Venezuela / Colombian border is pretty crazy dudes. I wouldnt be saying just go there like it was nothing

The one at Cúcuta is generally safe and I haven't heard of any issues. It does help to know what nationality the OP is. Also he will have to see what the Visa restrictions are for him to go into Colombia.

This seems like an airline issue and not a govt/military issue so the OP shouldn't have any issues crossing.
Bus trip could be done in 2 days. I would book the nicest and most reliable bus company though.

black market is fishy tho

what I plan on doing is get my friends to get friends of them to buy me the USD before I get there and just sell it to them

I wouldnt go about selling dollars just willy nilly. unless you wanna get shot
Holy shit what is going down in Venezuela that people are talking about currency deals like they are shady drug deals? Crazy.

Anyway, I just bought an eight ball and I'm not sleeping until I have 100 pages of my screenplay for Stuck in Caracas.

If you can get to Margarita I can probably arrange to have fishermen smuggle you wherever you want in a crate. Do you have $100,000 on you? I mean like 10k will do for the boat trip but my time is not cheap.

I can confirm this, you will get shot if you advertise recklessly to be buying or selling USDs. Gotta keep it very on the down low and inform only people you can trust 100% who feel the same towards you.

That been said do no hesitate to approach this fellow random gaffer with 100k.

Oh man, OP should definitely wait for his Embassy to sort everything out then. I've never been to Venezuela but I want to go some time.

I'll wait to visit the country when things have stabilized.

This is what works for my family to come and go when we need to visit Venezuela.

There are tickets out there they just aren't populating on website for Venezuelan IP addresses. First download some kind of reputable VPN software, and then log in as if you are somewhere in the US via the VPN. Once online go to either the American Airlines or Copa airlines website to buy a ticket. You aren't going to get a direct flight so find something to Panama or Aruba. I just checked and the first available Copa flight to Panama is September 3rd.

As a quick aside I wouldn't stray from the airport at all. The best safest hotel in that area is the Eurobuilding Express Maiquetía. They run a shuttle service to the airport that is relatively stress free.

I really hope some one can help you Venezuela is in a really terrible place right now.

Edit: Also don't try to go through the Venezuela/Colombia border that stuff is all ridiculous right now.

They won't give you bolivar for usd? Considering now badly they need usd I figure they would be throwing it at you. That sucks.

I dont know why but its some kind of illegal in here to change USD to bolivar !!! And most of them cant change more than 200$ a day because they dont have that much bolivar

I have friends and my girlfriend there. If you want OP I can see if someone would be willing to buy your dollars.

Im going there next october and this situation kinda frightens me. Im gonna get a plane ticket with a return date tho so I should be okay?, how did you end up stuck?

Dude dont come here just dont mybe the situation will be better for you because you have friends but it doesn't worth it so just dont do it

WTF dude are you serious?

did you have a return flight/ticket when you got there?
Yes but its for end of September because those idiots told me I can change the date whenever I want

For those who dont know:

Venezuela doesn't really sell flights to forign countries anymore. If you are a foreigner...well good luck with that.

I'm 300kms away from CCS my friend I'm in Barquisimeto. I whish I could help.

Where are you from?

Japan

Who was that idiot gafer yesterday claiming Venezuela had been massively improved for normal people by Chavez, and where is his ass now?

Yes but its for end of September because those idiots told me I can change the date whenever I want

so.. what basically happened is that you're not able to change your flight, but you do have a return date

then that presents no issue for me.. I plan to stay there for a month and comeback, or change it to a further along date, not shorter

im not worried as long as my return flight and ticket are valid, and there seems to be no issue there, the issue is in getting the tickets themselves but im gonna do that from here, before going

This is not just about ticket, you cannot change money, its not safe to go outside, there is nothing to see and nothing to do so its better to never see such a place

Time to re-watch Gregory's Girl!

It's so gut wrenching what Venezuela has become. Fortunately for Salsa he has a group of friends there, which I think is pretty much the only way to know the country these days. Knowing Spanish also helps a lot.

You as a Japanese, alone and no knowledge of Spanish (I assume)? Get out now.

Take a local flight to San Cristobal and convince a Taxi to cross you to Cucuta.

There's not much more that can be done at the moment. We're practically with no international connections. This is a shit country.

You can find some flights if you have some frequent flyer miles. You can buy the miles but it might be much more expensive.

American Airlines have tickets available from Caracas to Miami for 50K miles this weekend, but if you try to buy the ticket normally, you won't find anything available until next year.

i'll be on caracas half my trip, other half im going to merida and margarita

im gonna go se my GF before she comes back, so there's some planning involved rather than just visiting to see the sights

dont plan on going outside at night either. gonna be with people who lived there all their lives and know the place and dos and donts

think i'll be fine. Venezuela is still a beautiful country if you visit it right and avoid the shit

There is actually a lot to see and experience in Venezuela, BUT the current landscape of the country doesn't lend itself very well to tourists (or hell, to its own citizens), one should definitely come visit here but I wouldn't recommend it at this point or for the next few years, until things start changing for the better around here... and who knows when that'll be.

Im trying to find something, but the only thing I have found is for October. You probably will have to take a bus or as other people have said go to your embassy.

I live here in Caracas, so let me know if I can help

You could probably make some good cash as a guide or by taking people in.

to be fair the lay of the land tends to change quite drastically and fast

as in, it's bad now, but it was way worse even a couple months ago

when the shit was hitting the fan for real with the whole road block and constant civilian protests every day I was really worried about going and postponed it

Yep you'll be fine and have fun if you're with people from here who know what's up. Plenty of cool stuff to do and see.

So bizarre that you will be near me (Margarita), I would propose a meet up but I'm not comfortable meeting people from the internet, but I will check out how you look like on facegaf just in case I run into you at some club/party/whatever and an opportunity for a weird stalker gaf thread with pictures presents itself muhuuahahahAHAHAHA... eerrhm *cough*

Its definitely better than how it was when that happened but not better than how it was before that, or last year, or the year before that one, you get the point.

I mean I'm not saying it's impossible to move or live around here, its just that as a tourist you need to come prepared to face many hurdles that don't usually come up when visiting other countries, such as the OP is experiencing. In your case your GF lives here and that's a big advantage you have right there.

Still, the country has much to offer and if someone wants to come visit despite those hurdles then its definitely worth it. It actually hurts to talk with such negativism about my own country but it has seen better days.

Just an update about my situation:

Embassy find me a ticket for tommorow to Ecuador and from there to sao paolo ! This means finally I can escape from here but here is the good part they change my hotel and give me a luxury room for a low price ! I dont wanna leave my room now :[

Hahaha, I'm glad you got a ticket out of there. Enjoy your room while you can :)

Is anybody here have information about Ecuador? Is it a good place?

Yes, its a good place. Its safer then Venezuela but not 100% safe. There is still a lot of crime there. Quito is much much better then Guayaquil.

All official taxi's have panic buttons and cameras inside them. Kinda weird to see at first.

Where are you going and for how long.

I'd say Ecuador is safer then Brazil as well.

I can confirm that Ecuador is far far better than Venezuela for tourists. At least 90% of people in here can speak English fluently. There are a lot of beautiful girls in here as well as Caracas btw :]

Glad you got out safely. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

(Time to start writing the screenplay ;)

I'm going to Peru and Bolivia soon, hopefully I have no such trouble!

Both places seem a bit less nuts than Venezuela though.

Nice to hear that you were able to leave Venezuela safely. I'm also glad you seem to be enjoying Ecuador!
