It's a fucked up world we live in.

Suicide bombers have attacked two mosques in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, killing at least 126 people and wounding many others, reports say.

Worshippers were attending noon prayers at the Badr and al-Hashoosh mosques when at least three attackers struck.

The mosques are used mainly by supporters of the Zaidi Shia-led Houthi rebel movement, which controls Sanaa.

Islamic State (IS), which set up a branch in Yemen in November, said it was behind the attacks.

A statement from the group was published on Twitter accounts known as reliable sources for IS propaganda. If confirmed, the attacks would be the first carried out by IS in Yemen.

There are also severe tensions between the Houthi rebels and various powerful, armed elements in Yemen, including militants from al-Qaeda.

Blood 'running like river'
Witnesses said at least two suicide bombers attacked the Badr mosque, in the south of Sanaa.

One entered the building and detonated his explosive device among dozens of worshippers, the witnesses added. Survivors then sought to escape through the main gates, where the second bomber was waiting.

Yemen, what a shithole.

Some beautiful areas you'll never get to see because to many assholes hell bent on killing everyone train and reside there.

Pity.

Religion.

There were at least 128 religious people there. Roughly 126 of them were peaceful. Two were violent. But yeah, let's lump religious people in there with terrorists.

While you're at it, you should add "men," "middle easterners," "brown-skinned people," "humans," "bipeds," and "obligate aerobes" to your post.

Was planning on going to Yemen this summer to visit friends and family.

I'm not going now that we have Daesh fucking everything up there too.

Fuck Daesh.

RIP to the victims.

damn terrible.

126 lives extinguished for no reason other than idiocy and jackassery.

When the world is ready to face ISIS head on, none can be left....their children can't be left either....

It's probably why no country has actually gone head on....there can be no clean hands at the end.

When will it end?

The older I get, the more I believe the answer is never. Some people are so desperate to hurt the "other" that they'll stop at nothing, they'll teach the same hate to the next gen and the cycle will continue. And people will always find a way to justify themselves. If it's not religion, it's skin color. If it's not skin, it's where they live. etc.

They don't live in any of the hot beds of activity (most of them) and the ones that do, will just come here to America anyway.

Yemen is a beautiful place being soiled by bullshit. I am extremely angry that I may not go back to my homeland anytime soon :(

This is insane. I didn't know until now that there was such a large Shia population in Yemen. This is devastating, RIP.

The attacks on Shia are believed to be funded and encouraged by Saudi nationals, and very senior members of the house of Saud. Who are our friends. It's a disgusting hot mess.

I wonder how far the daesh will be allowed to spread their radical version of islam before the world REALLY wakes up and do something about it, right now I think the US thinks it's basically sunni violence against shia and minority Christians, with shia Iran basically trying to contain it in the middle east while nobody gives a shit about Africa. All the US thinks right now is "we don't want a second Iraq or Afghanistan", people are getting SLAUGHTERED. EVERYDAY.

Time to wake up, world.

I think the world is wide awake.

The issue is you are likely going to face radicalized children among other things.

Not to mention even if ISIS were eliminated, another group would likely end up rising since nobody is ready to bring the rain in countries that actually influence and fund groups like ISIS such as Saudia Arabia.

126 consciousnesses no longer perceiving the world around them.

It boggles the mind.

I just can't.

Keep in mind, this is in the backdrop of Houthi (mostly Shia) rebellion that toppled the sunni proto government two weeks ago. Al Qaida still has a big presence in the country and I'm willing to bet they are behind this.

Under the impression majority can't even differentiate between Sunnites, Shiites, and radical Islam, really.

What are you going to do? Let them continue to slaughter the innocent using children? Men, women and children, it didn't matter, they're radicalized murderers, you can't get squeamish or you'll lose the war against evil.

Just because when one evil is eliminated another evil will rise doesn't mean we should give up. We have to keep fighting. Lives will be lost, there will be wars but that's the price of freedom.

Freedom is earned with blood, peace is a facade.

Sadly Sunni suicide bombers blowing themselves up in Shia mosques or basically any place where Shia gathers have become pretty much a daily occurrence. It happens in Yemen, in Syria, in Afghanistan, in Pakistan and in Iraq with the last one receiving most of them since 2003. For example nowdays it's common that you have several bombings per week in Iraq and almost all of them are done in places where you have Shia. I bet liger and co. are proud.

how can ISIS travel from Iraq/Syria to Yemen when Saudi Arabia is in the way

hmmmm let me think about that hmmmmmm

ah! Saudi Arabia allows free movement for ISIS members to Yemen

why is the US still allied with the Saud again?

Because they can go around? Syria > Iraq > Iran > then through Oman to Yemen? Not impossible.

You're also talking about the same country who's allied with Israel despite Netanyahu's comments about Palestine during his campaign, but maybe one day they'll do what Sweden's recently done.

That's a grave and brave position that not many take.

Is this a Sunni and Shia conflict.

Everything with ISIS tends to be. The group preys on the fears of marginalized sunni's, often in countries where they are a majority but there are shias in power. (Syria, Yemen especially since the houthis (shia) 'took over'). A large portion of Iraq is sunni, yet they have shit representation in the goverment and were terrorized by shia militias, making the promise of security from ISIS all the more appealing.

The bombings were at mosques "used mainly by supporters of the zaidi shia-led houthi rebel movement", so that leads me to believe this was purely sectarian.

For perspective, the current conflict is reminiscent of the wars between the protestants and catholics 400 years ago. Seems like every religion must go through some conflict like this, islam is just late to the game.

Regardless of Suadi Arabia's relationship with isis, the idea that isis would have free passage through Iran is ludicrous.
