Never played this, been watching it very excited for this release!!! Hope it's as good as people say it is

Please play the first Suikoden. Nothing like it. Ending got me emotional when I first played this back in 1997.

Sadly, the series gets progressively worse after 2.

I kind of felt the same way. If Konami was going to do another Suikoden, they should just re-do Suikoden 1 and 2 from the ground up (like FF remake) I'm sure they wouldn't be capable of making a brand new story, world, etc.

These games have some of the best pacing of any RPG ever created. I'm usually someone who gets bored part way through an RPG, but these really hold your attention all the way through without ever feeling like you're just wasting time.

The stories are grounded, music is great, and the battle system is fun. Recruiting is meant to be the main hook for the series yet I see it as just a bonus on top of an already great game. The visuals aren't likely to blow your mind because we've had a recent renaissance for pixel art, but they hold up better than most games from the PS1 generation.

Really that good huh? Never had the chance to play these.

Personally my all time favorite JRPG. I loved it more than the 2nd game. I highly recommend the soundtrack. For a 1997 title it's quite special.

The soundtrack is to die for personally and the story can make you emotional at times. I played this when I was 14. I lost it at the end but more so because I couldn't believe it was over.

I am always hesitant on getting a remaster because they always mess something up. The Grandia remaster was bad.

I will wait for the reviews.

I'll stick with the originals, which I can play on my PS1. If I want to go better? Duckstation can make it looks really nice.
Just like the Lunar Collection, I'm good. I despise these redesigns and butchered localizations.

I have the originals as well, but still will get these. Could these be better? Sure, but hey, I have a ton of nostalgia for these titles and would rather get these vs most modern games.

If they keep changing original games for stupid reasons, I will not support. Simple as that. If they change Localization to convey what they truly mean? I am all for that.

About time, been waiting years. I guess I could go dust off my vita, psp or psp classic, but damn I want this on my switch. Can't wait

I'm thinking of double dipping. I played both of those games recently on emulation. I tried to play it on my Vita but my saves got deleted and both games ran super slow on it. I hope we get a Suikoden 6 in the future but I wonder if it will be a direct sequel to Suikoden 3 since that game had some cliffhangers in regard to the story. It's sad that the original creator died. I'm a huge fan of the franchise. Eiyuden Chronicles is great but I love Suikoden more

This is the best JRPG of all time imo, does what JRPGs does the best, plays to the subgenre strengths the most.
Still, not sure i will get this, the improvements don't seem worth the full price.

Almost there…. I'm hoping this sells well enough for Konami to consider giving the sand love to 3-4-5 and even tactics.

Probably asking too much but would also love for an official localization of the Suikogaiden games.

Never played the games, did they come out on PS1 originally because i was a Nintendo guy in the 90s and didn't play it. Maybe i'll catch up and play the games now.

Never played Suikoden but heard a lot of praise over the years. Waiting on impressions of how good the translation is and how the Switch version stacks up with PS5.

Reviews are out:

Reviews seem a little nitpicky. "Fast forwarding battles makes the music speed up too!" "The event scene viewer is locked behind a game completion!" "Autosaves only happen in rooms with save points!"

Okay so the game is bug free, looks great, and plays like how you remember. Sounds good to me.

I'll probably jump straight to 2, I remember the first one being very old at the time
I would definitely play 1 first, because you can import your save and pick up an extra character that was in 1(if you don't know already know whom it is, I won't spoil
It but he's a bit of a badass) plus if I'm not mistaken the things you named in 1 also carry over to 2.

Genso Suikoden was the first PS1 RPG that I imported. My friends dropped Beyond The Beyond like a hot rock as soon as it landed on my doorstep. 😂 It was mind blowing at the time and we never thought it was ever going to come stateside. It was never a pretty game graphically even when it was new-scaling effects in the battles were it for eye candy special effects. The battles were remarkable in their simplicity and flow where attacks came off between simultaneous characters, which had never been seen by any of us at the time. They also loaded really fast, which made us think the PS1 was a powerful machine! When the U.S. version finally came out, I got to experience the full story and it was like a second renaissance all over again. To me, it's the same kind of fun that Nocturne In The Moonlight (Symphony of The Night) has, only in JRPG format and it remains to this day for me.

The battle system was like a breath of fresh air for me. And I'm saying this after playing games like Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger and FFVI (III in the States). They're all good at what they set out to do, but when the music came on, Suikoden's battles just gave you an adrenaline rush.

I actually first started playing this game without a memory card (I was 14 with no job), until I eventually got one. It was brutal when I died.

But yeah I rented this game first at Blockbuster before finally finding it used at Electronic Boutique (EBgames back then). Hasn't left my collection since.

Mod Edit: The review thread is up, so let's use that as the main point for discussion: https://www.neogaf.com/threads/suikoden-i-ii-hd-remaster-reviews-thread.1681462/. Thanks!
