If the problem is just that you don't get to pick where to put a file it looks like you'll need to go into the Advanced Preferences -> Downloads menu on Opera. There should be a Download Folder option where you can pick "Choose" which will let you pick where to put each file you download. So you should be able to pick your D drive while downloading.

I don't actually have Opera in front of me, so I gleaned this from here: http://help.opera.com/Linux/9.22/en/downloads.html

holy cow it's actually working, you're a godsend. There are a bunch of windows 7 updates I wasn't able to do on my C: Drive, do you know how to send them to my D: drive?

I tried to uninstall malwarebytes so I could redownload it to my d: drive. It won't let me uninstall, saying there isn't enough memory. I don't get it.

Is there a popular impression that Trader Joe's stuff tastes bland? I remember seeing a reference to that on Family Guy or American Dad, and I didn't understand it. All their stuff tastes great to me.

I'm pretty sure Trader Joe's stuff is just repackaged other stuff sold cheaper.

Maybe it was a joke about the people who shop at Trader Joe's.

the cover for the disk drive on my laptop snapped off and i lost it

is there any danger in not having that because the drive still opens and reads dvds and stuff fine

and can you get a replacement???

I live in China and thus use a VPN to access most sites. Currently I just pay a fee for a simple 'plug and play' VPN service which doesn't really require any setup to use. However in the past few weeks this service has become extremely unreliable to the point that I'm planning on switching once my subscription to the old VPN expires in March.

My question is: How would I go about setting up my own VPN server, rather than going through a company to do it for me? I understand that I would still need to rent a server through someone else, but I feel I may still be able to save a lot of time and hassle by doing much of the VPN stuff myself

Is the "close" button on elevator panels a hoax?

I take the elevator to my apartment, and repeatedly hit the button but nothing happens; The doors close after the regular duration of time has passed. The same for the elevators I take to work. In fact, I can't remember stepping into one elevator where the doors close any quicker after hitting the button.

Some elevators have a delay for the close button. It doesn't work at all the first two seconds after you select a floor. The doors will automatically close in 5 seconds. If you press the close button in the small window between 2 and 5 s then you might save a few precious seconds every day.

Maybe I'm just a misguided dreamer, but shouldn't they close the moment you hit the button or were they never intended to?

I don't know. It could be a safety feature or maybe an industry in-joke. I can't imagine it would be difficult to make the buttons more responsive.

The Close button does stuff when the elevator isn't in normal operation mode. If firefighters have it in their special manual operation mode I believe the open and close buttons are the only ways to manipulate the doors.

The first Starcraft 2 OT had that before the title http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=401650 because ZealousD had the section headers using that as well. I think it was supposed to emulate the way some stuff in the game looks like a command line interface. SC2-GAF just kind of ran with it for any new threads after that.

Yeah it was a style choice for the original SC2 OT. It was a mock command line interface. Although I wasn't referencing anything from the games in particular. I just wanted the OT to look like a sort of a sci-fi computer interface.

When someone asks you a question like "Do you know what today is?" is it "proper" to respond with "I've no clue." instead of "I have no clue."? I was having an argument with someone about this earlier.

Its less formal but perfectly acceptable IMO. 'I have' is more 'proper' but eh, I wouldn't really think about it unless I was talking to some one of a higher standing, such as a boss at work.

It sounds very odd to contract "have" when it is not used with a participle. If you said "I have got no clue", you could've contracted it to "I've got no clue", and in American English, it's common to drop the "have", too. "I got no idea". However, when you use have in a non-participle sense, by itself, importance is placed on the word "have".

It sounds very odd and leaves an anticipation of a particle. "I've been out", "I've seen it". But "I have it". If you allowed such a contraction, you'd also allow "I've it" to say "I have it". You don't contract simply because it is "have", but because it is used with another transitive verb that is more important. So it is grammatically incorrect to contract it to "I've no clue".

It's funny, because I always frowned upon those buttons. But, however, having visited Tokyo, you see the use of such buttons. They actively hold the elevator open, and actively close it. The button doesn't work right away, but it'll work sooner than the doors would normally close. It makes sense for the doors not to close right away, as if you have more people entering the elevator, the first should press the button and step away from the console, so others can press theirs. Then you can do that while people are still entering.

The Starving Games is now on Netflix. A Hunger Games parody, obviously. But the question: does it only contain the story of the first HG movie/book, or also the remaining parts? I'm still reading the third book, so I don't want to encounter any spoilers. That's also why I prefer asking it here instead of trying to google the plot.

I read an online summary, and
it sounds absolutely terrible
it only contains the story of the first book/movie.

So, there is an annual Japanese matsuri festival in my state that I go to, and last year I purchased what I suppose you could call "pre-made" kimono. I'm sure it's very simple to wear, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to put it on. I have searched the internet for help with pre-tied obis, and anything similar to the parts of my kimono. But, nothing that looks remotely like my own has come up. I really would love wearing this to the festival this year, and I want to make sure that I am doing it correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Below are pictures of the entire set (quoted for size):
Almost the entire set from an aerial view.

What I'm assuming is the obi.

Ends of the obi which attach to one another via Velcro.

Wearing the "obi" for reference. It's huge and I don't know if it's because it's meant to be tied somehow or just the Velcro ends attached. My current weight is 110 pounds and it's obviously a gargantuan obi on me if I'm just supposed to wear it with the Velcro ends attached.

I think this is the obiage?

Other side of the obiage(?).

+1 to elevator buttons saving you precious seconds.

Is there a font just like this, but without the handwritten style? Times New Roman looks kind of similar, but not really. Too thick and not enough fancy serif stuff (Me no good at fonts).

Edit: The above font is called 'Fredericka the Great'.
Edit Edit: I'm going with Didot for now. Seems pretty similar.

Can the viewing angle of a monitor degrade over time? I've just noticed my blues become purple if I'm looking down at the screen. It's so bad now that simply looking up and down without moving my head will let me see a gradient of color from the top to the bottom of my display. Pretty pissed off about this. How long have I been living this lie?

I have some leftover big ziploc bags from a project of mine, so I was thinking of using them to keep my unused consoles dust-free. My question is, do the big ziploc bags produce enough static to damage a console? Or am I better off just purchasing anti-static bags?

Best way to export lightweight, small size, high quality PDFs from Photoshop?

I must be doing something wrong. They're coming out at 5mb or higher for 8.5 x 11 pages and don't look any better than before.

Hello !

I'm going to apply for a job in Washington DC, and I have to send a salary requirements...

I know that life in DC is supposed to be expensive, so what figure (yearly) would be enough.

I've lived in Europe for most of my life, so no idea how much I should be asking for.

edit: NGO job.

There's a commercial on TV (US West Coast)

It is for a fast food joint that sells sandwiches (subs) but it's not Subway (something/franchise that is not available in Canada)

Anyway the premise of a commercial, over excited husband greets wife at the door with bouquet of red roses, presents and chocolate..."Happy Anniversary honey!"

they hug, wife in clearly clueless to the fact that it's their anniversary today! she has no gift for him, as they are hugging she reaches around and pulls out her smartphone and orders food from this sandwich place which happens to show up instantly... the wife says "look honey and I got you..."

husband turns around sees the box of food, is even more excited and happy.. the delivery boy just takes off...(wife has the "just dodged a bullet" look on her face)

Anyone know the commercial? trying to find it on You Tube

Is it legal to drive through those concrete drainage channels they have running through Los Angeles?

I've seen so many movies where characters go racing or chasing or even just taking a pleasure drive through them...just off the top of my head, there's Grease, Repo Man, and more recently Drive. I can't imagine that the general public is allowed to just cruise through there if they feel like it, yet in the movies there is never any mention of the fact that they're trespassing, or worry about getting caught by police, or even how they gain access to these areas.

The one exception was in Terminator 2, because I remember Arnold blasting a locked gate with his shotgun as he was chasing young John Connor, but that's it.

I'm assuming the "100" on Ethernet adapters means 100 Mbps supported. So if I'm assuming this correctly, as long as my internet isn't over 100 Mbps this is more than sufficient for my needs? I generally get 65-70 download Mbps on my connection.

Thank you.

Yes. Remember that for a switch, all LAN communication will also be restricted to 100mbps. If you have to computers and want to transfer something from one to the other via that switch, it will be with 100. If there'll be any connectivity between more devices on your LAN, like PS3 media server, consider a switch with gigabit.

Take the Big Mac meal:

1, Big Mac
2. Fries
3. Drink, say Coco Cola for argument's sake.

Which of these things is the most unhealthy?

What can I do about this?

It's the underside of my kitchen counter and bits always flake off onto whatever is beneath it. It's horrible :/

Also, it's in rented accommodation so I can't just buy a whole new counter. I want to fix the existing one.

Why are there basically no standalone entertainment center Blu Ray player/recorders on the market? I realize there are Blu ray writer drives for PC. But why not standlone blu ray player/recorders?
