Following from this post, with old data:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=23018091&postcount=9306

Total posts from that complete list = 6950
Total number of posts at that time = 9306

Therefore, in that top list, those posters were responsible for 74.6% of all posts!
Damnit, a 100 post difference between the last person and me? I guess I am legitimately more mentally ill than a lot of people. Oh well more fun for me, come on giant solar flare of 2012 doom to wipe away this shame!

I'd just get back up there in 2013 though. No matter, I'll rebuild civilization into one that admires and reveres me this time around.

Just waiting for a colony drop.

I don't think anime is really that popular here, it's just that those who are interested in it tend to be a bit insane. For example, this thread has almost 9800 posts now, but here is the break down of the Top 10 posters:

Jexhius - 958
Dresden - 660
InfiniteNine - 600
firehawk12 -590
Lafiel - 428
Unknown Soldier - 353
mAcOdIn - 289
Geneijin - 264
luka - 260
Branduil - 254

Total - 4656

That's almost 50% of the entire thread being comprised of posts from just 10 people. It's not popularity, it's a mental illness. :p

Oh hey, I'm no longer in the top 10.

Hey now, I don't doubt I'm mentally ill to some degree, however, I would like to point out that the last 4, of which I'm ranked, of the top 10 were within 35 posts of each other, so it's not too crazy to think other posters in this thread might be right around that number as well and just not be in the top 10, there may be lot's more of mentally ill people if we were to widen the criteria to, oh, say the top 20.

Well since you insist, here're the top 30.

Jexhius - 960
Dresden - 661
InfiniteNine - 600
firehawk12 - 592
Lafiel - 430
Unknown Soldier - 354
mAcOdIn - 291
Geneijin - 264
luka - 260
Branduil - 254

Hitokage - 208
Nonoriri - 186
watervengeance - 182
Lain - 178
cosmicblizzard - 165
Halycon - 162
Pandaman - 157
JKTrix - 155
DrForester - 153
7Th - 152

trejo - 148
Salazar - 144
Vox-Pop - 135
Hellsing321 - 124
Brobzoid - 120
Mandoric - 120
jman2050 - 113
faridmon - 104
Blader5489 - 101
Joule - 83

As you can see clearly, the top 5 posters are the most insane, followed by the rest in the top 10. Then it starts to drop off sharply into the 100-200 mark for everyone in #11-29. Then from there it drops below 100.

Maybe I have too much faith in the integrity of everyone involved to believe that they'd stop milking the franchise, especially at the natural stopping point of the series.

To be honest, a lot of material in season 2 is already non-manga material and KyoAni has handled it perfectly well. I think they would actually do okay with a season 3 using all-new material since the manga is ending as well. If season 3 starred Azunyan, then it would be just perfect!

I think Salazar and I predicted that K-ON 3 (or, ahem, K-ON!!!) would be a super robot show, with Loran Nodoka leading a resistance against the MoonMoe-race. I don't think there's room for a minor side character like Azusa in such a setting.

Now you're just baiting me to go higher on the list! I wonder if I'd be perceived as more sane had I the same amount of posts but spread out among all of the OT? Nah, think I'd still at least be a geek then.

They can now do two K-on shows next season, one with Azunyan and the other with the original 4 girls, only to recombine them in season 4 with them all reuniting in college and realizing it just isn't the same without the original 5, then for seasons 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 each of the girls gets their own band as they all work different jobs but for season 10 Mugi pulls some strings and they all get jobs together and re-unite to play at Budokan thus finally ending the show.

I'm hoping by that time, they'd be too busy making FMP: The Final Season...

Total number of posts at that point - 9803

Contribution of Top 30 to total posts = 77.1%

My individual contribution = 3.61% of all posts

You're right, because Azunyan would be in the main K-ON!!! series while the super-robot Nodoka series would be a spinoff series featuring characters from Code Geass. The main series would be the popular one, of course.

Time is relative! If you were flying at the speed of light, then it'd only take a few minutes!
(Sadly, I've forgotten how to actually calculate this. :( )

What's crazy is me being #11 despite missing the first 70 pages of this thread. :/

Anyway, rediscovered the files for a handful of Name That Anime Tune threads I made in 2004 and 2007. Some of them are pretty poorly sampled, and there's a few I don't even remember, but it's kinda neat going through them again.

For the curious: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

I don't believe that mumbo jumbo for a second, I believe one's perception of time may very well be relative but that time, the actual time, itself is not.

Edit: Plus you said "Earth year," which is a defined amount of time, not a year in Alpha Centauri or a year in a black hole or even "year" which would have left it open for interpretation.

The topic comes up periodically in the BD anime thread as well, largely due to Funimation's independent BD releases of titles not on BD in Japan.

I'm probably going to post a lot more in the Fall thread if BONES and Gainax don't end up disappointing.

If there's one thing I've learned about BONES, it's NEVER EVER watch a BONES show while it's airing. It might be worth it, it might not. Always wait for other people to suffer through weekly airings first and then if it's any good, watch it after the fact.

Dresden said:

I thought Yui was supposed to be dead but reappear as a ghost or something. Sorry, that was like 15 pages ago now, I don't even remember. As a ghost, they could use her as a cross-over character between the real main K-ON!!! series starring Azunyan and the spinoff series feature giant-robots, Nodoka, and Code Geass characters.

Hah, well, if you aren't a "GOTTA HAVE IT NOW" person, waiting a year or so could save you some major bucks.

Well, if you want to argue semantics, a "year" doesn't exist as a true unit of time anyway. :lol

Also, this Dark Gundam thingamaboop sounds a bit overpowered.

You would have hated yourself if you had watched Xam'd while it aired. Technically, not while it aired, I watched it when they were releasing it on Playstation Network. I got to episode 12 or 13 or something and dropped it like a dead rotting fish.

Still not what I'm trying to get at, because a clock designed by humans, digital or analog(as I think there are some places on earth where clocks can run at different speeds) works differently in different levels of gravity or speed, I don't think that means that "time" itself runs faster or slower.

Einstein didn't even believe in the Big Bang, and it's not that I care if he believed it or not but why he didn't believe it, I'm going with my gut on this one!

Edit: I think it's relative, but not. Obviously, if something runs faster or slower then it is technically different, but an Earth year will be an Earth year, like, much like we adjust our satellites now, if we tell an alien "Earth year" I'm pretty sure we'll have some kind of conversion process, time's not going to be so fucking messy that no-one knows what time it is anywhere and is just bumbling around the galaxy looking for shit that hasn't shown up yet.

I distinctively remember watching Tatami, and I think I finished House of Five Leaves.

And, I don't know, did K-ON!! start? I probably watched a few episodes of some harem show too. :lol

I dunno, wherever it was that I dropped it, it's because it bored me to tears. I might have dropped it later on, like episode 15 or 16. I know I finished the series at least to episode 12, anything further than that I might have blocked out because the memories were so horrible.

I ask myself that every day. My ex roommate had one, a wrist watch and a cell phone and still never knew what fucking time it was, he was either a Time Lord or hated time so much that he wanted to keep it as close to him as possible, it being his enemy and all.

The chronon is the closest human beings have gotten to defining a fundamental unit of time that is not bound by frame of reference. So you can hold onto that if you want. :lol

They can observe how long it takes for the Earth to transit the sun, but it probably won't appear to take the exact amount of time as we observe it.

An Earth-year, if you regard one Earth-year as time needed by the Earth to make one orbit around the Sun and return to it's starting position for measurement, gets longer every cycle because the Earth's orbit has been continuously slowing down since it was formed. In fact at some point the Earth would have slowed to the point that it's momentum could no longer sustain it's orbit and it would have fallen into the Sun in 12 billion years. However, the Sun is scheduled to go nova in about 4 billion years and consume the Earth anyways, so that is largely moot.

edit: I kind of want to play the Another Century's Episode series of games now. Apparently they feature mecha from a variety of TV series and you can fly them and fight other mecha from those series. Or something. It also has it's own continuing story.

Hitokage said:
The sun isn't going nova. It'll just grow to a red giant then shed most of its mass into a planetary nebula.

That's what going nova is. You're thinking of a supernova, and no, the Sun isn't going to explode. It is going to get large enough to consume the Earth, though.

Ah, I see. I was using the term nova incorrectly.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_sun#Life_cycle

It looks like Earth will not be habitable in a billion years regardless whether it's swallowed up by the Sun in 4 billion years or not.
