Stupid character poses/animations

All I can think of:

GOOD LORD

I'm not even sure what the real life equivalent of this would be. No one behaves like this.

Have you ever watched a football or hockey match? Everytime a player scores a goal/touchdown they're always brofisting each other or dancing or a bit of both. SAme kind of "celebration" going on here.

It looks like a bunch of stereotypical dudebros cosplaying as Spartans.

Funny, because that's exactly what Spartan IV's are, according to the Halo 4 lore.

I still think 343i bringing lore into MP is the worst thing that could have happened to MP...

I will fight you irl.

Bridget's idle animation is second only to Elena. Elena's got too many frames not to have the best idle.

The biggest problem with Elena movement is that she doesn't protect her head and she steps two times with each side where it should be only one.

Unbelievable understatement. And iirc she's the one original female character they were allowed to make.

Japan has like the least progressive devs and artists in the industry.

So there can't be one token cutesy character in the whole roster?

That's like singling out Darunia for being too macho with his bulkyness and 'brother this' and 'brother that'.

What constitutes progressive?
Debating on whether to just post examples of some of the strong female characters we've had from the west just in the past few years or to post female characters from Japan that are either weak or rely on a ton of anime cliches.

There's almost always the token cutesy character, it's so overused.

It's actually Scorpion, Crane, Drunk Master, Ghost Kick, and Red Snake.

Yes those are literally their names.
Actually if you put it that way that makes a lot of sense. Really literal but it makes sense.

Halo 5 Brofist - the thread

What's the problem with this? Isn't Halo like *the* "Dube Bro Shooter"? This looks amazing tbh.

We can talk about the female protagonists on the mainline Assassins Creed series if you want. =D

What about strong female characters from Japan?

Of which there are less of then what we've seen lately from Western games. And it's not like they're changing or getting, both of their most next gen games, MGSTPP and FFXV have female characters that are dressed like the "sexy" halloween versions of actual professions, not to mention what they did to Samus recently.

There are many. But the most recent example is most definitely a great example of a progressive female protagonist.

I don't know if anyone said them before, but some of the victory animations for Lightning in LR:FFXIII were so out of character, they drove me crazy.

In the end I stopped using those costumes that gave her "sexy posing" or submissive attitude animations. Worst wardrobe ever.

Really or are you being selective Japanese was being progressive decades before the west even started dreaming of it.

Selective bias you have.

Well, I dunno if Hyrule Warriors is the place to point fingers.

There's a chick that moonlights as a dude, and a female general with 0 sex appeal and a huge awesome sword, and a gross little female imp that can will packs of wolves into existence.

I think we're good.

This is true. It feels like if I go back to the SNES and PS1 era there are a lot of great female characters in lots of JRPGs, even if they're not the primary characters in their games.

These days, Japanese women are some of the worst example of negative female stereotypes.

I think this because of a major difference in culture, though. Japan is not having the kind of progressive reform the west is having. And, again, culturally these kinds of stereotypes might not bother them the way they bother Americans since Japanese adherence to fantasy is a lot stronger.

And in recent years the've most definitely slowed down on that front.
This seriously looks so fucking bad.
To that game's credit it's from the alpha demo that Conan got to play many months before release. No idea how it looks in the final game though.

Going from Skyward Sword, or any Zelda game from Nintendo to Hyrule Warriors is startling how another company dealt with the characters. The actual story really seemed like bad fan fiction.

Well, this sure worked against your point. This is great.
It's animated well enough, and funny since it's applied to the link model, but it's still really stupid imo.

For the love of god can someone say what the name of this game is
RE:Revelations 2. Or Lost Planet 2 because the budget of Revelations 2 was so low that they reused a ton of animations from that game for the taunts.

Well for one Tecmo made it and in general most games that pulls various characters together are written like fan fiction.. That is kinda the whole point.

This is low hanging fruit, and tropes have very little to do with animation and more to do with over relying on character personality tropes. Cliched and tropey characters can still have excellent animation just as much as much as a character breaking the mold having awful animation.

I feel tropes is an entirely separate discussion.

The guy holding the controller is meant to be the "dude bro", not the actual in-game character :|
Really? My brother, who plays this games, told me that the Spartan 4s are kind of dude bros since they aren't raised to be stoic killing machines who take an obey orders, and that the War Games is a simulation for S4s akin to a sport for them... In any case they look amazing and cocky.

Maybe they need to let you select what animations you want to use at the end of the match =/

Edit: Maybe me and my brothers are part of the problem, jaja

Yes, but I don't know how much of it is intentional and how much of it is just bad character writing. Sarah Palmer is intolerable, yet I get the feeling we're supposed to like her considering how many (extremely similar) lines she gets.

And even if it makes sense for them to be less stoic than the previous Spartans, doesn't make it any easier to like them. The high fives are okay, but the Well! What is it! looks annoying.

Good point, Brawl imo is the most successful game that ever did this. And it didn't even have dialogue.

They are, which is what I was discussing just now.

Well, it was really odd to segway from animation to tropes. Felt more like you were saying that was the reason animation in japan is bad.

I recognise the emote but I've only seen it in Lost Planet 2 and this looks like different game

I remember sparkles appear towards the end of that animations if I'm correct. (At least in LP2)

As stupid as that emote was, I used it frequently during online play.

Haunted, I hope you realize that that gif only weakens your argument.
