Interesting discussion, despite the hilarious topic. That kid is screwed six ways from Sunday. A friend's father went upstate for two years when his sister-in-law ratted him to the cops for owning child porn on a CD. He was a elementary school teacher, and his neighbors tried to claim he touched their kids only after they found out he was arrested. It's strange, b/c he's a former priest and a really nice man otherwise. He used to take kids to his lakehouse often (his wife and kids would be out there, so don't get ideas), and they got a lot out of it. The arrest ruined his life, and more importantly, ruined the live of his family.
The discussion is good, though. There are far more people who are attracted to children than get arrested. I'd throw out some high percentage of posters in this thread, but it would just cause lots of defensive posturing. You can claim otherwise, but let's look at this situation. This kid got busted for porn featuring 7-14yo. I graduated 8th grade at 13, and a lot of kids graduate at 14. So, if you were to include middle-school students in there, and you did not have the age neatly labeled for you, a lot of you would fap yourself raw to their images. I'm not saying pedophilia is latent in all of us, but I think it's also a little reactionary to just spew nonsense about sicko this and that, when a vast majority of you would form a similar level of "attraction" (or lust, if you will) towards children of the same age that dumb bastard found attractive.
I guess a distinction is that he would actively seek out these images to satiate his desires, whereas most of us do not. But is that an issue of motivation or attraction? I think it's the former, but I think pedophilia still lies heavily in the latter. Just as some people are more motivated to act on other urges, I think the people who get caught are just the ones more motivated. Damn, it's kinda early, and I lost my train of thought. I just thought the thread had a good mix of laughs and psych evaluation. I'm gonna end this post....here. PEACE.

We're not talking about 15 or 16 year old girls that look like they are 18 or 20. We're talking about children.
People are not born pedophiles. It typically has some kind of psychologically traumatic experience that triggers it. I can't even name a possibility why people would want to have sex with a child.
These people are mentally ill. A child is not going to respond well to molestation or sex at a young age. If there has ever really been an instance of it, I have yet to read it. The child tends to grow up with neuroses and possibly psychoses. There's enough science to back it up. Comparing it to homosexuality is dumb because at least with homosexuals, there is mutual consent between knowing adults.

That is true, and we've to remember that, as I've said, this affects nudist families' rights, in this country. I honestly don't know how they deal with family photos at all in this country, it could be a serious problem for foreign nudist families that come here, without knowing the laws are that strict over here.
It's also a problem for some film connoisseurs that want original and unedited versions of all their movies. Suppose some of them were fans of Brooke Shields and owned all of her movies, their property(e.g. Pretty Baby.) could actually have become illegal by now, at least in this country. I'm not sure if such movies would be exempt, as they've value and are considered art, from whatever laws have been made in washington, but it wouldn't surprise if some of the films they owned are no longer legal to own... and for simply having the movies they've legally bought and had with them for years, they're now candidates for prison time, maybe even unknowingly.

Is this a rationalization of the behaviour? Maybe it is, but I think trying to rationalize paedophilia and thus develop a better understanding of it and why it happens is infinitely more constructive then mindlessly condemning it with emotive terms like 'evil' and 'paedophile bastard'.

This thread is about possessing images on a computer. Not raping. Possessing a picture of a crime being commited isnt punishable by law for ANY other types of images, because they dont carry the taboo.
Should people who download gore videos also be subject to criminal prosecution? People who obsessively download that are probably far greater dangers to society.
What about 9/11 video?. What kind of sick freaks would possess a video of an event that lead to the death of so many?
It's pretty ****ing sickening to think that someone can be tried for having downloaded an image on the internet. Im sure the authorities dont target people who have some random image of a girl who looks 19 but is actually 16, but it's still ****ing terrible to think of worst case scenarios.

With hard drugs though, anyone could get addicted to them (assuming they tried them once). While they did have to willingly make the decision the first time, in later cases it may have more to do with the addiction.jamesinclair said:

There has to be something that causes some people have the attraction in the first place while others don't. This is the factor that is most likely beyond their control. On the other hand, most people don't find the notion of doing drugs "disgusting" per se. And there's no question that they could develop an addiction if they got started.
