You can backup your device to Apple's cloud from the Settings App and then redownload everything once you get a new SIM card.I was given an iphone 5 this xmas and apparently I need a new sim card, going from my old iphone 4s micro card to a nano card. But I need to know what to do with all my apps and especially photos and contacts before I take the plunge. I don't think I've ever uploaded anything to Apple's servers, whatever they're called :/
Great, thanksYou can backup your device to Apple's cloud from the Settings App and then redownload everything once you get a new SIM card.
What the heck is with all the goofy Robert Downey Jr. Tropic Thunder avatars? I am curious as to the origin of that. It's making it hard to tell posters apart.
In the original Die Hard, why did Hans Gruber and his fellow thieves take hostages and announce their presence and try to make the robbery look like a political situation? Seems to me they just could have got in, taken all the bonds, and then got the fuck out without nobody being the wiser.
But they did this whole unnecessary hostage situation as a distraction from their real crime, which was actually a lesser crime than the crime they pretended was their main motivation. Am I missing something?
Didn't they need the FBI to turn off the power in order to get in to the Vault where the bonds were? I thought the hostage situation was to play into the FBI rulebook on what to do in a hostage situation, which included turning off the power.
UK GAF: I'm watching Broadchurch - why do the detectives refer to ice cream cones as ninety-nines?
On a level that a non-tech person could understand, what simply makes touchscreens different or work?
Like why won't my DS stylus work on my iPad or Vita, but works ok on my DS, 3DS and Wii U? Is there something Nintendo have done to only make them work on their screens?
Similarly on my iPad only my skin works. A bandaged finger I have at the moment won't work. Is it recognizing me, or that I'm alive? Are Apple discriminating against zombies?

Is there any way to change my email on GAF from the ISP email I'm using to my gmail instead? I know you have to use a non-free email to register, but not sure if you're allowed to change it once you have an account.
This is gonna be a strange question, but here goes:
My parents had a mixtape on an old Memorex cassette when I was a kid, and there was a song on there I loved. Had tons of drums, and from what I remember the lyrics were mostly some guy going badababa or something like that. I think the gibberish changed from "verse" to verse though. It might have been actual words, but I really don't remember. The guy sounded like he was shouting the lyrics (though not screaming). I think the guitar part was mostly repeating "dun dun...dun dun...dun dun" alternating low and high notes.
I was born in 1984, so it had to have been something from the 80s. This has been driving me nuts forever - I wonder if this is all in my head.
that is super vague. could be any scat musician with a male vocalist. Is it possible to ask your parents? they hopefully remember their own mixtape and you listening to it all the time as a kid
I've asked, they don't really remember either. I don't know if I'd call it scat though. I want to say it was more "sing-y" than spoken.
And yeah, I'm aware it's ridiculously vague. I don't really have much more information - it was like 25 years ago.
I'll guess Mahna Mahna by the Muppets as it's the only thing I can think of.

I was wondering: what happens when a commercial is interrupted by another commercial? I've been seeing this more and more recently. Is it just someone behind the controls being dumb? Does the owner of the ad get a refund or credit to show the ad an additional time for free or something? SOMEONE TELL ME.
I would second this. I never saw it on local broadcasts when I just had an antenna on my house. But once I had cable I saw it all the time.It might be the national channel showing one ad and the local affiliate has that sport reserved for a local ad, so you see that quick overlap. I see it fairly often in Canada when watching channels from the US. I see the first clip of a commercial from the US feed and then a Canadian ad plays over it. Also at the start of shows on Fox or NBC, for example, I'll see the first couple seconds of the show from the US station and then I have to rewatch those seconds when it switches over to the Canadian feed.
what's the difference between the following sentences:
