand some fans don't like how they "dumbed down" the game from SF4AE but for me it's golden. As an old player, the one thing I don't like so far is that it seems they got rid of how some moves used to change based on range/distance from the opponent? I always liked how for example HK behaved based on distance for most shotos :(

I also don't like the business model at all tho, it's neat people can get a lot of stuff without spending a dime but if you want most of it you're gonna spend a lot of money and if I get a Season pass (which I did) then don't fucking take away all the colors (colors!! Not even costumes) from me goddamn, I shouldn't be grinding in a SF game. It sours me a bit on the experience, hopefully something will change for Season 2.

You should have the colours now.

At least, I do and I have the season pass and didn't buy anything.

I just played a lvl 64 10,000 LP Karin whose offense consisted mostly of unsafe ressenhas and kicks. Destroyed her free. How...

I only recently made it into Ultra Gold, because I won too much in casual matches and went back to ranked to get better opponents. But now I'm thinking Platinum might actually be possible with how these matches have been going.

There's "solid Platinum/Gold" and then there's "I online'd my way into Gold/Plat".

Always fun to find out which is which
